    We headed out with Ellie Rothnie for another day testing the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III. This time we went to Aberystwyth to check out some of the fantastic starling murmurations. It was a great opportunity to test out the low-light performance of the camera, whilst getting some gorgeous images of one of Wales' most striking natural moments.

    I can imagine the low light performance, coupled with my 400mm f2.8 would allow me to shoot much later in the evening. The 20fps looked amazing too. Hope you can do more videos like this :-)

      Talvinder Chohan I hear that!! I’m using the 1d mark IV with the 400mm 2.8 and would love this upgrade!

    Using the mark 2 now with the 1999 300mm 2.8L IS is already incredible, maybe in a few years when people are selling their 1DX3's for the mirrorless version they will become more affordable :D

      Probably at least 1-2 months yet. Who knows. I got one, was defective Canon thought/seemed like, had to send back after a week. Now I wait months for another one. Had camera crash/restart like 3-5 times, and also 2-3 lenses stopped working suddenly, once it happened twice in 1 hour on same lens. Called Canon and he said prob. electrical issue, especially since camera logged a certain error code. Sucks. Waited 6 years to upgrade my body, finally get something and got issues, lol. Part of it is probably firmware, since other people are reporting crashes or weird stuff as well. But I didn't want to pay that much money and keep it and risk being hardware issue. Then have to send to get repaired/who knows how long that will take/etc. Although at this point, maybe same amount of time.

      mattli911 damn that sucks. I saw a few international versions but I’m not planting down $7000 only to not have a warranty. I’ll wait for the US version. Did you send your camera back already? What was it doing wrong? How was it defective? I got confused because you went into talking about lenses too.

      @@MrGflan I sent back to B&H here in USA. They will do a swap they said for a new one. I had it crash and restart/log error code on me, the 1st day I used it. Was bursting in Live View, photographing some birds in flight and suddenly I saw cleaning sensor message and it restarted. So I was like ok.... weird.... I kept shooting and I think it was fine the rest of that day. But then over the next 3-5 days, it did similar thing again. Crashed/restarted bursting in live view.
      When I say lens stopped working, i mean, I was trying to focus on some stuff, and suddenly the lens stopped responding 100%. No AF/NO IS, nothing. It acted like there was no lens attached at all. That happened twice in 1 hour one day, and like 5-6 times overall in the week i had it. On Multiple lenses. I've never had that happen before with any camera/lens I've used. So because of that + crashing, i figured it might be defective and called Canon. He said he thought the same thing, and if I can return/get a new one, I should. He said it should not be doing any of that/sounds defective and not worth messing with it. I could send in to get repaired, but I said they prob. won't even have the parts to fix it now anyways, and he agreed. So I sent it back, and I got the refund... but now I wait.... Since I used payboo with B&H, it gets refunded that way.. which basically is "Store credit". I can't use that money anywhere but B&H... so now I wait....

      mattli911 wow that is crazy!! Really bad. You did the right thing. I would have done the same. BH and adorama are both good to deal with.
      In regards to lenses, same here. I’ve had lots of used and new lenses over the years and never had any of those issues. That seems like all camera issues yes. I would have been so mad also. I longed to get one of these this whole past month and now I’m glad I didn’t, just so they can work these things out. Seems like others are reporting similar things. I also know a reviewer who said it crashed and needed a reboot several times. This is not acceptable for such an expensive camera. How was the tracking for birds in flight? Is it leaps and bounds better than the other camera you had? Did you have the mark II? I have a 1D mark IV and just today received a 1Dx in great shape because I needed a better low light camera. I’m really curious to see how the Mark III tracks small birds. In the reviews it seems like the detection would follow really well, but I can’t say for sure how well it would pinpoint a sparrows eye or something really small. I also wonder how live view would track on a gimbal mount. Hopefully you will get one very soon! At least you didn’t get it off eBay like I thought about doing! I’m glad I didn’t!!

      Gary...I had the same feeling.... but decided to wait till they start shipping w 1080p 23.9 already updated...by then, all these other bugs will have been worked out by early adopters (hate to say the that, but yea, with all the freezing reports, scared me off a bit at that price.... but for sure....I'll be upgrading in 6 months or so

    Awww...shoot....I see they moved the remote socket back to the left side...I always hated it there...loved it on the right side with the 1DX2.... more problems when on an L plate.
    I'm constantly above 12,800... 51.2 I'm not afraid of... how's it look? Perhaps enlist a photog who shots nightscapes, or photojournalist who shoots evening events

    First, never show stupid people a lens hood that is put on wrong 1:25, there are enough out in this world who will do this.
    Second, is your gym closed and you need some workout? Why don't you use Canon Camera Connect and your smartphone or tablet? There is Wi-Fi built in, you don't have to torture yourself, you can stand upright and use a bigger display. - Nothing against the good old remote switch, I bought mine for the D60 (not 60D) or 10D and still use it sometimes, but in this situation a smartphone or tablet connected through Wi-Fi will do the better job.

    • @watcharlie
      @watcharlie 4 роки тому +7

      First, the lens hood is not put on wrong haha. It's for when you don't want to use it, just turn it around. (do you even know what a lens hood is used for?)
      Second, When using wifi it drains the battery life and also whos going to carry around a tablet and waste time setting it all up whilst missing half the action going on.
