This fixed my issue on my 78 scwhinn road bike. Thank you
You are very welcome!
You are very welcome and I am glad you found it helpful. Cheers.
Ivan
Glad to hear!
One thing that people overlook in cheaper bikes is the amount of the black cable protecting sleeve where the cables run inside. When you pull the cable this also moves so this could cause the back breaks being uneven. This only happens on the back breaks due to the distance needed. I have a bike where no matter what setup I did one side of the back brake always touched the rim when opened, and always on the side of the cable mount !!!. So I Zip tied the Black cable sleeve where it passes the Bike post socket and then no more brake touching the rim when opened. Always check this as you could setup your brakes fully and still have this problem. In my bike the reason why the Calipers were not centered was due to too much black sleeving so it was kinking the cable inside thus then pulling the right caliper ( viewed from back) towards the right side. 1 zip tie was all I needed.
That's exactly my problem thanks
Thank you!!! Almost gave up on new brakes. Thank you for your post. This was solution for my brakes!!!
Thanks for the tip! You helped me solve why my rear brake arms weren't centered. =)
Good job, thanks for the info.
Thanks, Ivan. I'm glad that you uploaded this repair. Appreciated. Cheers!
My pleasure!
Yes, that is correct.

I did it!! Thanks.
Hello from @TheCheapBikeChannel. I received a vintage Belgian bike in part-exchange, and had to check how to balance these type of brakes again, many thanks for the video. Greetings from Brussels
Thanks for commenting!
Met, looks like the caliper needs to be secured tight after being adjusted. Sounds if they adjusted it but left it lose. From your description, that is what it sounds like.
What do you do if the calliper is fine before you start cycling but when you're cycling it moves position and starts gripping the wheel?
I just brought my bike back from a bike shop yesterday where they serviced it but the calliper seems to be moving around way too much. I cycled for about 5 minutes and the brakes were rubbing against the tyre again. Is there a way of locking it in position so it won't keep moving about?
Thanks.

I was looking everywhere and finally found this video. I got my rear brake lever from not moving or affecting the brakes at all to actually closing them! The issue now seems that while the brakes do squeeze the rim, they don't seem to effectively stop the bike. It feels very weak (at least compared to my front brakes that stop on a dime). Am I missing something? The pads are making contact with the rims, but they just don't seem to be able to get a good grip on the wheel.
Your brake cable needs to have more tension to put more power on the pads to stop to bike.
@@IvansBikesBmws Thank you! I had a feeling that might be it, but I wanted to see if it could be anything else.
@@TheCurlyqz my pleasure. Always adjust cables to bite up your preferences.
cool vid thanks
Thanks for the kind words! Glad I was able to help!
If the brake caliper movement is not sloppy and appears to movement is good don't mess around with the dome nut, leave it alone all is need is to tap the top side of the spring near the center bolt on the side if there is lots of movement, sometimes on the low quality calipers the spring will need to have tension reloaded, this is done by releasing the spring then bend it by pulling it up wards, I've been a Bicycle Mechanic for well over 40 years, so to say I've been doing this for a very long time.
Yup! Good advise!
Thank you so much. Problem sorted for front and back brakes. New subscriber.
My pleasure Paul and thanks for subscribing!
Thanks for the video. Very helpful.
My pleasure
Liked the way you explained things well. 👍
Huge thanks Daniel! Cheers!
Brilliant, worked a treat thank you!
Yup they get sticky over the time when sitting. Thx
I try my best. Thanks for the kind comment!
You left the bolt too loose and all you did was move the problem from one side to the other !
You gotta play withbit until it is perfect. The bolt may look loose, but these never come off the way they sit .
Thanks for the help!
My pleasure
helpful
Thanks!
Subbed back and cheers. Love watching the small youtuber grow haha.
Thanks for the help man.
David my pleasure. Enjoy your bike!
If we loose it if we will stop the cycle means that nut can fall down
I put a link in the description for my affiliated amazon account where you guys can buy a good quality tool to do this. It saves you time and money by not visiting your local bike shop.
I have this same problem thanks this was very helpful
99% of vintage bikes got this issue.
@@IvansBikesBmws I bought a peugeot 501 frame with a carbolite fork which is completely chrome all parts are original even the toe clips say made in france, I think it's a 55cm or 54cm frame burgundy the guy who sold it to me said it used to belong to a friend of his family who used to race back in the day, the bike was garaged for many years then I bought it so I guess im the 3rd owner the bike is from 1986 or 1985 all parts are original I think this is once in a lifetime
@@GabrielLopez-nd5fc Seem like a nice bike. Congrats on the purchase!
