😯😯😯 we rely on other countries for raising chickens? I am confused and how that even makes sense. Our government policies must change. Food security must only be threatened by natural disasters and draughts only. We hope Kenya makes it out this terrible situation. I can't imagine why Governments would support importing GMO products into their countries when you have much better options from Intra-Continental Trade Agreement partners

Don't say East Africa. Say Kenya.
When something is good you say kenya this kenya that... When it is a bad thing you say East Africa...
Tanzania has plenty of food nowadays..

And funny enough, we are having an over production of eggs just next door in Uganda!! 😅😅 Kenya has the option of getting all the eggs it needs at a fair price from its biggest trading partner but is hell bent on protecting its inefficient domestic production market. Moreover Kenya gets majority of its animal feeds from Uganda!! Hmmmm.

It's even funnier when you find out that Uganda gets it's chicks from KALRO.

Sirlee, economists will tell you that, no company can expect a return beyond the economics of its industry, nor can a country expect to survive beyond its economic realities. Countries that recognise this do prosper but those ignorant of it pay the consequences.
Uganda is capable of feeding a population of at least 200 million, according to the international estimates I have seen. Given our fertile soil, plenty of rain, water, sunshine and without any desert or arid conditions, we are capable of producing food throughout the year; unlike our neighbours I can think of such as Kenya, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Somalia and numerous countries around the world. This reality will prevail as the population of these countries increases over time.
Therefore, "protecting" any "inefficient domestic production market" may not be as noticeable today as in the future when this practice has become a liability. We in Uganda will be waiting and doing what we do best, by producing more food than we can consume at home.

@@Heegooat Well, when good leadership or precisely GOOD GOVERNANCE is non-existent, a lot will go wrong, and no country can make any progress at all. Are you surprised by what has been revealed about your government budgetary expenditures dating back to 2013 and culminating in the deadly "Gen Z" protest recently?

Over-commercialization of food will be Kenya's downfall. This 'kilimo biashara' push will drive food costs higher and higher. Please plant at least some of your own food and continue keeping local kienyeji chicken and cattle. The power to feed ourselves is being taken away from us by over regulation and licensing. Take heed!
