Tom Mboya (1930-1969) was never part of Mau Mau. But he was a prominent Kenyan political leader and trade unionist. Using his position, he played a significant role in the struggle for independence in Kenya and is known for his efforts to promote social justice, equality, and economic development in the country. Unfortunately, after independence, he was tragically, assassinated on July 5, 1969, in Nairobi. His assassination shocked the nation. Tom Mboya legacy lives. Mostly remembered for his contributions towards independence and in independence Kenya contributions to social-economic development. One area, he secured scholarships for most students in the USA through Kennedy Airlift. Notable students are, the Nobel prize winner late Prof Wangari Maathai, Kenya former Vice president late Prof George Saitoti, Ugandan Prof. Mahmoud Mamdani to name but a few.
You forgot he airlifted Barack Obamas father...changed history as a result. Tom Mboyas economic model may be one reason Kenya is ahead economically compared to the rest of the EAC. When other countries around us were experimenting on communism and socialism under Obote and Nyerere, we were solidly capitalist due to the policies he helped formulate.
@@likatalikata3823, true, but Barack Obama Snr was not a direct beneficiary of the airlift, rather he benefited from those who were airlifted. So, he was an indirect benefactor.
