- Hi Everyone, this is definitely not the result I was hoping for at FD Stl. My first time getting knocked out in top 32 for years, I felt like I was driving the RTR Ford Mustang better than ever but it just wasn't meant to be this time.
Still an action packed video and I hope you enjoy.
Next up will be the RX7, we are working absolutely flat out day and night trying to get this car finished ahead of Lz Festival in Mondello Park this weekend.

There shouldn’t have been an OMT, i’m not sure how FD is making these mistakes with so many technical advancements. Hearing the judges call him out for straightening out then him going on the rumble strips which they clearly said was a no-no and still getting the win is mind blowing.
This was the worse round of judging any drift series, in the history of judging. Never seen anything like it. They need to get on that DMEC level, and I'm American 😂

It’s not about being American dude. I think it’s done on purpose against RTR.
Funny enough before that round started I thought to myself “wow the judges have been great this season!” and then this event had a ton of calls I didn’t quite understand. I agreed with some of the calls but their reasoning made no sense. I guess they had to make up for the first 4 rounds
@@tancankemaller7136 Yes there was some shitty calls at St. Louis but you can’t seriously believe rtr is being targeted. Rtr wasn’t the only team dealing with bad calls and they also won the previous 3 events.
@@tancankemaller7136and it’s not even about it being against rtr FD judging is just terrible in general.
In the FD livestream they establish that touching the rumble strip on Outside Zone 4 is considered "a tire off [course]", and that "dropping a tire [off course]" is grounds for losing your battle (see Adam's battle), yet Thorn gets to freely plant himself on the red and white rumble strip and "drop a little bit of a tire" and NOT be ruled against for it. Absolutely terrible judging.

Since when does dropping a single tire equal a L, when the chase driver can miss 2 OZ's? It complete total BS
@@cliff4695 he means lead vs lead James lead was almost perfect but thorn droped a tyre in his lead, thats where I see the comparison both hadn't the best chase, they wer both washy so I go off the leads then see is there a difference and there was James clearly won. One of the judges actually agreed
@@cliff4695 Sorry, should've clarified that if all other things are equal in chase and lead runs, but one driver drops a tire, then that driver should lose the battle and it shouldn't be an OMT.
@@Barry.ONeill You said it better than I did. That's exactly the point that I was trying to make, that based on Thorn doing what amounts to dropping a tire while Deane not doing anything like that in his runs means that Thorn should have lost and Deane should have won.
Its funny that on Adam's chase, they said that Field's lead was the reason Adam could make a good chase, but gave no props to Deane's lead being the reason Thorne could make a good chase. And Thornes first lead seemed choppy as hell, affecting Deanes first chase.
It's a broken record at this point.

Agreed, spot on. I thought it would been easy looking lead vs. lead, because you need a good lead to have a good chase.
Just to add Deanes lead in the first battle was better than Matts ...matt had Hella wobbles in zones especially 3

@fzR-up2uu It has nothing to do with team sizes. The shit that some drivers did that weekend should have put the under the same scrutiny as James. Ryan Aasbo both dropped tires, yet it wasn't a factor in the judging. It's not that deep. The problem is that some drivers are held to a higher standard than the rest, which is why we see these BS questionable calls. 9 years of watching FD, and it's only recently (3years) has the call been so weird and hard to understand.
FD judging is terrible, it’s not even consistent from event to event.
I would love to have the DMEC judging calls on all bullshit we have seen last week !

From event to event more like run to run sometimes especially that weekend. Shocking.
I started watching FD again after years just because you came back.. as i see nothing has changed with the judging.. sad

They will just do what they always do. Either call their fans idiots through condescending remarks, or say they made changes to the rules but still keep the same judges that don't use the rules to make their calls.

The OMT was uncalled for, judging sadly is getting more and more inconsistent as they as more rules that they cant follow consistently, and choose track layouts that are “too” easy thus making battles about mistakes rather than who fulfills the goals the best respective to the lead/chase position.
Also if they’d explain their judging decision a bit better than “we just wanna see that again”
I agree with you regarding the tracks. They always feel the same to me for the most part and are too short. If you watch DMEC they have much more interesting layouts and the tracks are longer from what I've seen.

OMT from two of the judges was very surprising. Both your runs were better. You got robbed again. Lookin forward to the next round 👍
Jonathan Hurst said it best when he pointed out that drivers other than the top guys like Freddy, Tuerck, and Field especially, who are also bffs with everyone in charge, have to win by at least 20-30% to even have a chance of getting the call which couldn’t be more true. But the sad part is even then, there is still a pretty good chance they lose.

Im not sure how many times i have watch this and cant work out what the judges marked you down for. Defo less mistakes of the two. You can’t have a good chase with out a good lead. On the plus side. This reminds of when you figured the euro fighter out. Keep the head up and we go again 🙌🏼🙌🏼

That's was a straight zero and James did NOT scrub speed. I like Thorne but he deff didn't not win that run
Robbed in middle of day.. was crazy hearing judges try explain they decision
can you guys record the drivers meeting or write down what the judges want to see in both places of the run.
That way the team can create a "guide" or a checklist to help with the inconsistency clearly present in FD.
For Example; Judges stated in drivers meeting we want the driver to not leave oz1 early, but you notice drivers doing this are getting away with.
I think having a checklist like this can improve when protesting and help bring to light to all the sketchy stuff going around FD
Never seen someone get penalised for being wide in an outside zone
And for some reason forsberg kept leaving oz1 early but they kept allowing it ???
So heres the thing, they might say that "it was said in the drivers briefing" but then they go about and keep making calls that are not in line with what they say in the drivers meeting. The same thing happens in DMEC so its not just a one series problem. It happens in the Swe champs, Scani champs, local comps etc
What needs to happen is a judging manual that they need to stick to. I think it also would make it easier for the judges as they have something that explains to them why one thing is better than another. This needs to be universal so if you start your grassroots career you will learn from day one what its like being judged in FD or DMEC

Haven’t watched FD in years to be honest ,their judging hasn’t made any sense for years unfortunately!! Only thing that got me back to watch it a little bit this year is your return.

I remember the poll on the livestream on who won that battle and it was around 80% that voted for Deane. I don't think all of them are fanboys. Of course, we all have some preferred drivers but most of us are still capable to be objective enough to vote on who performed better or am I wrong? And that OMT was even worse. I would have given it a shared fault because Thorne was on a much tighter line with less angle. I think without that dirt drop he would've still straightened in the chase. I need to rewatch that frame-by-frame to really settle my opinion on this but this made me so upset that I don't want to. :D

Judges somehow closed their eyes when Thornes rear wheel goes over the red white , but james went a bit longer on outside 1 they made a huge fuss over it as if Thorne didn't do that in his lead somewhere between the two runs. Pretty bad judging tbh.

at 18:09 thorne completely straightened out and you can clearly see the steering snap to straight roll forward 3-4ft and then re-initiate drift, no dirt got kicked up at OZ 1 james dropped a quarter of a tire
Watched this a few times and just before. No dirt, no slow down. Thorne was so deep he didn’t have a chance. He straightened because he sent it too deep.

Agreed. I was there with my son and he was like "that's Dean'es car!" when it pulled up. When Chelsea got out and ran to his car we lost it.

In reference to getting used to the track in the dark before qualifying, maybe it would be a good idea to try out some really dark sun glasses on a few runs during practice so that you could get your reference points down in low light? Just a thought, probably not an original idea haha. Great driving James! You are the best
I like the way we are getting to see the trials and tribulations of the pro game warts and all. humble honest and totally real which is hard to beat and shows the effort put in. It's interesting seeing the full picture and not just a sugar coated ego boosting success story vibe and that can only be good for those coning behind you into the drift game😎👌🔥

Hang in there James, FD couldn't beat you in 2017,18,19, and they won't beat this year. Every drift fan who watched this knows you were robbed in the 1st battle. If this is how FD operates, it's a poor reflection on the sport.

I feel like the judges should be separated from Jared and the broadcast because it seems like which ever judge is in the booth commentating can’t focus and judge the run appropriately! Also I feel like the judges decision is swayed due to Jared’s comments! They should be in a separate room with no access to the livestream or Jared! You and Adam kinda got the nasty end of the stick because of this!

A been a tough season of FD for you bro getting used to a whole new kind of car to drift whilst doing the top competition in the world you’d be killing this in the Eurofighter! Worst round of judging! I've not seen nothing like it. FD was getting back on point up to this round. It all went tits up here. Judges need to pull it together or they will loose audience and drivers if they carry on like this. I definitely think you won top32 battle. Great video btw. Keep up the good work 🔥🔥🔥

That was a clean win for james. Thats why i watch DMEC over formula drift. DMEC has better judges and better tracks.

James, I think when you go from third into fourth you should stay in to the end for the last outer zone problem is is the wheel speed is so high you gotta try to get a handle on your line before you get into outer zone four

FD destroys itself. If you got a name in FD, you got an advantage (like field). We need a worldchampionship with neutral judges. And holy moly, not so much time between the runs.

Your first lead run was nearly perfect, when I saw that I was like Mann James is on fire. Robert never really matched your angle in chase and his lead run was full of wheel corrections in the zones. judges always preach on lead runs and mimicking one could argue the only reason Thorne even stood a chance in chase is because how clean your lead was. Good driving either way I feel they are holding you to such a high standard with your past accolades.

I thought maybe supporting you may have made me a little biased but even rewatching the first battle, you did more than enough to beat Thorne. They just seemed to want to OMT everyone. They made Odi omt Field and i couldn't see why either. I feel like the level of drifting in FD this year is exposing the cracks in the judging
