User story mapping was invented by Jeff Patton, who first described - but didn’t name it - in his 2005 article ‘It’s All in How You Slice it’.

Patton continued developing the idea. In 2008 he described an illustrated the idea in detail in an article on his blog: ‘The New User Story Backlog is a Map’.

🎒 A while back, I asked Project Managers in a couple of forums what material things you need to have, to do your job as a Project Manager. They responded magnificently. I compiled their answers into a Kit list.

Story Maps are a great way to understand a large development project and how all the different requirements (user stories) fit together,.

The story map makes an excellent artefact in our predictive and agile developments. Our ability to plan and visualise our efforts and products is its strength. It is a great tool for both product and project management. A 5-star job you've made of it here.

I was getting so confused with all these terms but this video has clarified it for me and it is really similar to WBS that is flexible and on steroids - love it. Would be helpful to see how you move the items from the User Story Map to the Project Backlog and Sprint Backlog with real examples.

      Thank you.
My challenge with real examples is finding something that will resonate for everyone.

Thank You for your video! Do you also have a video about a real world example to better understand the theory in this video? Best!

      You're welcome.
No, this is the style of videos I make: explaining key concepts as clearly as I can. I no longer have direct access to real-world projects.

That's really interesting, thank you. I wasn't aware of this use-case, but as a trainer, I can immediately see how it can be hugely beneficial.

Examples would be great to see. Also somehow i can not see the link to the original article of 2005? Thank you for great content.

Thank you - I tend to not put detailed examples into my videos, but I'll consider it for the future. I did omit the article links in the description, so thank you for letting me know. They are there now. 😀

@@Onlinepmcourses i believe the difficulty is in terminology. There can be several definitions for many terms depending on industry or personal experience, so at the first glance explanation can feel vague. I guess it comes with practice.
