I think that Dashel leaving and Larry arriving was a foreshadowing of what is to come in the next episode - Marian is going to realize that she doesn't want to marry Dashel. She likes him, but doesn't love him. Marian may also start to realize that he manipulated her - caught her off-guard to get a yes and to lock down a quick marriage. That said, I think she will realize that she wants more than just being a step-mother to his motherless daughter as was as being put in a role of a non-working woman who just attends society meetings, etc . . . Larry, on the other hand, supported and acknowledged that it was the wife of engineer Roebling who actually completed the bridge. Marian and Larry will get romantically involved, and I really like their chemistry.

Marian & Larry have had a spark from the first moment Larry saved Pumpkin. Truly hope they end up together, but it's all progressing so slowly - I'm impatient for the love story!
I agree she deserves more . Marion hopefully will find true love and I hope it is Larry. He is a good guy.
Great episode tonight! Oscar is distraught. Wonderful actor playing that part. These actors are all amazing. Can’t wait till next week. Wished there was way more episodes. 👏🏻

Omg tonight episode was 🔥😭 and sad too . Poor oscar got duped and lost the family fortune 💔 I feel bad for him but I am looking forward to finding out how this Ms . Beaton pulled off the heist of the century !
I would assume they own their home on the most coveted street in Manhattan so they could sell it and still live comfortably in 1880’s America. It’s not like Oscar will have to go to 53rd & 3rd to survive but the fact that someone got me like that and it was all completely legal with no recourse would drive me insane.
Oscar and his mother are in the same box with Mrs. Astor and Mr. McAllister at the Academy- many would dream of marrying their daughter to him, so all isn’t lost.
@@moester75 But the honor of the family, the reputation in this case is under threat... Yes, they aren’t in danger of starvation, like the same Anne Morris. who had children and after selling the house, something could remain for life as in the middle class.
Oscar is young, unmarried, without children, in the same box with Mrs. Astor - even ruined, he is an ideal match. Men from high society usually improved their position by marrying. It's a common thing in such a situation.
I’m interested to see how they announced the fortune Ada will be coming into & will save the day. I’m anxious to see the shift in family dynamics of how she’ll be weather - fortune loss or not than Agnes.
They really need to bring her back, she's ultra interesting as a scammer, and then give Oscar a chance to redeem himself by hunting her down and getting their money back.

Full of emotional moments and surprises.
At the beginning of this series of The Guilded Age, I thought I would not enjoy watching it. However the story line, the clothing designs and the acting is great. I totally appreciate the dignity and the level of intelligence the writers bestowed upon the Afri-American characters. I luv Peggy's mother and have a great respect for the actor who portrays her father,
p.s. I hope this series of The Guilded Age continues on. It’s been a great historical fact and fiction ride from the beginning. My thanks to the great actors, clothing designers, set designers and related crews.

who looked more like the
real man (not so handsome,
and with lighter skin) But
audiences like eye-candy.
Sullivan Jones's acting
ability and eye-candy
rating are both high;
so I see why they chose
him. At this point in the
series I am not sure if
he is going to be a hero
or an anti-hero -- I guess
we will have to find out.
I know that in the late
1800's both Blacks and
Irish competed for the
same jobs in NYC. So,
there was an undeniable
tension between the two
groups. Mixing them
together in housing
and schools was an
explosive combination.

I did not think I would like the Gilded Age either but I’ve loved both seasons I guess it’s because of the historical connection to the Vanderbilt family and it’s well acted. HBO usually has one show I like every year going back to that show “First and Ten” when I was a kid. I thought this was a female only series but my brute self loves it too.
OMG!! Maude Beaton! I did not see that coming! Thought Agnes was going to have a heart attack. Now we have the set up for S3! 🤩
First, her brother squanders her family's fortune. Then she enters a loveless marriage to get financial security & her son gets duped by a pretty face out of her fortune. The men in Agnes' life have not exactly been paragons of financial & emotional security for her.

Old money and influence is about to shift, let's see how that dynamic changes society and the existing relationships of power. I want to see Marion, Larry and Aunt Aida rise above the controversy in their families.
It appears my previous statement that Aunt Ada will again become a "Spinster" is wrong since she was briefly married. She's now just a widow. And maybe her inheritance from the pastor will save the family from financial embarrassment!

I honestly didn't think anything was off with Ms Beaton until she had to go to New Port, I remember feeling like that was odd. When I rewatched little things started to bug me about her, like her meeting Oscar outside of her house no one really fact checking who her father was. What a grifter & a great addition, she played the damsel in distress role well.
I know! That scene when Oscar went back to what was supposed to be her home..😬
I saw a video where the inspiration for the character of Maud Beaton could have been from a lady named Cassie Chadwick. Who conned people into thinking that she was the illegitimate daughter of Andrew Carnegie. Sound familiar?.😉😉😉

Agnes' tenderness towards Luke and Ada was (sort-of) a surprise. Christine B. certainly has
made Agnes a very believable person. The scene between Bertha and George in their private
room was so indicative of their relationship. I desperately want to see Larry and Marian
married.
I wonder if the real Mrs. Astor tried to match up her daughter, Carrie, with a foreign nobleman?
The real Carrie Astor married into the Wilson family; nicknamed the "Marrying Wilsons" because
of their rapid social rise due to their strategic marriages. I hope that the real Carrie Astor found
love and happiness in her marriage. I think that the Duke is a fortune hunter -- It makes me a
little worried for Gladys. I suppose the Duke is really enjoying himself in NYC and Newport.
It must make a man feel secure to know that he is considered a good catch.
I hope they will catch this Maud. After all, Oscar is also not the last person in the city, but one who is honored to sit in the same box with Mrs. Astor, so he will cry for a while, and then they will start thinking rationally with Agnes and raise all their connections with the right people.
She does have a historical counterpart who got cought :). I hope so too
I hope that somehow Luke has left a large estate to Ada. This allows her to support her family and they continue to live as they have. It also would change the dynamic between her and Agnes because she would now be the Top Dog and Agnes might humble herself a bit. I real felt sorry for Oscar and I hope he does survive to fight another day. Marian might be forced to marry cousin Dashiel if Agnes and Ada cannot support her - which pushes her and Larry’s storyline further down into maybe S4 😁?

My heart goes out to Aunt Ada. It's right back to Spinster status after her honeymoon. Well, at least Agnes showed some compassion that I didn't think was in her. And Oscar, poor Oscar. He didn't say exactly how much he lost, but it sounds like the family is on the way to poverty.

So it remains for him to do what he was doing - to look for a rich bride, maybe lower in origin than the van Rhjines, out of new money, maybe whose father with a dubious reputation was engaged in a "dirty" business (according to old families, for example, the same railways, oddly enough).
And let the cousins give them a loan, the same Aurora, so that they can hold out for a while and not lose the honor of the family.

I hope it is discovered that Rev. Luke was actually quite wealthy & that Ada inherits his entire estate. His character was so kind & thoughtful (& played beautifully by Robert Sean Leonard), I want him to be as rich financially as he was rich in kindness of heart & spirit. I would love it if Ada's marriage saves the family (having a love filled marriage saving the family after Agnes' loveless marriage saved it before would be a perfect contrast). But that's my wishful thinking. Can't wait to see the finale' ,but sad it is the last episode of the season.

Agnes was forced into a bad marriage after her brother (Marian’s father) lost their family fortune, just as her son has lost most of the fortune she inherited from her cruel husband. It would be poetic justice for the late Rev. Forte to save the day with a secret fortune to be inherited by Ada. Rev. Forte did after all tell Ada she was the equal of Mrs. Van Rhijn after their marriage…..

Man, i did not see Maude fleecing Oscar coming! Im 66 and glad im not dating anymore, im so gullible. My wife and I love the show tho. Going to miss it after next week
There were 9 episodes of season 1, so why only 8 of season 2?
C’mon Marian-pull the plug, rip off the band aid and let Dadhiel go! Do not end up miserable like Agnes, which will likely happen if she marries Dashiel. Marian has shown herself as a remarkable teacher and can take care of herself! And…if she does end up with Larry, Bertha better not get mad! Both Marian and Bertha are ambitious, but Marian gets paid for it.
Maybe Marian and Larry get married and begin a life together in NJ. Larry can design a beautiful home in Montclair.

The topper will be that Mrs Russell finds out the Duke is broke but has a title and property and she offers up her daughter Gladys to marry him and give them a proper Dowry! Also I don't think Gladys will allow the pairing with the Duke if she doesn't want it, and her father will back her in the decision. Mr. Russell promised he would take her side over Bertha.

Excellent episode. Somehow Oscar will get back on top of things. Hurts so much for Ada. Larry and Marian........has to be, has to be.
The writers have done a very good job of "growing up" Larry. When we first met him in season 1 he seemed too adolescent to consider him for a leading male romance/marriage. Then , his affair up in Newport and then taking on responsibilities within George's business as well as his architectural leanings....all give him maturity and he's ready for his leading lady now.

Or Agnes can pawn the diamonds to maintain a proper lifestyle for a while, i.e. while the investigation is underway and Oscar is looking for a new heiress. Besides, Aurora will feel guilty and she will have to give them a loan. Aurora will also have to urgently look for Oscar a rich bride who wants to get into society.
Well, in general, their situation isn’t as difficult as that of the Morrises, because there are no debts, but there are young Marion and Oscar who can successfully marry.

Hello HBO! After this episode can you just tell us if we are going to have season 3
I suspected that there was a foreshadowing of what was to come of Ada and Luke's relationship when Luke invited her to join him in Mrs. Astor's box for the upcoming tragic opera "Aida". Luke even described it to Ada as such.
Poor Ada. She had happiness for a brief moment before Luke was taken away from her. Mariam is going to have to marry Dashel now because she has to bail the family out of financial difficulties because of Oscar.
Poor Oscar, hope he'll get a happy ending. He's a delightful character.
I’m disappointed that all the predictions about Oscar getting fleeced turned out to be true.
I think Mr. Fortune’s is a widower. I think he’s in love with his late wife and feels that his feelings for Peggy are betrayal to his late wife.
That's a good theory.

I saw on the news that this coming episode is the season finale. What does that means? At first I thought it was over and done but now I am thinking it’ll continue but will it be a big gap for the next season? That’s the only reason I purchased the MAX

Predictable show. It was evident that Oscar was going to be cheated. Miss Beaton had no parents nor relatives. She pretended all the time. Marian has no relevance except for her insecurities and love life. Larry boy does not know what to do or what he want. It’s mom Bertha and daddy George’s son. Peggy is a complete different character. She could have her own show. She’s the only one who’s not predictable.

Did HBO drastically reduce the budget for season 2? I've seen so many re-used dresses which is such a disappointment compared to last year. I'm pretty sure the only new dress Agnes has worn was the one worn to Ada's wedding. Marian is in a season 1 dress at least half the time. Peggy has some new dresses which is great to see. But Bertha- wearing the same dress to multiple public events is a huge letdown and very out of character for her.
All in all I'm loving this season. It started off very slowly but the drama that they've built to is fantastic.
Ada marrying Luke is so contrived it is embarrassing.
A lot of time goes by between episodes. There's one episode that shows the date as 1882 (the death of Peggy's son) then it shows it's March, 1883. We don't see what happens in between but I agree if we didn't take the passing of time into account people falling in and out of love so quickly does seem silly.
I hate that Maud, the fraud, proved me right. But more reason to make Larrian happen sooner than later.
I hope they will catch this Maud. After all, Oscar is also not the last person in city, but the one to sit in the same box with Mrs. Astor, so he will cry for a while, and then they will start thinking rationally with Agnes and raise all their connections with the right people.

When Oscar had the "business transaction" that gave him large dividends, I knew then that he was going to be a victim of fraud. Quick returns seduced him into bringing a larger investment. They dangled the carrot and he lunged for a bite.
