A show of hands of seeing Lisa guest star in one of Crunchy’s parody videos!
Yes!
Omg yes! A sourdough one!😂
I just learned something new today as I was introduced to the terms Crunchy, Silky and Scrunchy. It was a rabbit hole for sure. My motto has and will always be just be and do the best you can. Some days it will be enough and sometimes it won’t. I’m 61.😊
I had no idea about these words either. 😂 I’m 55.
I didn't know about these words either ❤
Im 35 and i had never heard them either haha but i dont have social media. Might be a social media thing 😂
@@ellenmelon88 Yeah..I only knew crunchy because my bestie lives online and has used it in conversations with me lol but the others? No clue!
You guys are lucky in a way because the "crunchy" lifestyle blends in better. When I was a new mom 96, 97 and 99, I was kinda made to feel guilty because I quit working, stayed home with my kids and cooked food. It would have been awesome to have content creators like yourselves to teach and encourage young moms and have creators laugh at ourselves as well as situations about all of it. So now at 48, I am doing the crunch. Unapologetically.
It’s true. My mom started having babies in ‘91 and pretty much never used her college degree. She wasn’t (and still isn’t) big into nutrition or non-toxic or anything, but she never did vaccinations and she didn’t take us to the doctor every time we sneezed. She took plenty of flak for those little things.
Yes we need to be unapologetically ourselves. Judgy people don’t get a vote.
Sounds like she used her degree. ❤@@Rosie_C
When Emily said that you have probably changed countless lives- I can confirm this. You have definitely been a HUGE inspiration and teacher for me. My family is healthier now and I feel like I can be a better homemaker because of your content. Thank you. 💛
Love that!
My two favorite people on UA-cam in one place!❤️ the perfect podcast!!!
I was going to say the exact same thing!
Yesss!!!!
I didn't know I was crunchy light. I just felt I was being lead by the Lord to stay home, have lots of kids, home birth, home school, not vaccinate, cook, and pray. I love how we label everything now. Crunchy mom is what we used to call a homemaker.
true
Agree 😊
I’m a grandmother and I saw a bit of myself in some of Emily videos and they make me laugh and they are a cautionary tale to not offend but be gracious. They are so funny to watch and they - both Lisa and Emily - are so gentle and strong. OH, and I just ordered Frownies because why not ?!
WOW!! I didn’t know that I was crunchy! But I’ve been crunchy since before it was defined! lol I homeschooled, my boys played outside unrestricted we ate home grown and preserved food and made from scratch meals and treats. I was even using cloth shopping bags before it was a “thing” to do. And the boys rarely got “bored “ and screen time wasn’t an issue because there was always something to so outside. One winter they made “mudmen” because the snow had melted!
I so enjoy your videos you are such an inspiration to young families now.
Thank you and have a blessed day 🙏
Thanks for sharing!
I screamed when I saw both of your faces! Can't wait to hear this!!!
I keep hitting the jackpot. First, Emily and Abbey, now here with Lisa! They both have been so good.
Scrunchy teen here!! I love watching Emily’s videos and this podcast was very cool.
thanks for tuning in!!
Two of my favorite people and totally enjoyed this conversation! Except for the nagging thought in my head thru this whole video- The most serious/ important thing of it all…we shouldn’t have to be so stressed over the air we breathe the food we eat the water we drink- Rich or poor left or right we All deserve to not be poisoned !
You are right
This is what bothers me too. And it's a mixed bag....some pollutants are of nefarious origins, others beg the question of ethics when it comes to how something is produced (treatment of employees, or even slave labor), and others our of plain ignorance. I don't know about your faith, but if we had Biblical laws, those who harm other peoples' property, steal, or are not truthful would be held accountable.
Some people are just too sensitive about EVERYTHING! My husband and I call them snowflakes. We blow off all of it. Opinions are like butt holes, everyone's got 1. If you don't like what you're seeing or hearing , turn off the program. Weather it's utube, tv, radio, etc. And by the way ladies, this conversation y'all are having is great! Lisa, I have been watching for a long time. Your sisters too. I have NEVER been offended by anything you've said or done. I also appreciate your videos where you answer questions. I love real people being real. 😊❤
This is by far my favorite podcast episode ever!
I TOTALLY geeked out about this episode!!! Loved it! Thank you ladies - this is a topic we really need. There is sooooo much already to stress about that when we stress about every.little.thing….yikes! No wonder anxiety is even higher over all today.
I definitely need all of this - especially the last half hour as a newbie content creator. Thank you so much Lisa and Emily!
I love this!! Her first viral video coke mom at the party was the first one I saw, and I was hooked! This is so good to see you two together, 80/20 has been my thing for the past 15 years, at least, but in recent years I have had a lot of stress and relationship problems with my family who are definitely on the silky side! It was so stressful and causing me and my kids so much more harm than allowing the sugar or dyes from them, and that's pretty much been my 20! I had to switch my perspective and be the one who makes my family whole healthy foods and treats too from sourdough etc. Let my family members mostly be the 20 for my health and better relationships, which are so much more important. Her recent video about Granndpa and the dumdum.. and the secret.. really relatable, when we're too strict, then the secrets and lies start, Emily's videos have really helped me and so many others! I'm buying her book now, cant wait to read it!
There's a season of being in new mom stage when God has provided convenience for us as a grace to help us through so feel grace and humility to receive God's helping hand in our time of need.
Leah
My 2 favourite UA-camrs together in one place, this couldn't be better!
the crossover we didn't know we needed! What a pleasant surpise this was 😁
I don't know how I missed this !!! My two favorite women in one place?!!?! Heck yeah!
I too learned new terms today, I'm 77 and didn't know I'm half crunchy. I laughed so hard, this was a super dee dooper podcast.!
I have never clicked a video so fast!!❤
Agree!! What a great combination and total surprise! I think Lisa mentioned it months back, but yay it's here!
Possibly the best Simple Farmhouse Life Podcast episode ever!
Canned green beans and canned carrots do have nutritional value. It’s far more then not eating any vegetables unless it’s growing season and you can eat them fresh out of the garden. That’s where canned veggies started! Preserve your veggies so that you can still eat some during winter!😁 so it was a wise choice for your grandma back in the day.
Cannot wait to listen to this one! Two of my favorites in one place!
48:24 Oh, I know you’ve changed lives, Emily! 😊 I’m very passionate and opinionated about life, and I care deeply for those around me, and your skits and book and interviews have helped me keep friends! 😂
And you’ve changed one young life - a young friend borrowed your book from me and the info on red dye greatly impacted her. She and her family aren’t very crunchy at all, but she refuses to consume red dye now, to the point that her mother was exasperated with me for lending them the book. 🤣
I thought the crunchy Mum did her formula feeding video very well. I had to formula feed my first because I was too ill to full time breast feed. I found she was very understanding.
good to hear there is more ways to hear from Emily. And I find it interesting that we both had soy. I'm not sure if it was formula or milk, for the first years of my life too.
Yay! My two favorite ladies! Thank yall for what you do!
This is the first I'm hearing about this Very Crunchy channel and Oh my goodness, this is the funniest stuff I've heard in so long! SO RELATABLE. THANK YOU EMILY AND LISA!!!
I was just thinking about you two doing a podcast together! I knew it was in the making, so excited for this!
Id like to know more about the well-visits because now with my third kido, I'm just like "why"? Why am I still doing this? Is it all about the vaccines, because well, we dont vaccinate.
And I loved listening to you two chat. Love both of you!
Love this ladies! The one you just did about Tiffany, I laughed so hard sent it to my husband saying I long to be Tiffany! Lol so funny I just love your humor!!! So glad you touched on balance because boy it is so easy to go over board and suck the fun right out of life. Homesteading homeschooling mom of soon to be 5, sending you both so much gratitude!!!
I should probably continue watching the full episode and read Emily's book before commenting... I just wanted to say that one of my biggest crunchy pet peeves is the strong perfumes/scents. When I smell laundry detergent, perfume, or car/air fresheners that are just way too strong it really makes me upset. And specifically with my gma. I love her and we see her with my 2 kids every week, but when she comes over her scents linger for days around our house and I don't want to upset her, but I also want to tell her. Idk what to do!
I’m very sensitive to those smells too. Usually a simmer pot on the stove or a homemade EO spray with citrus helps (lemon especially), for me.
Coffee can pull scents from the air. Or maybe just tell her that you are finding that scents cause you issues and while your figuring it out, can she try to not use scented items when she is comming over. Its unlikly that she will do away with most, but maybe some. She probabaly doesnt have a clue that some are even there. People are so over consumed
I have become more and more sensitive to artificial fragrances with each pregnancy. I get headaches pretty quickly if I'm around heavy scents. I also don't know how to approach this topic because I don't want to overstep and tell people what to do, but I also don't want to deal with a migraine.
Omg this! My husband's dad comes over with all the aftershave in the world on and we always have to bathe the baby as soon as he leaves and i can still smell it for days! 😣
Yep! My mom tries not to light candles when I come over anymore, but I still am overwhelmed at her house sometimes. I was having a great conversation with her just a few days ago, but I was sitting near the laundry room and it was all I could do to not gag.
This is the collab the internet has been waiting for!!
I recently started only wearing natural fibers recently and I love it, but it's hard sometimes, especially in bras. I also struggle because I'm very petite, 4'11". I always struggle with finding clothes that fit.
I just saw the one about the garden hose and boy oh boy new anxiety unlocked 😂
How am I just now seeing this video?! Two of my favorite youtubers in one video. YES!!
I love how, even as you and I have been moms around the same time, we were like "pioneer crunchy" moms. Like, I was using a diaper service for cloth diapers before they sold all the cool cloth diapers, I was all into sustainable products which were so hard to find and people were confused by my anti-plastic outlook haha. Now it is more "normal" haha.
The other day, I caught my mom heating food in a plastic container in a microwave. I've been yelling at her to stop doing that since the early 1990s and she still goes, "Oops! I forgot!!" I haven't owned a microwave in a decade or more now myself haha. I saw Emily's book on Goodreads being read by a friend and did not put together that THIS is the author until she showed her book. I love that!!!!!!!!! I definitely want to read it now. Thanks for the conversation and the fun.
I am the same as you, with being serious. I am silly but I am very serious too. I always struggled to do imagination-based play. I'll read books to them and enjoy nature with them, but pretending and stuff. . .I can't. haha.
That was wonderful! You ladies are lovely human beings! Thank you ❤
What an enjoyable listen! Thanks ladies!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Lisa, you changed me life in a sort of retrospective way…. I watched all your birth stories while pregnant with my first. I remember hearing of your car birth and thinking, “there’s NO WAY!” And then two years later, my second, my son, was born in the car 😂
Haha...it can happen that's for sure!
What a fun combo - you girls are great! Can’t wait to hear the whole podcast!
This was everything I had hoped it would be! Such a great episode, two of my favorite internet personalities!
I love watching both you and Emily! What a treat to get you both together!
Soooooo WONDERFUL!!! Great topic!! I need to relax 😅❤
Totally didn’t expect this combo!
I really enjoy both of you ladies and your content. Y’all are my go to. I’m still trying to make a good sourdough bread ha! 🥴🤣
The Earthly content is hilarious!
I'm the same with the trampoline. Like I won't stay at a hotel because I think about thousands of people sleeping on that mattress and touching the remote and everything else.😂 If I have to, I've taken my sheets and my little mattress vacuum🤦♀️. I'm not a crunchy fanatic at all, though, just the hotel mostly.
My in laws found out I don't like my kids having sugar. They use every opportunity to shove it on them and it's excessive. Like Everytime we see them. They are always pushing back on it and am having to put my foot down in the most uncomfortable situations. It's so annoying
UGH. YES. Especially after having c■■cer 6 years ago, I definitely want to get rid of garbage food...especially sugars. MIL was all ohhhhh come ooooon you have to have cake for birthdays....Like, no, Mom, we don't. My BFF is like that too but not as bad.
I loved this! You are two of my favorites that watch regularly. My favorite skit of Emily's was her sourdough skit, hillarious!!! Thank you for all the wonderful videos!
Two of my favorite content creators 😊 nice podcast to start the day
Glad you enjoy it!
Literally made my day !
Highly enjoyable interview. Thank you, ladies ❤
Two of my favourite UA-cam people! Can't wait to watch!!❤
I havent even watched this yet and I am super excited!!
The older I get the more I'm learning how stress will make you sicker than almost anything else.
Ooo I love her and her videos! 😊 Calling us all out or exposing some ridiculousness. 😂 I love people that laugh at themselves. But also that we all have things we individually focus on at any given moment.... Because we can't do it all the same way. 😁
You both are awesome, keep up the good work!! 😂😁👍
Yeah I bet vaccines are another super controversial topic
I think that's what she was referring to as 'well visits'.
@LittleWayChoir ohh sure I bet you're right!
I learned a new word today 😊 I am crunchy! Thank you 😊
You are both amazing! I am so thankful to be part of this community!
thanks for listening!
Been wondering when this duo would happen 😍
The first time I saw really very crunchy I thought she was making fun of you lisa and I was upset but now I know she is a crunchy mom I'm glad you are having her on your channel
I know it's not really the kind of thing that you have a lot of experience with, but I would love for you to have a guest on that speaks about this lifestyle but in th context of having an only child. For example, how to homeschool an only child and how that differs from a big family, how to foster independent play with an only child etc. Homemaking eith an only child. I love your content but find that I don't know how a lot of the childraising advice would apply to an only child scenario. Just a suggestion. She reminded me about this when she was talking about how her kids are great at independent play...they just go out into the woods and play with eachother. Thats so great but with an only thats not really an option so Id love to have someone on that talks about this but in the context of a similar home-steading/ simple lifestyle. Thanks!
Emily, laughter is good medicine.
Lisa That soy formula was so expensive too. Nobody wanted there baby to need that. We did not know these things in the 1980's. Most mothers at that time used plastic bottles and warmed them up in the microwave.
I've been looking forward to this video for ages!
What is it the compost from the city? I didn’t hear the other podcast.
So there’s the issue of the homemade custard ice cream recipe… 😂 🍨
Yes, I was looking for it as well!
I am somewhat scrunchy... probably really very crunchy when compared to regular silkies. 😂
Yay, Lisa! Very happy to hear you two talk :)
Wow this is exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The elderly people who live a long time have who may not have been so health conscious had a good genetic predisposition and constitution.
So today I learned new words: crunchy, frownie..🤣🤣🤣
Btw, you are a blessing Lisa. 😊
thank you!
Yes! Post this workout!
I’ve been waiting for this!!!!!
Wait.... Disposable floss?? You mean there's reusable floss?!?! 😮
It’s probably floss that degrades so it’s not in the landfill forever.
@@ancientinquirer7550 But what's it made of? Just because it "degrades" doesn't mean it's actually GONE...
I struggle so much moving my family over to a healthier lifestyle. I have many health and mental health issues that would be positively impacted by this switch, and I feel stuck in a cycle. I'm constantly tired, and pushing myself to do more seems like torture. But doing more, such as using less processed foods, making more made from scratch things, switching over to reusable food storage items - these things all take more time.
I feel like such a looser and a crybaby because I'm not pushing myself harder.
Gosh, I don't even know where I'm going with this anymore...
Do you have any tips for people who struggle with changing to a crunchy lifestyle?
Oh I know the exact feeling!!! It takes a while to purge your system. Have you ever heard of Shauna Holman’s book? I borrowed it from the library, then got my own copy. It really helped me relax and accept that it’s not an overnight process. I’m 3 years in and still have struggles and changes I need to make, but the results motivate me to not quit! Just Ingredients podcast has awesome advice, as well. Her story of healing from mental and physical health issues is encouraging and helpful.
Also, if I can encourage you, it’s normal to have a troubled mind when your body is struggling. It’s an awesome way our system informs us that something is wrong! I’ve chosen to embrace that rather than beat myself up. 💛
Just tell yourself I can do hard things and start one thing at a time. You can't do them all at once. Then keep adding more good things you will eventually get there.
Maybe find the one thing that you would like to change the most or that you think would make the most impact and implement that one change and once you have stuck with that for several months and it feels easy to you, pick the next thing etc. Slowly changing the things you want to change and not worrying about the rest.
I really enjoyed this conversation!
Glad to hear that...thanks for listening!
Great conversation! Thank you 😂
Glad you enjoyed it!
That would be a great skit- you hiding from fans at non-crunchy places 😂
You were going to link that recipe. It's not here.
joyfoodsunshine.com/chocolate-ice-cream/#wprm-recipe-container-23092
Thank you thank you thank you! 😊 ❤
I've never clicked faster ❤
You both have green walls. Me too 😅
My hubby is not on board with anything that costs money. I do have a garden, and organic is cheaper. LOL😂
Survivors bias is a huge thing when it comes to certain things though.
Polyester, , not sure,, I was born 67. And it was around before I was 3.😊❤
What are y'alls names missed it.
So, I’m pretty careful, but I do buy toxin things occasionally for hard core work… so I’m just over here cleaning my house with bleach…😂
What is crunchy?
Are you “gentle parenting” too?
I promise, if you remove a child from their grandparents over suckers, you will entirely lose your kids as teenagers. You can't be that controlling.
Omg the soy formula. I am glad you are doing fine now.
Yes I am!
I have 8 kids and we homeschool. And while I make everything from scratch, and try to buy undies and things within reason that are natural fibers, and grow food in a small town garden…I’m not rich. And am not about to break the bank to make every single thing perfect. 🤷🏻♀️ Balance is good :)
Being crunchy can be an idol if you allow it to consume you and ruin your relationships with people who don’t cook food your way etc. i learned that the hard way years ago at the beginning of my marriage! I do my best for my family, but when I’m around others or at their house, it’s not a concern for me anymore. Because that isn’t the reason we were put on earth.
Whole Foods are a good tool for caring for our bodies and serving The Lord better and our families. Healthy decisions are good to serve us, but poor masters.
I have been my version of crunchy for over 16 years, so I absolutely relate to the idea of “I’m on the other side of this.” It is mind-boggling to see the seeming idol of “health” that the community becomes, but this is SOOOO why I think conversations like this are imperative. You can’t focus on ALLLLL of the broken things of this world and maintain mental and emotional health, which is JUST as important as the physical health. I found my balance long ago and I’m so thankful for focusing more on healthy stewardship rather than control. ❤️
I love that you also addressed “expensive crunchy.” This was a big thing we needed to deal with years ago. I have now 8 kids and there’s no way we can afford all organic. So, we do what we can with what we have, try to follow the dirty dozen, and give the rest to God. Such great points in this convo! Great work, ladies!
Thank you for sharing!
Romans 14:23 NKJV
[23] But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin.
Ask the Lord to bless your food, etc and believe in His word that he will protect you from harmful things. Then do the best you can, and eat in faith!
I think the thing with McDonalds is the Supersize Me documentary- hearing that one burger comes from the meat of 100 cows (or something like that) was jarring to hear😆 and Lisa, when people comment about the lack of kids in the videos etc, I just think “can you have a 20 min long conversation on the phone with a friend without interruption?” They’d likely say no, but also, that’s not their jobbbb😅 people are silly.
Re Mc Donald's - I don't get what you said, that the meat comes from 100 cows? Like, the minced meat is made REALLY big scale - that would make sense, it being MC Donald's - but I also think that would be the same for any of the big fast food chains...?
This made me feel so much better as a young mom who wants to make "cleaner" decisions for my family, but stresses with all the information on the internet about our foods. That stresses me out to the max plus the budget to be crunchy does not go with my lifestyle lol. I've been watching Emily's videos for a long time and I finally found the answer if how crunchy she is lol! It's so nice to see a behind the scenes look for both of you.
WOW I was not expecting to see these two together 😂 How surprising and fun!
