I completely agree with your points about facets. The easiest example is visage who literally had a downgrade as a facet, but it makes it so that you don’t have to micro the birds. The same idea as lycan as well. Faceless voids alternate ability is the same idea, it’s just a worse ability, but it allows you the ability to create an ult that definitely can’t grief your team. Some facets are made to just make the game easier so that you can have more casual builds while also keeping many heroes competitively viable
Facets also allow icefrog to balance characters with more knobs to turn. For instance, some facets are better on carry than support and visa versa. If the hero is ok in one role but garbage in another, they could buff just that facet, keeping the hero from becoming overpowered in the other role. Think possibly naga, marci, gyro, bounty, etc.
Actually as a Visage main I'm slightly salty that he basically got kept as he was with extra steps, while a bunch of other heroes got interesting or useful benefits from this patch.
I don't think the visage face it makes visage easier
it just makes it worse
selecting all units basically just does the same thing
@@BruhMeme85 but now you don’t even have to select the units. I’m not saying this facet is good, but it does show the direction valve is trying to take
Bane's therapist: "9 slot techies can't hurt you, he doesn't exist"
9 Slot techies:
This patch is yelling. Let's do another wigal30
As a Grandmaster Techies with over 1000 techies games, I agree with your point about the hero. For me Techies was the most fun when I was playing it, yet most hated when I was playing against it or had even in my team. The most games I abandoned was because of Techies being picked. While playing it, it wasn't about win or lose anymore. It was about bringing hell to the other 9. Even though I knew we were losing, I would make game 50minutes longer and the best feeling was getting "ez techies" even after losses. When I was playing against it, it wasn't about winning game. It was about ruining the Techies' game just because I hated the hero.
I believe that Techies was the frontline of being trash talked and being most hated. Big franchises need someone to take all the hate and yet stand still while the corporation is moving forward. With techies being reworked, all that fun, unique gameplay, different hindsight, and most importantly, the public enemy is gone. WHile the game is more balanced, the hate of community is flowing to multiple things, and this insatiable hunger of needs for changes never stops, and since there is no frontline for this hate, I believe they cannot channel it to something specific for their blames.
Dota needs something that gives fun to a small minority, even if it brings hate from majority. That is why we need Tinker, huskar, broodmother and meepo to be in the game. maybe one day, old techies as well
I somewhat agree
Screw tinker though the only salvation for that guy is removal
Will you do a Wigal on this patch? i feel like there are a lot of interesting heroes this patch
I agree with everything you say, and the importance of casual gameplay. But just not about old techies, not necessarily about the casual nature of having techies in the game, but rather about techies in particular being good/fun for the game/players.
Back when I was a casual player with a shred, the absolute bare minimum of self respect (that is to say, not a techies picker), there was NOTHING less fun than playing with or against a techies. Playing against it robbed all of the joy. Any fight won means a new anxiety ridden journey down a lane while making sure someone brought sentries, and the poor guy just gets blown up trying to place it down. And then you stop wanting to go highground. And then the enemy carry gets farmed because you can't turn your momentum into ANYTHING. And now we play for 75 minutes until we either get tired, or maybe we sacrifice three people to painstakingly take buildings one by one.
And playing with techies robbed of the joy of dota, the push and pull of the game, the feeling of maybe outplaying or getting outplayed. Any fight we lose just amounts to nothing, because they can't push. So if you're losing fights just go farm haha it's not like they can push, and if you're winning, hey just win.
I hated old techies. No one had fun except the person playing it.
Facets look like Valve looked at Risk of Rain and thought "that's fire, do the same thing and make it silly"
Really hyped to see new patch content, thanks as always, Boomi!
My soul hurt when i saw the butterfly. Nothing will beat baumi's love for butterfly, and "mkb for attack speed"
There is one thing you are missing about spoon's stash is that you can keep neutral items in backpack. That means you can use 4 neutral items. Which are technically free and a big buff for a support techies. I have played with all cast range items for neutral items till T4. You can blast anyone from another screen. It's kinda op cause you can use neutral items there too.
Support techies with the extra 3 slot feels so good, we got a slot for smoke, dust and wards and better yet, we dont need to swap the damn things to the inventory to use it... so regular inventory for usual items and backpack slot exclusively for those 3 items..
When you’re farming with a maelstrom you should only hit the creep with the most HP because the maelstrom procs will chip away at the smaller creeps and you’ll farm faster. I’m sure you already know this but it was something I noticed a lot during this game that definitely slowed down your farm and leveling
Now I am waiting for Baumi to do a legends of dota Squee's scope build and snipe people From half way across the map with unleash +fury swipes.
Seems like Techies his backpack items still only tick half as fast. It takes ages for Linken's to refresh it's cooldown.
I don't think the backpack linken's even works. At 27:40 it triggers on Finger of Death, but Baumi still takes damage and gets the debuff.
I already want a dota 2 classic
I left a like on the video, and this neo-looking Baumi from the future -- he, like, died instantly.
Holy shit, I killed Baumi in a parallel universe, FRICK YEAH
2:20 I'm gonna, actually half way through it. fun af :)
Imagine Valve introduce hotkeys for backpack on next patch 😂
Old techies was just annoying. To just explode at once with thousand mines in the highground is nothing interesting or silly. Nobody had fun with old techies in the game. I prefer this new one way more. But I do get your point. Dota has always been too competetive. I do enjoy some turbo some time because of it being so much more casual.
"nobody had fun" the 10k hours techies player:
@@jaderreis7938 I mean the 9 other people.
Me and my friends play turbo for casual never rank but still having fun
You can have multiple neutral items for Techies
I appreciate what you’re trying to say but I disagree - a new player will be so confused by the hero split. Your assumption is based on a ‘relatively’ new player who understands old dota 2 - it would make it easier for them because it will shorten old dota skills. For a new player though having to play against effectively two different hero’s with the split (e.g venge) will make it incredibly harder to learn.
Kind of disagree it would kind of boost the new players learning curve of the game by having 2 paths(or more) to just stay by and formulate their play style with the facet the pick like venge for example whether magic missile spammer or become a hitter venge, also like DK whether they just want a farming playstyle fire drake, poison drake, and frost drake with that in mind they can just learn the higher form skills (like itemization etc.) and for a moment they can just play around their facet
@@dpottery1 I see what you're saying, but I have to agree with the comment you're replying to. As someone who tried to get multiple friends into dota, by far one of biggest hurdles they talked about was learning what all the heroes do so you can properly play against them (or with them for your team). The new patch makes this more difficult because not only do you have learn what all the abilities do, but you also have to learn how the facets work and how that changes the playstyle of the hero. This is especially true for heroes that change their abilities through facets (eg. faceless void with the new time zone ult instead of chrono)
idk, that line of thinking assumes that you need to know both facets of the hero to play them, which isn't true. facets are exclusionary, you can only play with one at a time. this means it's fine to just learn venge A, and leave venge B for later. but before this split, you'd have to learn both, because both were always part of the hero.
hes not talking about it being beginner friendly,, hes saying it simplify heroes and allows them to be played casually as opposed to overly competitive heroes being focused purely on meta, before you would have to know about literally everything about the hero but now its just divided up for you to choose according to what you want to play.
tl:dr its just more fun to play
@@Baumiokay, so for beginners, yeah, i think the split makes learning how to play a specific hero easier by focusing on one facet, but there are also a lot of players, both old and new, that'll see that there's basically 2 ways to play a hero, and it'll feel overwhelming or daunting. I don't think it's just about the feel of the hero, it has to do with the feel of the game overall.
And needing to play only one facet, for example Venge, yes it's simpler if you only need to play her, but you might also need to learn what your opponents have. Yeah there are tooltips in game that make this easier, but doesn't change the fact that you have to more or less know how your opponent is gonna play based on their facet.
I still love the new patch tho, there were some hilarious additions, while some changes were terrible.
RIP Silencer.
Imagine having 9 slots of inventory and still lacking on dust. SMH
what a fun facet
2:12 wdym? i already watched 5 hours
Will you Dota 2 but all facets
Some facets change abilities so it doesn't work
techies time
I miss wigal
couldn't you just play turbo then??
Ranged tech is better gg
