This was excellent right up until 25:15, when Simon says that Apollo 8 made the first moon landing in December 1968. Apollo 8 was the first manned mission to the moon, but only to make 10 orbits, then return to Earth. Apollo 11 was the first to land human beings on the moon, on July 20 1969. For all mankind is a damn masterpiece. Especially the first 2 seasons where it’s an alternate of factual events. I was surprised to learn that the Soviets were actually more concerned about redundancy than the USA was, they wanted a full lander and return craft to be landed unmanned on the moon first so that their crew would have a backup plan to get them home if something went wrong with their lander. They didn't actual see the point of a manned mission to the moon other than to be first to return their hero safely. The U.S. having seperate engines for ascent and descent on the Lunar Module was safer than the Soviet LK usage of one engine for both. Landing has a risk of an uneven surface crunching the nozzle, or debris kicked up by a descent damaging the nozzle. Either case would leave you stranded.
