  • Reverb can sneakily ruin your song's clarity, and it's so easy to overlook. In this video I unpack the #1 most common reverb mistakes I see every week, and how to fix them EASY.
Using reverb in music production is a crucial part of the process, but I realized recently how much digital reverb's stick out.
And the worst part is, if you're the kind of person that relies on presets and doesn't know how to HEAR this stuff... you're probably doing this. A lot. Like, your reverb could be ruining your song's clarity in a big big way.
So let's reclaim our clarity, precision, and song's sound!

BOOM! How do you like these quick tips as opposed to the longer form bits? With shorter videos I love how I can go a bit deeper on one topic and it's still a quick bite in your day....
Either way, thanks for being here ll add in this comment who won, and DM you!

Interesting to use bell curves to notch out resonances. I've done this a few times when some resonances really poke out, but I usually just use roll off filters. Definitely something i feel newer engineers don't know.

TBH I feel like it's doing the same thing, I dont know why I just like the feel of the bell curve more. Something just feels better, as lame as that sounds?? hahha

@@john_mclucas the difference is the filter removes everything and if you wanna keep some of it the bell works better. i sometimes use it on drum reverb when there's an annoying ring in the verb that isn't as prominent in the close mic. Makes it super helpful to get rid of vs cutting it all out. For vocals, yeah same thing it tames it and gets the job done. which ultimately is the goal. most listeners won't hear the difference ;)

Great video as always!! I always recommend my students to use a low-cut and high cut on reverb. Even if there are built in controls, It’s always good to check with a graph placed after to see if anything unpleasant still makes it through the processing
Never thought to analyze the fundamental frequency and attenuate it… i’ll have to try that out! Seemed to really improve the clarity of the sound :)

Thanks Ken! THat's a great point about always checking visually as well. As much as it's all about the ears, sometimes in un-ideal situations using graphs can help a ton. It's very hard to hear fundamental resonances below 200HZ even in solo for a lot of people!
