Why are we acting like Marina was innocent. She was willing to trap a man and then play her kid off as his without his knowing. That is the definition of gaslighting and nastiness. She wasn’t innocent.

Also Pen wasn’t pretending to be her friend, she truly was. But she didn’t like the lie Marina was trying to pull. Marina wasn’t an innocent little girl. If fact I’d say Marina had no accountability. She didn’t even apologize to Colin for trying to entrap him. She even made him feel like crap when he went to her. I didn’t like her character at all.

And she kills herself in the books. Which I’m guessing is why so many people would have a huge problem with how Penelope handled the situation. If you read the books and you know Marina ultimately kills herself it would seem highly fucked up.

Unpopular opinion but the way people drag Colin about being mad at Penelope for all the horrible things she has said and wrote being lady whistledown and not one person says Penelope is not as nice as she looks so everyone was jumping down Colin throat for having some type of emotion and the entrapment comment after being betrayed by Marina and the person you said you loved writing horrible things about your family and your sister and then you and if Penelope wanted the Colin she knew back why does she not just ask why is he doing that if there's such good friends? I hate the way people said that Colin needed to beg more or to be more groveling but nobody said that Penelope needed to be a better person or change her character like I was not a fan of her this season and unnecessary hate Colin got and people praising anthony and Simon like Simon was activity lying to his wife because she was naive and instead of anthony to stop courting edwina and see if the feelings for Kate would go or keep growing he decided to propose but when Colin knew he wanted to be with Penelope he proposed and made sure he wifed her up quickly but Penelope the liar and impulsive writer who writes without making considering other people's feelings deserves better. Okay internet maybe you and I watched two different shows.

It doesn’t mean Pen should’ve aired her out like that in Lady Whistledown. She didn’t tell the truth just because it was right. She did it because she didn’t want Marina marrying the love of her life.

Changing the gender of Francesca’s future love interest has zero to do with being homophobic it’s about the fact that it makes zero sense given the exact circumstances of why and how she got with the cousin.
It would have made more sense with Elouise being gay than Francesca being gay or bisexual because the Elouise getting married to Philip after his first wife kills was kinda gross and didn’t seem as genuine.

Completely agree with the idea of Colin development on his travels. He admitted to Cressida that he longed for home, especially Penelope. He said he missed her early on. Even if it was delayed - he could have looked at letters (in his bed!!!) dreaming and longing and flash backing…. After the kiss before the carriage. That would have developed more of their writing connection too. Many more errors with Colin’s story but I think they intended for it to be a dragged out battle and will continue them in S4 but I think Colin will continue to be less. Also Kanthony not likely to be in S4 per showrunner. It’s mostly written. They are saying “we don’t want to get in the way of the actors projects”

Definitely a drop in quality both in writing and editing. It feels forced by pushing dramatic plot points instead of characters connecting organically. People seem to enjoy it based on favorite character/couples so it seems like it is too easy to overlook the blatant disservice they are doing to the show by churning the storylines out like this. It's removing so much of what we have invested in previously with this family and what makes the future of this series shaky at best. Two year wait for this, now another two years for 'best work yet' is something I am not buying.

Honestly I’ve always had weird feelings towards Penelope. I know many disagree but her true colors were shown many times and I found it hard to care about much of this season. Idk. Sue me I guess.

Absolutely agreed with your take wrt Pen. She really didn't face any external consequences. Admittedly she does work through her internal struggles and trauma from childhood. However, I cannot get behind how her treatment of Marina and how that is 'feminist' in any way. The Lady Whistledown hustle was at its heart, exploitative. Pen's column might have been better this season, but it was built on oppressing women more. Nicola was the saving grace, I love her as a person, and her acting, but man oh man, does Pen suck.

This whole Marina thing in season 1 never happened in the book. Marina is married to Phillip in book 4. She is a Bridgerton cousin. Somewhere, I remember Pen Trying to tell Colin about Matina and he flipped it off. I'm glad she told because Matina was tricking Colin. She was lying to him. She was no innocent! So I'm glad Pen outed her.

I am really sorry, I am just few minutes in, and I usually watch the whole video before commenting... but I must.
Pen LOVED Marina. She was the older sister she never had. She supported her lovestory with George as a 17-year-old whose only experience is having a long term crush. LW does not write about Marina being the new star to bash Daf, but because Pen was herself taken by her charm and wanted to emphasize it, not realizing that she hurt Daf's chances in the process.
It is never said, because LW identity is a secret, but it fits.
Colin is interested in Marina even in the first episode. Pen does not make a peep. You can argue that she is not concerned with Colin's feelings for Marina as Marina is in love with George. That is valid.
Pen's problem is not neccesary that Colin is in love, but that Marina is not. This is not just her long-term crush being entrapped in a marriage of convenience, but also her friend and her best-friends brother. She would likely feel the same if it were Anthony and Ben.
Yes, Pen is jealous. Not saying she isn't. See the "tomatos" comment. But that is not why she publishes the story, and seeing it through lense that it is only jealousy feels out of place.
She publishes it because Marina and Colin plan to elope, and that Colin will find out that he is not the father because Marina is already showing. Meaning that any hope for them having a love-marriage is likely gone.
Because that while Pen has a crush and has her hopes, she likely knows that Colin marrying someone else is possibility.
I would argue that Pen's crush was untimatelly the thing that kept Pen from revealing the truth to Colin and Bridgertons sooner, as she felt guilty.
The dinner and later conversation is a turning point for her. She is 17-year-old who throws the bomb.
I am not blaming anyone involved in this.
EDIT: Finished the video. I agree with most what you said. I really enjoyed Colin in part 1, and I thought his reactions were valid, but him going to Cressida made me laughed. Yes, Colin is nice. But sorry, that was dumb. Colin KNOWS Cressida. That whole thing was out-of-character, and I say it as a Polin fan. They should have more focused on them figuring things out, and still show him support her and listen to her in 308 while still feeling hurt.
My problem with Fran is more about the kiss itself and her being flustered, as it downplays her first love to John, than the genderbend. But being critical of genderbend is still valid, because Michael is guilty of John for his place in life and his wife. You can't recreate that as well with woman.
EDIT 2: Forgot to mention - writers can't really do much as they are not in charge for who could be present in what part of the season. Many issues come from writers trying to find excuse why character is not present while actor couldn't be. We can critise it, while also keeping it it mind. I feel for Kanthony.

As someone who’s only watched a few eps in season1. And found out about Michaela and I can’t wait for that season and will be sat.. Also yeah the reaction has been telling and interesting to say the least.

Not a fan of the planned Marina entrapment. That arc was more about Colin’s vulnerability and eager participation in the ton, setting up Colin feeling lost without purpose and always fleeing away from family to hopefully find some kind of direction. I thought Pen did the right thing with WD exposing Marina as she was too immature and insecure as a character to tell Colin the exact truth. She is very protective of WD. She should have told him this season. It was drama for him to discover it. Pen lost me there. You have your love.., tell HIM! I think writers did it for drama and also some kind of female empowerment for the time period.

I hope there is an opportunity for someone else to re-interpret the Bridgerton story. We have all learned a lot from Chris Van Dusen and Shonda Rhimes. I am ready to get out of their headspace and visit a new territory. Thank goodness the books are still intact.

on Francesca's point, I disagree, I will give it a chance because it could be great , IDK , though I must say I doubt it would based on S3 which was OK at best to my view- but I think there is a big fanbase of Bridgeton books that find it redundant to change a main character's gender , and that's OK! you can definitely say 'just read the book' - fair enough, but what you need to understand is that for some people and even most people who read the books, Fran's story was a favorite , and I don't understand why change characters that are based on such a beloved book series instead of building NEW story lines! especially considering Fran's book was reflecting a story of a woman facing fertility issues, I don't really see how they would fix that eventually with Michaela .... on the representation front: look at queen Charlotte's series and Brimsly and Reynolds, this was done perfectly !!!!! and if there is a spin off with gay males / females and it will be done in a good way I will be the first one to watch !! but don't change a character that already exists in so many people's minds like that.. I think it is wrong but I think I will still watch and hope it is good

Great video! Totally agree about Cressida. I think she'll be back to exact revenge. As a reader, I'm so excited for Michaela. Think of the potential as they wouldn't need chaperones.I was a little disappointed that Fran got flustered, but ppl are being ridiculously homophobic. I actually Colin & Pen would break up & come together in a later season & hoped despite Ruby's beef with the show that Marina would be back. Showrunner called this a family drama, so I guess they see this as more of an ensemble

It's so hard when each season has a "Lead Couple" when it should really be more ensemble like throughout and then highlight that particular Bridgerton and their romantic lead. That way the character growth doesn't feel so stagnant and held back. I really enjoyed Kate and Anthony's season but the way they just kind up popped up here and there was kind of just..."here for exposition, here to move a plot point forward..." I get that there are so many characters that the writers are trying to balance the leads with fan favorites but come on. Why not make spin offs with certain main/side characters so we can keep some interesting plot points going forward. I would love to see Kate and Anthony have their own show (maybe in India or how they take over the Viscount-ship on the day to day rather than just the "season") or even the Mondrich family to focus on a new family joining the ton and give us more class issues. (I don't know why Netflix didn't save the Gossip Girl reboot because that would have been a perfect trio in scheduling between Emily in Paris and Bridgerton but I digress). Bridgerton almost needs go Grey's Anatomy with Spin offs; it would help with the two year delay between Bridgerton seasons and the production could just keep everything rolling. A Cressida spin off would be fantastic to see her either try and get revenge again or grow as her own person or into her sexuality (possibly) or finding an actual romantic partner. Per the books, she does get married and then her husband dies suddenly. Plus, these characters can "guest star" in the main Bridgeton series but we have greater context of their story from their spin off. I am so excited by Francesca being bi-sexual and getting a queer main romance down the line! I guess she has an infertility storyline in the books (couldn't have kids with John but does with 'Michael' I think) but I would be interested to see how they tackle that or give it to someone else. I would love for Benedict to have an OT3. Everyone loves Sophie and Benedict's Cinderella story in the book but I hope the writers make an original male character and give us a poly situation again. I was more drawn to Benedict's scenes in season 3 than Collin and Penelope (sorry, not sorry).
