youtube : hey you might be interested in watching this video about black panther
oof
How's your mom?
@G Ren Finally I find someone who agrees Black Panther is a good movie, everyone thinks it's overrated and while yeah it kinda is, it's not a bad Marvel movie, it's actually pretty great.
G Ren The same “professional critics” who made Boss Baby the best animated feature, I presume.
Killmonger is not a great villain because his motivations make no sense and even contradicts with one another.
- At first it would seem that he is angry because of his father’s death, but no, when he meets his farther, he’s like “everybody dies, eventually”, which means this is not about his father but something greater.
- We later finds out that it is about killing the white in power, liberating the black people, and since the movie doesn’t show how the black are being oppressed, meaning that this will be based on the viewer’s knowledge of the world, but the white in power nowadays are actually doing their best to give black people the rights they deserve.
- Killmonger also stabs Zuri the moment he finds out that’s uncle James, so it is not about liberating people, it’s just that he hates those who oppose his farther’s point of view, but when T’challa reveals himself to be alive and the Dora turned on him, he was like “what’s up!”, all smiling and stuff, turns out he simply enjoys bullying random people, black or white if they do not obey him, in fact, he’s been like this since the beginning.
- So he’s not angry and he does not act like someone who is fighting for a noble cause, that means he’s a cocky bastard who wants to rule the world, and how can you call that a great villain?
Do correct me if I’m wrong, personal opinions matter, just because someone’s not a professional doesn’t mean they’re not allowed to give their thoughts, you were basically saying that normal people have no rights to complain about the products they bought.
HypliX' good actually

He might have been raised there but he spent most of his time around others, improving his skills throughout the world, peoples speech pattern change heavily as they encounter new people

@@chanceofbliss8175 my case is however further established by the fact that this killmonger was an MIT student at age 16 and a special black ops agent, meaning at a very young age he conditioned himself to understand the lingo present in both these scenarios and thrived very well at it

You being poor isn't a result if racism and segregation in the 60's, it's because the king if wakanda killed your father and abandon you and your ancestors (well on his father side, we don't know who his mother is) was never a slave. They were wakandan royalty. The richest royal family that is still the head of state of the richest nation. Heck, I don't get why any of them act like they've been colonized and hate those "colonizers" Since fron what we've learned, wakanda was always a technologically advance nation that went into hiding.

@@tribalbey1378 WE KNOW!!!!!
But it's not talking about him
The characters needed similar motives but opposing methods of achieving their goals, T'challa wanted to see Wakanda help others by giving aid, and Killmonger wanted to help others by killing their oppressers.
T'challa should have had some kind of temptation to overcome, a temptation that was on a personal level not just wanting to right the wrongs(while I think that is still good) of his people
Meanwhile Killmonger would be raw and indulgent in all of his desires, wanting to and craving the destruction of those around him while at the same time seeming cool, and exploding at certain points as he let his desires consume his character

Also idk his motives...maybe black supremacy?
Zexon Hairi everything about him made sense. People are always reaching, saying that Black Panther wasn't an awesome movie, and that Killmonger was corny. It's a reach, at best. I think it's fake and phony to act like nothing impresses you. People are literally going out of their way just to tell everybody "Black Panther didn't impress me." That means you WERE impressed.
@@Ms9mmBeretta Black panther isnt a bad movie. It isnt the greatest movie ever made either. But it is visually appealing and there are some cool storylines. I just feel like to say "kill monger needs thanos type of dialogue" is a reach. Which isn't true. Untop of that the dynamic between t'chala and killmonger isnt brother rivarly; t'chala never knew killmonger existed. If anythings it a wake up call to the corruption in wakanda and that wake up call was killmongers purpose.
That's exactly right
What people misunderstood in this movie is the whole malcolm x Martin Luther King comparison. It's misguided. Black panther story is more akin to the tales of the shsolin temple and its ex members, like San fe who went out to help people and pai mei who was corrupt

Villains are the most interesting when they stick around and become more layered and in depth over time. Mcu has a bad habit of killing them off after one film.
Not necessarily. Plenty of villains do overstay their welcome and their motives become repetitive and lame. Stryker and Magneto from the X-Men movie saga are the most obvious examples. There is also the case where a popular villain becomes so ubiquitous that other villains are set aside to give the spotlight to said villain. Joker from DC Comics tends to be used in that way.

yeah its overrated but its not a bad movie. I still think Killmonger was the best part of the movie. I loved his performance. He's relatable in a way. Most superhero villians have long and slow speeches (which can be boring at times) but killmonger doesn't do that. They tried something different and it worked.
Techツ it’s a very average Mcu film. It followed the same structure as most of the films, while the cultural aspect was nice the visual effects were incredibly lackluster. The villain was another “same powers as the hero” trope in the mcu, and black panther himself was very very meh unlike his appearance in Civil War which was phenomenal
@@brandonvillanueva1545 It was above average in my opinion due to the cool visuals, the costumes, the soundtrack, and the villain of course. It was different and I liked it. 3.75/5 in my book

Techツ I liked Killmonger too, I thought it was a dumb move to kill him off and give him a suit. The suit negates his premise from the comics. Micheal B did a good job. I also liked Mishonne, I mean Akoyé
The contrasting hero-villain dichotomy that gets this tension right was Bruce Wayne and Ra's al Ghul from Batman Begins. They were virtually friends, and some of the film's most satisfying scenes came from their conversations. Both of their motivations made complete sense, allowing ample opportunity for compare/contrast, and Neeson's understated performance was immaculate. He spoke quietly when he wanted to, and f'ed you up when he didn't. That seems like what this movie was going for and failed at.

@@arc4859 i actually don't know what you're talking about. Slavery/Jim Crowe/Lynching/Redlining etc is recent history. There are people alive today who experienced these things. And in the face of this, the conflict of the film is dialogue between a representation of the diaspora, and a representation of the mother country, not with white people. Besides which, if they actually did rehash and showed say police brutality, or jim crowe or something else, wouldn't you argue wokeness too? So what are you saying, that, in the marvel universe which-unlike the DC universe-is supposed to reflect the real world, that actual historical events shouldn't even be mentioned because they make you uncomfortable? Again the dialogue was between Black people and Africans. Whatever assertion of wokeness is coming from your own conscience.
I didn't connect with him at all. Sure he was upset about his father's death and he did make good points about African Americans, but he didn't really care about his people or his rich culture. He killed his girlfriend like nothing. He only wanted to use Wakandan weapons to take control of the world, spread his hatred and bitterness. That gets revealed before his demise. So many people were woke, but forgot that he was a mass murderer that likely took away the same things that he lost all around the world, but black lives matter more.
____ Dayal Yeah back 60 years ago when America passed the civil rights act. Killmonger never would’ve experienced systematic racism.
Multiple times, Killmonger talked about killing the “oppressors”. That only means one thing in present society. This was about white people.
It’d have been nice to see why he hates white people. We’re only shown why he hates Wakanda, and even then, he doesn’t hate them for killing his dad. He only hates them for not helping “oppressed” people, which is never shown. Like I said, you need your own wokeness to fill in the gaps.

He very likely never adopted the mask of changing his vocabulary because his character doesn’t give a shit about fitting that mold or making people comfortable. He definitely should have been fleshed out more. He never said he hates white people he said is angry with wakanda because they did not help when they were taken or put into ghettos in America when they very well could have. So he’s angry as oppressors(not all white people, just people who uphold that oppression) AND wakanda and his uncle for taking his father. Who had the same beliefs as him because he most likely instilled that in him at a young age. So that’s where those come from. He should have lived I agree.

Whilst I respect your opinion, I disagree with this some points made on this video. I’ll respond to each points why.
The acting - I personally the acting is a subjective choice of whether you like it or not. Some people enjoy that style of acting whereas some don’t which is fine.
Relationship - This point I do somewhat agree with you because I do believe Killmonger should’ve lived. However it remains to be seen what happens in the sequels. But one thing I feel you ignore is T’Challa’s arc in the movie. He begins the movie being thrusted the role of King which he does not feel he’s ready for. And he’s someone who views his father as the perfect king and he believes he can never reach the levels of his father. However Killmonger is a representation of the flaws of T’Challa’s father. Killmonger is proof to T’Challa that perhaps his father is not this perfect king and the fact that Killmonger is essentially created by T’Challa’s father is what changes T’Challa. The movie is essentially T’Challa challenging Wakanda’s past because Wakanda’s past caused Killmonger to be the way he is. And it allowed T’Challa to see that his father was only human and made mistakes, so T’Challa will learn from them.
Motivations - I feel you miss out that Killmonger experienced the death of his father at a very young age. It’s mentioned in the movie I believe that he’s had this anger within him ever since his father died. And you have to imagine, someone at a very young age who sees his father death won’t be able to comprehend what just happened. It’s not like at that moment he was thinking “oh this is Wakanda’s fault”. He would be blaming the world and the universe for taking his father away from him. And because he’s been instilled with this anger since such a young age, his mindset has not changed so in a way, he is still that same young boy. And in terms of what he wants to do with Wakanda, once again it’s mentioned in the movie that Killmonger is part of the military, so he’s got that mindset of conquering. And you can imagine someone at a very young age is angry and is growing up at a time where racial tensions is high. I understand that perhaps that you would want to see Killmongers childhood but from what we know about the racial tensions in America, it’s sometimes better to make the assumption I feel. And you forget, this motivation was the exact same motivation his father had. So he wants to carry that out as well.

My only problem with killmonger, which stopped him from being a great villain, on par with Thanos, was his actions.
His motivation, starting a war, by giving one side access to incredible technology, indiscriminately, would lead to the wholesale death of innocent people, probably from both sides. It makes sense to him, because of the oppression governments have placed upon his people, the world over. Much like Thanos though, he cannot see the insanity of it. Once he wins the war, what then would he do to the people he vocalizes as "oppressors?" Who would he call oppressors? The innocentd, who might be ignorant, but never outright hurt or subjugated anyone, would then be crushed beneath the boot heel he whole cloth resents their ancestors for. If it had been just this, that was his whole driving force, he'd be a villain on the level of Thanos. You can sympathize, because of the history of oppression surrounding black people around the world. He just, views the solution through a narrow lens, that won't let him hear of any other way.
What ruins this, all of it. Is his need for personal power. He becomes the black panther, then burns the flowers, because... Plot. In universe, it's so HE is the last one, with all the power. Why? That flies in the face of his motivations! He wants those he perceives as his people, to finally be free... Yet chooses to gatekeep a power that if not the world, but his people, could benefit from?!
It takes someone who could have been an IW Thanos level villain, and makes it look like he's a shallow bad guy, utilizing his charismatic cause to grandstand personal power.
Really killed it for me.
"yall some bitches" - the killmonger in my soul
Didn't Thanos abandon his entire core mission and decide to just kill the whole universe? Thats more selfish than even Killmonger, at least he was sticking to his plan to arm people around the world, his selfishness didn't stop his overall plan, it was just stuff he did on the side.
Thanos on the other hand...
Different thanos

Thoron Neto Kilmonger is a traumatized psychopath. Of course his actions are going to come off as contradictory and senseless.
Kilmonger wants to liberate black people, but he also hates Wakanda, their traditions, and what they stand for.
Also, remember what Ross said.
He said Kilmonger was doing what the military trained him to do, inflitrate, dismantle, and destroy.
He, much like Ultron, didn't understand the difference between saving and destroying the people.

2018 started with “Black Panther”
2019 started with “Captain Marvel”
And yet so many people kept shouting how these movies are doing something never done before. I watched both and thought they were super predictable and boring af. The political messages were so heavily forced and over done. I honestly think people give Marvel films way too much appreciation than they should get
Heisenberg II ok I’m sorry for liking stuff
Endgame was phenomenal
I didnt like captain marvel too much but I hella enjoyed black panther.
There isn't a political message in Captain Marvel. Just admit it, you don't like the fact that they made a woman a powerful superhero. Disney isn't pushing some conspiracy to destroy white men. They add diverse characters because they know it brings more people to theaters. Check the fucking box office numbers.
I disagree with your analysis on Michael b Jordan's acting. You might not have felt affected but I felt moved when ever he spoke. Maybe it was because I related to the slang so much. I can remember enjoying listing to how different he sounded from everyone else around him when he was in Wakanda. He sounds exactly how me and the people around me sounds so ig maybe I can relate more thus feel "more affected."

Yea but people around you are just regular good people I'd assume, not people who killed hundreds without hesitation. Serkis' Character (Klaue) was way more intimidating than Jordan's.
I mean... do you remember the scene with N'Jobu (Killmonger's dad) talking about helping black people all over the world with Wakanda technology...? Doesn't it seem like that would be Killmonger's motivation as well after he found out the truth about his father's death (We can assume he finds out because of his extensive knowledge of Wakanda in the museum scene) ? Killmonger probably would've liked to kill his father's murderer too but took pleasure in taking revenge against the son (T'Challa). He wouldn't get revenge on Wakanda itself, Killmonger would use Wakanda and it's resources to fullfil his father's dream of helping oppressed black people.
That's the motivation the way I saw it, it seems obvious to me if you pay attention to the movie lol.
Ur 100% right about that. Killmonger didnt just want revenge for his father's death but to also accomplish what his father was trying to do which is help black people all over the world fight oppression.
@@getoffmyacc9416 Yeah you could argue that. I was talking about the Motivation for his plan, not the actual plan itself. I am pointing out that this UA-camr cant see the well constructed Motivation laid out to inspire Killmonger to act the way he does.
I would argue that the script for when Killmonger was executing his plan did not make a lot of sense when broke out the guy with the bionic arm and not killed him immediately after he broke him out. But I think everything after and before that made sense.
Kill monger in the movie wanted black people on top. In the comics it’s worse he wanted to kill all non Africans and make POC the only thing around. He is a black supremest.
@@tsbredlight9481 I suppose that's what would have happened eventually if Killmonger succeeded. Just like how if Hydra took over it would eventually be like Nazi's trying to put White Aryan people on top.
However, because these movies are made for a very large public audience, none of these comic book movies ever will ever go beyond making only subtle references to real world hate groups/organizations. That's why Killmonger mostly focuses on the issues of Black inequality and using Wakanda's resources to help black people. That's why Hydra doesn't outright say "we need to keep white people on top" and instead focuses on taking over society from the shadows and gain control of the entire planet.
I personally like how movies and art will try to take influences from history and real world problems and create something completely different that makes me care or re-evaulate how I feel/think about different topics. What kind of black villain would help you empathize with his motivations but disagree with his methods? How do you make an entertaining action movie that also helps you empathize with Black people and the unique problems they face in society? Would you prefer these kinds of stories not to be told at all or do you want people to try and hope they succeed?
I think he just upset that motives that Killmonger had for the movie isn’t the same motivations he had for the comics because the way he suggested Killmonger’s motivations and character should been written was the same way he was in the comics.
I’m all here for hot takes. I like the music in the background too man. It’s a nice touch.
Killmonger the worst villan in mcu
Mandarin : Am i a joke to you .
5:17 I thought this “suit up” was so cheesy I almost busted out laughing.
This is going to come across as rude but I honestly don't mean it in that way. I think you should go out and talk to more black people about the idea behind Killmonger. All of his motivations are pretty accurate and spot on when it comes to how young black Americans feel about the world sometimes (e.g. burn it all and start over). The acting was perfect in that, in the world, as a black man you have to act calm and collective despite the rage you may have on the inside of hundreds of years of discrimination that led to the disenfranchisement of your people.
I respect some of the things you said but overall you're dislike of the character is more of an issue of you not understanding the scope of black culture. Again I know that sounds like a backhand slap but it's honestly not.

X-men had some decent movies. Some people in this thread are stupid with their arguments but X-men movies are more accurate than MCU movies. And Magneto is a great villain because his motivations and ideals were ripped directly from the comics.
8:15 “We don’t even see why this motivation was created”
...It was literally his fathers mission and the reason why his father betrayed Wakanda and got killed by T’Challa’s father. Not only did racism impact his life in America, but fighting it was his father’s dying mission. I haven’t seen the movie since 2018 and I still remember them showing that lol
Yea he definitely has some tone deaf moments in his vid
@@shuckyducky3471 he's a fuckwit
That was his father's mission. Killmonger's mission is completely different and it doesn't show us his motivation
@@warfare1101 in what ways was his motives different? They literally both wanted to liberate oppressed peoples with the resources Wakanda has. Only difference in motive is Killmonger avenging his death too
I feel like he would've just taken revenge for his father, not take his father's mission on him. Cause it seemed like his father kept his mission a secret from his son. And well if you're a kid you most likely go to the police when your parent is dead. So whatever his father wrote down about his mission he probably never saw it. So basically no, he didn't have a good reason for his taking his fathers mission because he wouldn't know of it.
The reason you don't understand his response it's because you may not be from the place that he was perceived to grow up in the life that he was said to be given is the life of many people who look like him so we didn't see him as an empty character who should have been displaying more anger a lot of people saw themselves if they were given the opportunities in the power that he had . Killmonger grew up as an impoverished black kid in America , whilst also being part of old warrior race that is still very much so had connection to and also felt abandon ed by that same group of people because of the life he was forced to live after he was left behind. Also his father was killed for doing very similar things to himself so he was more so upset with wakanda for not understanding the life that himself and his father had lived but ultimately upset with the world for oppressing people who look like him !
He had potential but he was wasted.

JUST because they wanted to keep their precious alien space metal safe?
@@gottesurteil3201 what the fuck is wrong with you
@@jaketylenol the motive before killmonger was great. Wakanda was flawed, due to their protection for power and turning their back to others because of said protection and Killmonger wanted to change that.
PROBLEM was that the movie treated his motive as a cartoon villian. Instead of attempting to change Wakanda from inside and making inner conflict with T'Challa, he goes full "world took everything so revenge time".
Jephener Ben no, he didn’t. He wanted to take over wakanda and use its weapons to defend their people, because news flash, racism still exists. T’challa came to agree with the idea that wakanda should use their technology to help the WORLD as a whole, not just minorities.
He fundamentally changed T’challa’s world view.
