    Like the Briggs V-Twin engines. I have one on my personal machine. Only issue I’ve had is the valve guides have a tendency to move in the heads which can lead to the push rods coming off into the crank case. If you maintain them properly though they will run forever.

    • @mikespain8655
      @mikespain8655 16 днів тому

      Valve guides moving is normally because of overheating. Overheating normally due to blocked cooling fins and dirty top engine. Blocked cooling fins and dirty top of engine because the engine shroud has not been removed and checked from lack of maintenance. So Briggs is not at fault, the owner or repair shop is for neglecting maintenance.

    I’ve been using a fuel stabilizer in my John Deere X300 since 2010 when I put it away in the winter and have never had a problem starting it in the spring. When you use a shut off, there will still be some fuel left in the bowl that can go bad. Here in Canada all fuels have the same percentage of ethanol where over a year ago only premium was ethanol free. My machine runs fine on 87 so I use it, plus it’s cheaper. BUT I’m also using Ethanol Shield from Home Depot in my small engine machines fuel jug to combat the water that can form from using ethanol fuel.

    Thank you Donny! Nice clear video as always.
    I'm just stunned how few people realize the importance of good "Carb Care"!! Meaning.....
    * ALWAYS use Top-Tier Certified Ethanol-FREE Premium whenever possible.
    * SHELL V-power Premium is a very good one!
    * My fave Fuel-stabilizer is Seafoam. I've bought a lot of it over the years.
    * I add it to our Cars' fuel AND Oil before an O/C.
    * I leave fuel IN the tank/Carbs during storage. I add extra SF to about a 1/3 full tank, run for 5mins, then shut it off for the winter months.
    * Have never had an issue with dried-out gaskets, etc.

    One thing I have started doing is to draw, somewhere near the gas valve an illustration of off and on. There is nothing worse than getting a call that the engine won't start and the issue is that the gas valve is still in the off position.

    Great video Donny!
    Just did this on my LX277, new oem carb was like $280.00 MeriKan. Took the old carb off and tried cleaning it, but somebody was in it before me and stripped the threads that the main jet and emulsion tube screw into carb with; not the heads on the jets themselves and when I put it back together, apparently the main jet, although bottomed out, wasn't installed all the way and the carb wouldn't pick up any gas from the bowl. Couldn't rebuild the old carb because of the damage. Now the thing runs like new.

    Just an fyi about ethanol in Ontario anyway: when you could get “no ethanol” gas it was only 91 grade - surprisingly premium had up to 10%. And only Shell, PetroCan and Canadian Tire. This was last year and I checked with all of them (through customer service) about the availability. This year looks like even those three chains will no longer carry ethanol free fuel.

    My buddy has one of these Vtwins with that crazy carb/manifold set up, it was surging. I foolishly took the carb bowl off without removing that crazy plastic manifold, regretted that decision. Took a few attempt to get it assembled correctly. I was afraid of touching that cheesy plastic manifold and having it warp and never seal properly...Didn't realize it has orings instead of gaskets, that makes a big difference.
    So many people seem to be replacing dirty carbs with the cheap amazon "fits all replacement carbs", this is a mistake. That stuff is "inexpensive" for a reason, probably isn't gonna fit or work right, and the gas chews em up pretty quick. Most carbs carbs be easily cleaned, except for this crazy set up. So, if you choose to replace the carburetor, it is best to spend the big bucks and use the exact OEM replacement.

    Have you ever run into problems with those plastic fuel shut-off valves?
    I have found them to leak over time, but that was with gravity-fed delivery systems. Not ones with fuel pumps like on that Briggs.

    That engine is surging like a race horse in heat! You don't want to get a clog in your idle jet, ya aint having happy fun times like that. I always found getting those Briggs twin-berrel carbs harder to get off the engine, plus I hated those bowl screws instead of bolts. Just hold the end of the intake horn to your mouth, and then say, reeekolaaa! That carb throat looks like a set of binoculars don't it? lol I call that the reach around choker. Good job on this one, these Niki's can be tricky, yes I say their tricky, as in they annoy the hell outta me, their tricky, their tricky. Lining up holes could be a Saturday activity, but for Briggs, its a lifetime commitment.

Then after that work on the Kohler command 22 to settle its none charging problem

    Got a question for you regarding lubrication of the spindles on any riding lawn mower. Mine is a JD130. Is it really necessary to inject grease into the entire spindle shaft OR can one simply pop out the bearings, lubricate and re-install? Is grease actually necessary for the spindle shaft? Yes, this is a hot topic on UA-cam about greasing the bearings through the zerk througb the shaft. The ultimate target of the grease is lubrication of the bearings. So, does it do anything for tbe shaft? Fair question. Keep pumping out those videos. Your channel is probably the best. Thanks. 🇨🇦🍻

    • @donyboy73
      @donyboy73  7 днів тому

      The grease might eventually get through the sealed bearings but I wouldn't count on it. I replace spindles with grease in them and the bearings are shot. The best way it to take the seals off the bearings and then the grease will get in after when you grease through fitting.
