10 Most Hated Towns in the UK

- What are the most hated towns in the United Kingdom? Many towns in the United Kingdom are more developed with basic amenities than many places described as cities in some other countries. Thus, every town in the UK deserves some love. Still, the insatiable nature of man always craves more, even under the most convenient condition. Hence, some the UK towns are hated. We shall be unraveling here the 10 most hated towns in the UK.
Regardless of the passion or intensity of the frustration, the hatred shouldn’t be transferred to the persons living in those towns. It should be limited to the conditions making such towns unlivable and infuriating so that the concerned authorities can be called to order. Here are those 10 most hated towns in the UK.
10. Llangefni, Wales
We start our discussion of the most hated in the UK in Wales. Our first point of call is the Welsh town of Llangefni, the county town of Anglesey which also contains the principal offices of the Isle of Anglesey County Council. Llangefni is located near the center of Anglesey. It’s also on the River Cefni, from which it derives its name.
This county town and the second largest on the island is hated because it has only one thing going well for it, namely playing host to local government, enterprise, and industry. Social life and sports are not doing well in the town. And anytime it features in the news, it’s mostly for the wrong reasons.
9. Slough, England
Our entry to England to find most hated towns in the United Kingdom lands us in Slough. This town in Berkshire, within the historic county of Buckinghamshire, is our next point of call.
Its vantage location notwithstanding, Slough is one of the 10 most hated towns, not only in England but also in the entire UK. According to visitors, it’s a town whose streets are littered with empty takeaway and full of packets and empty beer cans. No single resident has ever contradicted this assertion. The quality of food in the town’s restaurants appears, kind of, made for losers who’re just out to eat as much unhealthy food as they can without paying for it.
8. Didcot, England
The next town on our list is Didcot, a railway town which is also a civil parish in the ceremonial county of Oxfordshire. Also in the historic county of Berkshire, Didcot is 15 miles south of Oxford and 10 miles east of Wantage. The town noted for its railway heritage is just 15 miles northwest of Reading, with its station opening as a junction on the Great Western Main Line back in 1844.
The town of Didcot has been described many times as the most aggressive town not only in England but also in the United Kingdom. Regardless of whatever any dissenter found about this town, it will boil down to the same thing-it's a hated town in the UK. Traveling through the station for which it’s known today will put you in confrontation with touts and gangs jumping onto passing trains.
7. Stevenage, England
Stevenage is another one of the most hated towns in the United Kingdom. It’s a large town which many won’t take any offense if it’s referred to as a city. It’s a borough in Hertfordshire, 29 miles north of London. It is east of junctions 7 and 8 of the A1(M). It is located between Letchworth Garden City and Welwyn Garden City to the north and south respectively.
Even at that, those in England hate this town because it’s far cry from what other towns in England have to offer. According to residents, greeting others with eye contact can be considered offensive in this town. Besides, there are a lot of fake brand names in Stevenage this town. A higher rate of pilferage is being reported in this town, even at the instance of the parents.

I really don't know how seriously I can take this. We start with somewhere in Wales no one has ever heard of, but we're expected to believe it's one of the 10 most hated in the UK? "It's hated because it's hated" seems to be the criteria used for most of them.
Never heard of Ryle? go back to school and listen in your geography lesson.
@@susancraybould3919 Isuggest that you read what Mr Tupolev said, again. He stated " we start with somewhere in Wales no one has ever heard of ". If you watch it again, you will see that he is referring to Llangefni - not Rhyl ( spelt ' Rhyl' , not 'Ryle' ). So my advise to you, before you tell others to " listen in their geography lesson " is : 1. listen properly to the information being imparted. 2. Learn how to spell : the town to which you refer is spelt 'Rhyl', not ' Ryle'. 3. Realise that you are not that smart, go back to school yourself and learn some humility.
I was ok in places in the Australian Outback , depends on who you meet and how u adjust to it
Luton… how sad. I was born there but left aged seven to go to Australia. My great grandfathers name is out on the war memorial. My son and his partner traveled to the UK In July and where advised not to stop there, just keek driving:
I enjoyed my visit to Dover (#2). It was a little noisy at night (but it was a weekend) and there was a chap shouting and swearing while climbing on a beach shelter at 6am, but the walks over the National Trust White Cliffs were most enjoyable.
Honestly this man is lying, dover is in no way worse than luton. Grimsby and Milton Keynes aren’t even on his bloody list. Dovers alright, I used to hate it then I went to Grimsby and realised that in comparison, dover is a paradise
V informative video enjoyed watching it hadn't realised there r most hated towns in UK
Not informative at all, made up bullshit more like.
Slough is a weird one. It's not a sh-thole per se and it's very conveniently located for London, but it just _feels_ bleak, sad, depressing etc. I didn't believe or appreciate it until I had to go there on a work commitment - even the automated announcement on the train from London dropped an octave and sounded depressed when it mentioned Slough.
It doesn't help that large parts of West London aren't very nice either, so all you see from the train is various crappy places.
How do they pick the places and who picks them.
Most hated by whom, though? And can you substantiate this?
Rotherham.
always worth a look, in my book before judgement! make up your own mind? what some like ,others dislike, having said that have you ever taken a look at "Oldbury" west midlands?? nuff said!!....😱😱😱.......
You missed Chatham Kent. Terrible place now.
It depends on perspective. What are the crimes rates, availability of jobs, town life, culture, or a balance between these things?
Having lived in Didcot for 25 years, including commuting by rail, I don't recognise "aggressive", or " touts and gangs". It's certainly not pretty, just an average town, it's not hated, but I don't suppose that any of the others are either.
Yeah Didcot is a fine place to live, the main complaint would be bad traffic and that fact you need a car to get around most of the time (provided you don’t have access to a bus stop). Pretty standard to be honest.
Sorry for laughing at you. Sorry for laughing at you.
Sorry for laughing at you. Sorry for laughing at you.
Corby must be the most hated town I am sure
Unusual list first place on your list I had to Google. 2nd natural entry of course 'come friendly bombs' and all that. Beyond that fairly haphazard list.
Didcot is on the most loved towns list as well alongside Stalybridge which came in at number 1.
If you ignore the endless brexit truck jams and some of the grottier housing estates, Dover's alright, there's plenty of nice things to see and do in the town (one of the best historic castles in the UK, for example); some nice parks (like Kearsney Abbey and the lakes) it's got a safe swimming beach, it's got amazing clifftop walks with great views over to France and even a reasonable selection of shops in the town centre and excellent public transport links. There are a lot worse places in Britain than Dover, believe me!
I was born and brought up in Luton, from ‘54. It was and still absolutely awful. In recent years I drew a close 2nd worst, when I had to stay in Walsall for a few years.
It is completely cultureless. Beer guts, tattoos and filthy litter are rank throughout the area. There is a very interesting art gallery in the town, but it is like giving strawberries to donkeys.
Yea Walsall is rough but West Bromwich is bad as well I don't feel safe in West Bromwich 👍
If its worse than Luton it must be dreadful!
Surprised with this list. Normally the most hated town or city is Bradford, another town that should be on the list is Dewsbury. Both can be described as cesspits
Bradford is a diverse city, a fantastic place with many of the population being generous and inviting, Dewsbury is yet an other diverse town where I’ve always been made to fell welcome when I visit
@@philmcchrystal1670 glass with wine and ecstasy and dog shit and ??
Luton. A dump if there ever was one. As for Rhyl, I don't mind it. It's one of those seasonal places that relies on tourism.
Paisley was lovely all stores moving out after Covid maybe it’ll be nice again
Llangefni looks like a nice enough place to me. Whats meant by 'hated' anyway? Why isn't Nuneaton on this list?
I live near Luton and certain parts of it are a dump.I know a police officer who won't allow his teenage daughters to visit the Arndale Centre, even if he accompanies them.( remember Rochdale,Rotherham and so on)
We first moved here in 1979 when the shopping centre was mostly used by smartly dressed, polite, well behaved people.Unfortunately 40 years of unchecked immigration has meant the more ambitious all moved out in disgust. The result is a mess of different people and most of them don't make an attempt at integrating into our ways.Parts of it are nice, but suffer from being close to the flight path of Luton Airport.
I spent a night in Luton a few months ago. The centre was a shock!
Again...it seems to be...pick a few nondescript towns out of the list...on the strength of rumour and cultural misconception...it seems to be put up by people who have no idea of British society
I lived near Aylesbury in one of the local villages and worked for the local council for a period of time, not that surprised.. there is actually nothing appealing about this apart from the roads out of it.. a commuter town
All talk and no full explanation why. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
Is this read by an AI or is it just very oddly stepped in its audio ? There seems to be a rhythm to it and the odd strange pronunciation.
What about Barrow - in - Furness.. Cumbria's place to put an enema.
Tilbury young man is in The Borough of Thurrock, not in Essex. Yes Thurrock is located in Essex, but is independent and not Essex.
How can anywone hate a town? There are towns everywhere which may not be as interesting as others but hate them? Dover? Beautiful town on a fantastic cliff.
I'm not familiar with any of the towns mentioned, but just about all of them looked pretty nice.
They looked great compared to my former place, in a old mining town. Depends what you're looking for?
Rhyl isn’t a hated town it has a lot of fin things
But I’m surprised Bradford isn’t on here
What’s wrong with slough
Interesting to see Stevenage ranked as number seven this is the town where a certain world champion driver came from and said he lived in the slums, is Lewis Hamilton.
Stevenage is horrible. It’s a miserable, grey place where people have no hope, no ambition, no future… it feels like a dumping ground. Hatfield is even worse though. Hemel Hempstead and Letchworth are also awful places in Hertfordshire
Margate and Swindon must be on here.
I don't mind Rhyl, they've done the promenade up and I love bodfor pub.
Aylesbury may be bad but it’s not that bad . There are worse places out there
where ever you go its not the place that is horrible....its the people
Did you actually say “specie” as the singular of species? Please attend some English classes.
I’m surprised you never mentioned Margate and Chatham and gillingham and Sittingbourne in kent not nice places to live nothing to do up there
Well researched jurnalism.
I hope that's sarcasm?
U for got Chatham and hernebay Stoke Newington
yup chatham is a miserable place.
Guy just wants a UA-cam channel.
The 3 to not ever set foot in: Slough, Luton and Gravesend.
Outside the list I’d add Bradford, Oldham from top of my head.
I thought Croydon,Surrey would feature.Soulless and sprawling with miserable office blocks everywhere.
Even more ridiculous than the "Most Loved Towns" list, which included such tedious places as Wilmslow and Altrincham. I wouldn't argue with such "usual suspects" as Luton and Rhyl, and I don't know Gravesend, but I don't recognise Llangefni, Didcot or Aylesbury from the descriptions. Paisley is effectively a Glasgow suburb, so looks to that city for things to do.
Llangefni only has 5000 people, for chrissake, so it's not going to have buzzing nightlife. Didcot is looked down on by the snobs in the rest of Oxon and Berks because it's working class, but I've waited ages at the station and not been approached by muggers, beggars or the like. Aylesbury is quite historic. These towns may be a bit dull, but I'd rather live in any of them rather than the endless suburban tedium of Wilmslow or Altrincham.
Gravesend has always been a dismal area for many years. It's name was derived from the Great Plague where thousands of the dead were buried there from London, hence Graves end. Also Princess Pocahontas is buried there.
And how come Croydon wasn't included, that town tops my list as dodgy, full of immigrants, and remember that African who burnt down that very old furniture shop? why did he do that?
I'd take all these places being 'the worst' with a large pinch of salt. I remember back in the 90s, Hythe, a small, rather pretty and inoffensive little town in Kent getting the 'worst place to live in Britain' sobriquet after a public survey. Probably the exact opposite is nearer the truth. I suspect local schoolkids had voted en masse to disrupt the survey!
Know where is as bad then West Bromwich Smethwick Walsall and Wolverhampton 👍
Why is Wisbech not on the list ?
It's lovely compared to Luton - believe me!!
@@museonfilm8919 I’m from Wisbech and I’ve only been through Luton. It does look very grey .
You could got to ANY town in the UK and be given the same information, even most cities too, do you get most of this information from Google? Or do you make it up, sure sounds like it could be a generic UK tourist tape of anywhere in the UK!
Maidstone should be on the list too. Hell hole!
Slough is in Berkshire.
Which muppet wrote this!
You forgot Harpenden.
I think that using the word " Hated" is unfair and incorrect - in fact you just use it as clickbait.
i'm not sure how hated Hollyhead is but it's the most depressing town I've been to
Holyhead*
Oh yes. I had to stay there overnight to catch a ferry to Ireland.
Holyhead was a depressing hole and mindblowingly awful even by Welsh standards. The hotel owners even said to just stay in because it wasn't safe and there was nothing to do.
I've been to Newport and some of the Valley towns - even those felt like Prague and Vienna compared to Holyhead. Holyhead is a whole different beast.
Holyhead is my mother's hometown and as a child I enjoyed our regular visits there but sadly it has indeed slipped into a sad and depressing place. I think the burghers missed a trick as it did have potential to become a fine holiday destination if marketed well. It also suffered when the new ferry port came into being as travellers to/from Ireland no longer visit the town in the numbers they once did.
The lack of Dudley suprises me.
Dont buy any used cars from Luton
Exeter as well
If you live outside the UK please take no notice of these things. Plenty of towns in Britain where buildings have trees growing out of them or burnt out. As a generalisation the South is far better kept because far more money is about. It actually is quite a lovely county for the most part but the worst parts are direfully neglect, left behind.
The North outside the urban areas is infinitely nicer. The South well-kept? I never saw anyone clean their windows when I lived in Leatherhead.
The South isn’t far better. There are nicer places in the North than some in the South each has good and bad
The south of England gets worse by the day! Some of the ugliest, run-down towns, terrible underfunded infrastructure, miserable locals… southern streets are paved with dog shit, not gold, in 2023
I went to Luton. Didn't stay long. I couldn't find anyone who spoke English.
Dartford I was advised not too go to Dartford Town after 8 pm
Geavesend looks nice from a distance.
WHAT RUBBISH.
Luton is well deserving of its place.
Believe it or not, Luton was actually middle class and very desirable back in the 1940s or thereabouts. It's the sort of place you might aspire to move to if you were comfortably off and wanted to leave London.
@@mxbx307 that was before all the foreigners arrived.uninvited.
''Touts and gangs jumping onto passing trains'' yeah that doesn't happen in the worst parts of south London let alone Oxfordshire
Batley,Dewsbury and keighley just to name a few
There is a common theme in towns like that, but you daren't say it. Same goes for Bradford and Rotherham.
@@mxbx307 I’ve never been to Rotherham, and I’ve been to Bradford I’ve never had any issue in Bradford
Try hounslow
best video
Burnley should be on here
Burnley has some terrific industrial architecture and is surrounded by beautiful countryside. There are far worse places. Have you been to Watford?
I wish Dareham was on the list
I live in the shithole called slough. As soon as I saw the video I knew we would be in it but it should be number ONE and not nine!!!
Slough and Luton are terrible, Gravesend, Stevenage and Didcot ain't great either. But I think High Wycombe is worse than Aylesbury
I once read about a Met Police officer who served in rough af. parts of North London including Tottenham and Edmonton (i.e. areas infested with road culture and gangs), but lived in Stevenage on cost grounds. He remarked that he felt safer at work than at home because Stevenage was such a hole.
Also went to university with a guy from Welwyn and had lived in Hatfield. I overheard him saying to someone else about two bouncers getting life for kicking a guy down some stairs, "that's Stevenage" he said.
A mate of mine also passed through High Wycombe and there were bullet holes in a public toilet cubicle door. Classy.
@@mxbx307 This is not surprising at all
@@mxbx307 there’s an uneasy air about Stevenage, like trouble could kick off any time. It’s not uncommon for gangs to start fighting in the bus station on a Sunday afternoon for instance.
Eye contact, smiles and basic manners are unknown in Stevenage. You just look at the floor and make as little contact as possible
Didcot isn't bad, certainly nothing like described in this video, it's just an ordinary modern town, not very picturesque but there's everything you need and contrary to what's suggested it's pretty safe, certainly no gangs hanging around the railway station waiting for someone to mug.
Watched a fair few of these. All I'll say is.... Bolton. Come here. Walk 2 minutes from the centre to find our toothless prostitutes and streets littered with Nitrous Oxide canisters. Visit our precinct and town Square to hear loudly arguing alcoholics and bump into our beggars and spice addicts. Stroll through the town and marvel at our dozens and dozens of abandoned boarded up shops...... come here and you'll never leave us off a list again.
No town has declined like Bolton in 30 years. It used to have fantastic shops.
Disappointed with your selection, there are other towns that you could include in the ten. Maybe increase it to 20 or 25 for a better coverage of the UK. I've made comments before with other videos, but you never engage in even acknowledge or reply.
Why is Shitterton not on the list? It should be number one😂
Coventry, stay or visit coventry then u would put this at the top of your list.
It's a city, not a town, and it's far better than many I've been to.
@@jamesmason8436 haha then u need a optician review brother. Just take a walk or take a car and travel around city and go to places like ball hill, foles hill, stoke etc
@@t-rex6816 I've been to these areas and lived just off Ball Hill for a couple of years. All cities have such areas.
I'll repeat: I've seen worse than Coventry.
@@jamesmason8436 may there are places, but i believe coventry need a place or mention in this list, its worse now i terms of crime and exte rnal invasion they call it multiculturalism. Welcome to historical coventry sorry middle east and subsahara of England.
@@t-rex6816 but it's not a town so not even eligible for this list.
Your complaint seems to derive from demographics/ immigration which tells us all we need to know.
The suburbs of Coventry are great places to live and, while the city centre is small and not the best place for shopping, it's improved immeasurably over the last decade and is now home to one of the best universities in the UK and loads of great places to eat and visit. Tons of history in and around the cathedral area of town, in particular.
The precinct still needs a bit of work but other than that I see a huge improvement (compared to when I lived there) each time I visit.
Kent is not a North West county of England!
Woolwich
What utter bollocks lived in Didcot for a full year never saw let alone had trouble with gangs. You’re just click baiting.
What struck me, apart from the gobsmacking generalisations, was the peculiar syntax & laboured English. It sounded like someone whose native tongue was NOT English but they were trying very hard to mask the fact.
Altogether a bizarre video! Anybody know of any reason that Russian bots could be targeting English towns?
🤪
The Learning Canteen website indicates that they're based in Ukraine. Sounds like they get an English guy to read the scripts without any alteration. It's pretty hilarious!
@@SomeoneCalledRob I knew it was something like that! Thank you for clarifying. ✌️😁
Iam shocked that Hull isn't called this time.It had a undeserved reputation.Remember that idiot next to Kirsty Alsop looking at properties? Underrated city even the poor areas are just juvenile youths and not real gangs with knifes…cough London!
Luton should be top oldham no.2
Don't believe any of this.
Didcot the most infamous small town in England !
Who exactly is the "We" in this study, the uploader and his mother? What study and its criteria was used for rating these "hated" towns. I hardly think Llangefni rates as "no. 10 in the most hated towns in the UK." Admittedly it's an unremarkable town, but its located in lovely countryside, the delightful Red Wharf bay is within walking distance, it has its own nature reserve, crime is low and its quiet. Nearly everyone who lives on Anglesey would rate Holyhead as the worst town on that island. Admittedly Rhyl is a dive, but hardly No. 3 in the UK. Why are dives like Strood, Whitstable, Cleveland, Hull, Blackpool, Jaywick, Burnley, Blackburn, Bradford, Grimsby, Lowestoft, Barrow-In-Furness, ... on this list? The highest level of crime I personally experienced, plus friends of mine, was when I lived in Yeovil.
The Luton comments are way exaggerated
Can any one tell me which political parties run these towns?
Probably Labour.
At least half of them are CONSERVATIVE supporting
@@Redsleather Dear Leather..You are wrong...Only Dover and Aylesbury are led by the conservatives...(Not sure about Didcot could not find info). At least even of the ten are run by parties of the left.
@@RedsleatherDear Red Leather (again)
Didcot also looks to be run by left leaning parties....a co-alition of Libs and greens .
Why would you tell me the conservatives run more than half of these towns?
One of the oddest things I've ever seen on UA-cam narrated by someone who can't even read correctly from a poorly written script. If this is Learning Canteen then I don't want to eat anything you sell.
How come Bishops Stortford Hertfordshire wasn't on this list I recon it deserves the number one spot
East London, Manchester, Birmingham I don't like the most. Dirty and scary.
Manchester and Birmingham are not dirty and scary. Only some areas are. But I’m terms of cost of living and job opportunities they are good.
Horses for courses. Manchester is great I think.

Ahhhhhh clickbait nonsense,thanks
So, the first one, number 10 on the list..... Is hated because it is the center for local government for Anglesey!!? Really? you might as well say it is hated because of the way the name is spelt! or some other daft reason. Joke of a site, the reasons given for any of these so called hated towns could apply to ANY town in the UK.

Port Talbot is by far the worst town in the UK. It looks like a post apocalyptic nightmare. There's not even a Starbucks in Port Talbot. Also, the residents of the town are nasty to a man. Avoid Port Talbot at all costs!

the more non white the most hated by me
In English, we start our sentences with a capital letter. We also use punctuation, such as commas to indicate a pause or emphasis. And it would be non-white, not non white. Lastly, the word “most” doesn’t really fit where you’ve used it.
You should have written
“The more non-white, the more they are hated by me.”
