Hayden, I like how you use silences and also your comments about a looseness with timing. I use both in my playing because it feels right, and it gives the guitar space to do its thing. Acoustic guitars have a tonal capability that is often underutilized and under-explored.
Love how Hayden approaches writing pieces, tuning the guitar to whatever sounds good and just having a go, very refreshing and I think has resulted in some brilliant compositions and melodies
The Fahey influence is strong. Wasn't surprised when he cited Fahey during the interview. I appreciate Hayden's ability to create atmosphere with spacing and phrasing. Really meditative quality about his music.
I hadn't heard too much of Hayden Pedigo's music until I listened to his recent album Live in Amarillo, Texas which also features 'The Happiest Times I Ever Ignored' and 'Rained Like Hell'. I covered the album briefly on my website and it's up there with some of my favourite guitar records from the past few years. As he suggests his style without being too spare or mournful carries a sense of quietude and spaciousness, humbled and humbling, with melodies that really stick in your head.
"With a focus on melody and a distaste for flash and complexity for complexity’s sake...". Years ago I stopped paying attention to a lot of solo guitar music becasuse it was becoming all about flash and complexity. But this music is nice...very refreshing in its accessibility.

Hayden uses some idiosyncratic tunings: The first tune, “The Happiest Times I Ever Ignored,” is Db Ab Eb F Ab Eb, Capo II. “Rained Like Hell” is in DADGAD, Capo III, and “Elsewhere” is D G D G A D, Capo III

Kind of Joni Mitchell-like playing
Folk - do you people even know what means? It isn't this. This is original music. Keep it simple. More and more categories is s.t.u.p.i.d.
