My mom has a GE oven, probably from the late 90s. Electric. Broiler is coming on when selecting bake. No bake bottom heat. Just broiler for some reason.
It is NORMAL for the Broil (top) element to come on when the oven is set to BAKE. This guy doesn't seem to know how an oven works. Both elements (top and bottom) come on when the oven is set to BAKE to quickly bring the oven up to the temperature that is set. Either a temperature probe or thermostat bulb in the oven controls the cycling of the elements to keep the proper temperature set. An older stove is more apt to have the bulb style and newer will be temperature probe. This is another example of not trusting every video on YT!
@@KStewart-th4sk what I'm saying is, bake doesn't work at all anymore. Just the broil function. When you select bake, only the top broiling element goes on, the traditional bake element doesn't. It's broken. So we discovered this when we tried to bake something and it just got destroyed because the broil went on and annihilated it.
Having the same problem, however, my range has no control board, it’s all straight wired. I’m not getting 240 on my bake element I’m getting bout 60v and I did notice the bake element got very warm dam near hot to the touch but not heating up to full power, I traced 1 wire off the bake that goes to the thermostat, and the other goes up to my broil element which then travels to the thermostat. Broil element has 240, thermostat is new, I replaced that yesterday, any assistance would be greatly appreciated
SAY WHAT! When selecting BAKE, BOTH top and bottom elements should be coming on. That's normal because you sure aren't depending on the bottom element only to quickly bring the oven up to baking temperature! Both elements work together to do that. You don't seem to know how the oven functions with that title you gave this video. It's NORMAL for the "broil element" to come on too, with the stove oven set to BAKE. Setting the oven to BROIL should only turn on the top element of course.
What about when you select bake on the range and control board send voltage to the broil element but does not send voltage to bake element? What would cause that issue?
