I spent the beginning of 2018 shadowing the legendary Fred Whitfield. I was literally just a small town kid who only wore converse, and had no idea what I was in for. I partnered with Amber Butaud and Casey Butaud to produce this brief teaser of Fred's story and goal for the year. I skipped a few grad classes, grabbed my duffle bag, and jumped in the RV for the full on experience. We traveled from Dallas TX to Myakka Florida roping from city to city. I can honestly say that I gained a great respect for the grind and sacrifices of a cowboy. We often rose at 5 and 4am to ready the hoarses and RV for the next rodeo. I'd dive out of my bunk, dazed and confused, grab my camera, and rush to the stables. Simply seeing their preperation, drive, and commitment made me passionate about this story. I had the time of my life. Everyone at every rodeo knew I wasn't a cowboy and I stood out in my nike hoodies, khaki cargos, and chucks, but I assure you that they also knew that me and my red chucks were determined and going to get access to wherever I needed to be in the arena to capture Fred's runs. If anyone tried to stop me I'd just say, "I'm Chris Winfield, and I'm shooting for Fred Whitfield," and they'd kindly move to the side.

The first 3 times that I went to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Fred won the nights round. They were years apart!

Whitfield has a great history in rodeo and is one for all to emulate. Apparently he did not qualify for the NFR in 2018 since I only saw Cory Soloman competing. Get ready for 2019 Fred! God Bless!
