You can do all the same mods to A485 as to T480. Everything is the same besides the cpu. Lakc of Thunderbolt is actually a good thing as TB chip had a fatal flaw and can fry itself to death on T480 and all other thinkpads. Fix is hard to install for some. A485 just doesnt have the issue at all so its more of a trouble free experience and cheaper price is a biggest advantage. Where i live its impossible to get a proper t480 with discrete graphics for less than twice the price of A485.
I got the same thinkpad for about $200 of my country's currency. It has decent but not the best battery life, came with a ryzen 5 pro 2500u, 16GB RAM and a 256GB and 128GB ssd, runs minecraft on arch linux very well and windows 10 runs also quite smoothly. Getting this one for $50 is an absolute steal
Those trackpad mods should work, but you may have to mess with device HWID's in the driver INF file when installing it. I had to do something similar to my T480s and used the website driveridentifier to figure out the device ID with some trial and error
It can, as long as its mostly stuff to 2015, all valve games run perfectly. NFS games, and all GTA games run very well. It can handle PS2 and GC/Wii emulation just fine too.
Make sure you use appropriate cooling and UXTU to unlock the tdp. Its possible to get 20-30 fps in baldurs gate 3 720p w/fsr ultra quality. I have an a285 which is effectively an amd x280.
Crazy how you can play gta V normally without hard lag, I played a small low setting game (roblox) it lagged harder than I ever could imagine wasn’t even playable to be honest 😢
i wanna get a dell 7480 i5 6300u but i want the ryzen because gaming and my max is 300 cad but the thinkpad bezels are gross what do you reccomend because i cant chose and i want to know is it possible to put the ryzen in the dell
$50 for this beauty?? Did you buy this off a meth junkie? What a steal! I just ordered a touchscreen T480 i5 8th gen with 16gb ram and 512 ssd nvme for ~$350... Hope it's in decent shape when it gets here🤞
a485 is a rubbish laptop, the worst one i have ever owned by far, there is a still unsolved glitch where when you unplug the laptop and replug it, the cpu down clocks to an absurd 2 ghz, this problem can only be solved by restarting the laptop with the power adapter plugged in, another one is the cpu cooler on my unit didnt mount properly to the cpu, there was a .2mm gap at minimum between the die and the chip, so it overheated, this isnt wide spread but the power adapter issue def is, the performance isnt that far off the t480s 8th gen cpu but the graphics are actually just as bad since they throttle very aggressivly even if there is thermal headroom, the cooling issue on my unit was solved by buying a thermal grizzly carbonaut pad, which took my cpu from 99c @2.1ghz and 400cb, to a much better 84c max 600cb score (both r15 benchmark) overall this machine has no reason to exist, 2nd gen ryzen mobile sucks, and the t480 is a far better buy
I had massive issues with the laptop until I updated the firmware. And it still has obscure issues that I haven't had with an Intel laptop. But I got my a485 for a third the cost of a t480 and I can't complain for that price.
@@JaxonTheNerd yeah in that case it is a great laptop, but still i cant believe lenovo fucked it up the a485 if the firmware was not gimped at launch would have been a great laptop even for retail price at the time

I totally agree! Stalking ebay pays off sometimes.

Quality is insane man you’re gonna blow up soon it’s well paced and informative without losing out on entertainment value
This is what I need, simple to the point and clear, great video.
Your first video and the quality is soooooo goooood. Carry on like this and you'll blow up in no time

Well I did just check out unlocking the tdp. It makes a world of difference.
Here before this man gets launched to the moon. Great content!

I'd make sure the power profile is set to the highest performance setting
Where do you get this for 50$? Are prices in the US really that low?
I spend too much time on EBay. Also I bought it without RAM or storage which brought the price down.
@@JaxonTheNerd Ah, good find!
Ma this could be be better than a t480. Will definitely get that one
The gpu on the ryzen model carries it so hard
what desktop environment do you use?
I've been using KDE on this laptop and GNOME on my main PC.
Question: Can it perform Doom Eternal well?
I wouldn't say well, but you might get 30fps at 720p low
This video is really nice but can you try using 3rd party software to boost the cpu's tdp to 35 watts? I heard lenovo limited the tdp on these ryzens
It's gonna be the next video
Great video keep up !!!!
uhh is my alienware m15 r6 good enough to play CS2
More than likely. The RGB should be good for at least a few extra fps.
@@JaxonTheNerd Ok I just want to know thank you :)

Getting a ryzen in that dell isn't possible. But you may want to consider a used E series thinkpad as well or a used gaming laptop.
i was looking i just dont like the bezels could i put an eqivelent intel thanks
but can you play crysis on it?!?!
idk, but I'm pretty sure you can run doom
how do you get this prices maaan , that was a good deal really
An unhealthy addiction to ebay
Nice vid I sub'd :D

This need an egpu
That's disgusting and I love it

720p Lowest Settings with fsr ultra performance it's a 22 fps average.
Yo Nice Vid
