Thank you for making this amazingly gorgeous piece, it's easy to forget just how amazing PlanetSide 2 looks (and can be.) It's this sort of video that I'd love to see as an advertisement to come play PlanetSide 2; SOE should commission you to make one in an ad-style format that they can use. Again, great work, great music, so many feels.
I've seen things you non gamers wouldn't believe, Attack ships on fire in the atmosphere of Auraxis, I've watched projectile beams glitter in the darkness near the amp station gates, All those moments will be lost in time like ghost caps, on Hossin. The glory days of this games are likely in the past, what hasn't peaked is my melancholy and nostalgia. Strength through unity, Liberty or Death, I require more batteries.
Leftovers and nuggets of diamond originally intended for the celestial firmament? You really put together some of the most beautiful shots the game has to offer. In fact this may be the best one yet in terms capturing the of sheer beauty! Haha! I'm amazed how every time I time I think "Wow, this video the best one ever! It captures everything about Planetside 2" yet you come with impossible new ways to make me admire the game.
This just shows how beautiful this game is, SOE should show more than just a brief of it in command center 20 PlanetSide 2: Command Center - Episode 20 the whole ps2 community should see this!
hey! I really appreciate you telling me that! thank you! :) that's really great to hear and I'm honoured. sorry for the late answer, I've been away a lot the last month. anyway, thanks again for the great feedback!
Wow! Great piece of work, In all terms: aesthetics, music and image synchronization, editing... I can see a lot of effort was put in. You definitely deserve a new subscriber and more recognition in general :)
It looks amazingly beautiful! Nice choice of music and really cool editing. Great video. The level of detail @2:13 of the cloaking infiltrator is just...never saw it like that (watch this video in original) Anyway, thanks for this!
A feast for the eyes and it was just delish! Props. This could possibly be even better if it had a couple of infantry battles(without vehicles/aircrafts).Maybe next film!
thanks! yeah, I know that this video lack big infantry battles. it's harder to capture those and make it look good. check out my other video 'the dead flag blues'. there is -some- infantry battles there. maybe not what you seek, but anyways!
it sure is a beautiful game. since it has such a diversity of landscapes and exceptional lighting during the shifts of the day/night cycles on the different continents it makes it so much easier to create great looking shots, so to speak.
Hey lillbabs. Amazing video as always. I'm always a huge fan of what you do (I have a serious soft spot for fan trailers/videos like this and really want to make my own one day) This video makes me want to play Planetside 2 more than anything in the world whenever I watch it. It's definitely your best, taking Dead Flag Blues from the top spot :) absolutely amazing! I have to know though, how do you get these ridiculously awesome camera angles? People aren't shooting at you even in these crazy large battles, so I'm very curious.
thanks for liking my videos. I've had the privilege to have access to the observer cam. it's something the ps2 devs only let's some people use for some time. a third of this video is footage from me just filming without the hud.
lillbabs Ah, I had a feeling that's what it was. I guess I will have to get a little creative. Thanks for the quick reply and keep up the awesome videos!
lillbabs You're right (of course you are), should've been obvious from the footage. Btw: What software are you recording with? In-game stuff or some third-party thing? And with what are you editing and finally exporting? I have some HD footage in AVI format which looks quite good but whenever I try to export to some more space-saving format (or just trying to cut the AVI into smaller AVI movies) I get really bad compression artifacts, especially in night shots with lots of black.
Matthias Wehrlein well, maybe 25% of the footage in this video is not observer cam footage, but most of it is though. I use dxtory with lagarith lossless codec to record my footage and I use sony vegas 12 for my editing. there are a lot of guides out there on how to setup dxtory with lagarith if you're interested. I tend to change the details on how I render/export the videos, but I try to have maximum quality to get the best result on youtube which makes the video sizes quite large. this video was 2+ gig after rendering it. my experience with trying to cut and re-encode clips to make them smaller is really bad and I also got artefacts, grainy video and such when I did some testing. if you just want to save certain parts of your clips on you hdd I suggest you cut and render the stuff you want to save in a program like sony vegas or after effects and render if with some of the default rendering settings in sony vegas, for example mainconcept AVC/AAC 1080hd which I use atm but with some modifications to make it look better on youtube since YT re-encodes it once again with their own codec. I'm not sure if the filesize will be as small as you want it though. if you want to upload it to youtube it might be a different story. and it also might differ depending on the codecs/format your recording software use. I know this might be a bit fuzzy to read if you're not experienced with this. I don't know how much you have fiddled with stuff like this, but I hope it can be of some help :)
Beautiful. How long did it take to get the shots and edit? The cuts were great and the speed-ramping made the music work perfectly. As always, good job.
thanks! it really is shots taken from the whole time I've been recording, so it's hard to say how long time it took to get the footage :) the editing took some time. I'm not sure how many hours. what was most time consuming this time was to go through all the material and find what I wanted to use.
It was quite nice. I wonder if you plan to do something more contemplative/melancholic ? I did not watch all your video so you may already have done that ! :)
Hey, just wondering. Do you "feel" different about the song since you made this video? I've made a few videos on music (with a lot of syncing) and it changes how I perceive the songs. Is it me or do you have something similar?
one thing is certain, that I will probably always think of planetside 2 when I hear this song. I will also think of the great reception it got from the community which I really didn't expect. and for some reason I never seem to get tired of this song even though I've listened to it so many times, especially during the editing of the video. if I may talk about other videos; my first video of this kind that I made was with a favourite deadmau5 song of mine. the video was taken down after some stupid misunderstanding from my part. but since it was my first video that I did I always get a bit sentimental (in a good way, mostly) when I hear that song nowadays. but I loved it before and I guess it just gained something more in regard of what I feel about the song. I believe that all the songs I've used when making these kind of videos will in some way will fill me up with nostalgia in a certain way. I don't really know how to express it better. anyhow, that's what I believe and in a way I am experiencing that nostalgic connection already. might sound silly ;) how would you say your experience is/was?
I've had very similar experiences. I only use songs I really really like because I know I will have to listen to it hundreds of times for hours on end. Whenever I hear them it reminds me of the video and I can vividly remember what happens at what time purely based on the song. It adds to it, but it kind of also takes something away: I can never just listen to that song again without making that connection and just appreciate it on its own. I guess it feels a bit like I "spoiled" it. But the nostalgia makes it all worth it. 2 exceptions: It's possible that I just get tired of the song while editing. I used to let friends decide what music I used for some pieces so songs I just liked but didn't really love often leave a bad taste shortly afterwards. In the other case I edited the song before I used it. Cutting out some parts, switching the order for others... Hearing the original trips is pretty confusing afterwards. Overall it's pretty positive though :)
lillbabs I totally agree and feel the same way. the song(s) will always be attached to the video/game/time and state of mind at the moment. the last thing I just mentioned I can't be too sure about since I've only done this for less than a year. anyway, it's a double-edged sword in that matter and as you say, it's good and bad but in the end it feels like it's positive. regarding getting tired of the music while editing is something I didn't mentioned before because it felt like I already wrote too much :P but, that's also something I've been experiencing. when that happens I just need some time away from the song/video and after a while it's all good. the nostalgia will fix it :) I have also edited the songs I use because of different reasons. several times. I don't really like doing it since it's usually music you know by heart, and it sounds strange when edited. and maybe I'm not always doing a great job editing it. I mean, I'm not an experienced music producer :) still haven't gotten any complains about it though :P checked out your channel. did a search a watched a portal video. I really liked it (I really should give the national another try it seems. thank you)! it's been a while since you uploaded something. why is that? lack of time? the time issue will probably be my "end" ;)
thank you! :) half of this video is made by shots using the dev camera, actually. I've had the privilege to use it. that's how some of the vertical and fast horizontal pans are done. though some shots from the air is fully possible to do in gal passenger seats, lib gunner seats and in scythes with 2x primary gun zoom which also gives you the possibility to tilt the pov left/right which is not possible with the dev cam. example: youtube com/watch?v=C7gyCGwRPMQ&t=1m21s
Wow, they made such a huge deal about it never getting into hands of the public, even Zoran was shot down if I remember right. Thanks for the reply, may I suggest a tutorial video on how to do the non-dev shots? :) Im pretty sure I know how they work, but I'm sure everybody would appreciate :)
Dubst3pGam3r they don't want to just hand it out to anyone, that is certain and not strange. but they seem to give temporary access in certain cases when SOE and the community gains from it. and regarding zoran, I think he has access. his latest preview trailer for his machinima series it sure looks like he's using the dev cam. can't see how he has the time to make those videos as good otherwise. and he is one example where they bend the rules, since he's making quality content and has proven that he's really good at it. well, that's at least what I think. I could be wrong. I was "shot down" as well, but I helped pro7 out with some stuff, got backed up by people with some influence and they like what I do so they've given me some more time. I don't know how long that will last though :) I've actually been thinking about making a tutorial video for that. but I'm not too fond of speaking in videos and I'm also not experienced in making videos showing how to do stuff in an intuitive way. so I'm not sure if I will do that. I do try to give people some insights on how to do some things if they ask me. but who knows, I might make such a video someday :)
***** I sharpen the clips before I render. in some clips a add some contrast. I actually use a modified version of the internet-hd 1080p template, but I amp up the bitrate a whole lot (to like 50-60k). I also do some upscaling, but that won't make a the 1080p quality better though. I do believe that the codec and quality that you used when recording can sometimes make render settings work kind of wonky. I don't believe all kinds of footage would work well with my render settings. but I use lagarith lossless codec with dxtory when I record and I think it works quite well :)
lillbabs thx for your help and information. i use nvidia shadowplay for recording with 1080p and 50k bitrate. hmm i will look to modify my internet-hd filtersetings, if it is posible
You get that perspective shift, by walking backwards and zooming in. Its a method you can use both on a normal camera and in games. You can also start zoomed in, walk forward, and dezoom.
Thank you for making this amazingly gorgeous piece, it's easy to forget just how amazing PlanetSide 2 looks (and can be.) Since you working on this game - you can do it. Use this videos. They sell game again even to existing planetmans
I've seen things you non gamers wouldn't believe,
Attack ships on fire in the atmosphere of Auraxis,
I've watched projectile beams glitter in the darkness near the amp station gates,
All those moments will be lost in time like ghost caps, on Hossin.

It's too bad we won't live. But then again, who does?

goose bumps... ps2 is in my personal top 5 all-time-fps... and if i wasn't a fan already, i'd be after this video.

This just shows how beautiful this game is, SOE should show more than just a brief of it in command center 20 PlanetSide 2: Command Center - Episode 20
the whole ps2 community should see this!
Im watching this video at least 4-5 times a month.. It is just an awesome experience in footage and music. Love it. Thank you +lillbabs

Editing must have been an adventure! Oh and the lonely red flare on esamir, that's some true love right there!
Wow! Great piece of work, In all terms: aesthetics, music and image synchronization, editing... I can see a lot of effort was put in. You definitely deserve a new subscriber and more recognition in general :)
Just beautiful. Another masterful work of art.
Amazing song to go with an incredible video.
No soldiers were harmed in the making of this video Heh heh. Congratulations on making another amazing video!

Anyway, thanks for this!

That was beautiful, perfect for an ad
thanks, man!
They should just advertise Planet Side 2 with these videos.
A feast for the eyes and it was just delish! Props. This could possibly be even better if it had a couple of infantry battles(without vehicles/aircrafts).Maybe next film!

Awesome video man, really nice job!
This is where we see that planetside 2 is beautiful. Keep it up ;)
it sure is a beautiful game. since it has such a diversity of landscapes and exceptional lighting during the shifts of the day/night cycles on the different continents it makes it so much easier to create great looking shots, so to speak.
This is god damn art! Good job dude!
Excellent work on this! You keep making the best videos using in-game footage lb, thanks :)
Wow! Lovely shots! :D I actually deleted all my leftovers a few days ago. Only had like 25GB storage space left. :/
Stunning.
SOE should really consider making this a running ad for them.
Another work of brilliance! Splendid, the video.
Awesome work as usual! Love it!
This is still my favorite.

1:45 A secret mating ritual has occurred
I've been thinking the exact same thing :)
AMAZING!!!!!
thanks! :)
Great video editing.
And people ask us why we love planetside?
Beautiful. How long did it take to get the shots and edit?
The cuts were great and the speed-ramping made the music work perfectly.
As always, good job.

very cool vid wow
Very well done m8, now if I can convince you to do one for the VS only :)
well, I have done some trident (VS) videos. so for now I think it's only fair I do some TR and NC videos
nice
amazing video! congratulations!! ;)

Very nice Video love that so much :D

neat i liked the particles and bits of vehicles mabe you could add more battles in your vids add inside battles
Who noticed the infiltrator in 1:42 :P
that PhysX though...makes me want to switch to Nvidia
It was quite nice. I wonder if you plan to do something more contemplative/melancholic ? I did not watch all your video so you may already have done that ! :)

this shit is so good that i get high on it
Great and amazing video! How did you get all those panning shots and vertical panning shots if they wont let the public use spectator camera?
The fact that the top 5 comments are from people I'm subscribed to, tells me your work has a HUGE impact! Amazing.

RIP GPU particles
well, I have a lot of "old" footage that I will probably use, that has some physx in it ^^
Good Video.
Come Back to see it from Time to Time.
Would Desverve to have more views..
wow, see it first time, what a great job. can you pls tell me what software y use to record and render?
thanks! I used dxtory to record. sony vegas to edit and render for this video.
lillbabs
thx, what filter / rendere do you use in sony vegas? i tryed "internet-HD 1080p" but get bad quality
***** I sharpen the clips before I render. in some clips a add some contrast. lillbabs
thx for your help and information. i use nvidia shadowplay for recording with 1080p and 50k bitrate. hmm i will look to modify my internet-hd filtersetings, if it is posible
It's funny, my laptop can't even play a decent quality vid of PS2, let alone the game
That fov thingey at around 1:27. How??!?!!?
You get that perspective shift, by walking backwards and zooming in. Its a method you can use both on a normal camera and in games. You can also start zoomed in, walk forward, and dezoom.
Could you do a vid for War Thunder?
Bonjour Mr Tarik B.
Where do you find you music?
Your**
