I paid $600 for an ⁸ week old mixed breed puppy from a small dog rescue. I had been fostering him and could not give him up. Years later, a hereditary disease that killed my Mom, took the lives of my brother and sister (ALS). That dog, a min pin mix, saw me through the grief with a deep empathy humans don't have. Priceless🎉

    My kitty. She chose me.
Was at the local humane society and hoping for a siamese. None of them were active or really interested in anything. So I go around the inside area. Saw this large black cat and we locked eyes. I was yelled at to come and pet this fluffy cat. I had to adopt her. This 9 year old kitty chose me. And since she was a senior cat, I got her for free.
7 years later, she's still happy as can be and cuddles with me daily. Sleeps with me every night. Would never trade her for the world.

In 2009 I saw a post for some Border Collie and Australian Shepherd mixed puppies going for around $300 on Kijiji. I kept passing it up, but then close to the Thanksgiving holiday they were listed as free. When I called there were five left and once my family got there there were only two left. We picked out my boy Moogie and I was lucky to have him in my life for almost fifteen years. He was my second in command, helped me with my kids and was happy to just spend time with me.

I got a free cat from the humane society. One eye and in poor health, was told he would live a couple years at most. He made it to 18 and was (according to everyone who met him) the BEST sweetest cat ever. He lived 9 years with me .... the vet only gave him 1 to 2 years tops. Loved him so much I made a video about him on my channel.

About 40 years ago my wife got me a silver wedding ring for $8. Since my skin reacts to most metals I didn't expect to be able to wear it long, but it turns out that silver is the only metal that I can wear (haven't tried titanium).

    • @ResidentMilf
      @ResidentMilf 4 місяці тому +2

We live in a college town and one day my wife and I were walking and found a microwave sitting on the side of the road for garbage pick up, so we needed one so we went ahead and brought it home, that stupid worked for over 20 years and four homes later before it finally died and had to buy a new one.

I bought a pair of jeans from a second hand store a few years back. Nothing special, I just needed a pair of jeans to use for doing odd jobs in that I didn't mind getting covered in dirt etc. Before wearing them I was about to wash them and out of habit went through the pockets. I found a £20 note in that useless tiny little pocket. The one just on top of one of the front pockets. The jeans cost me £5 so I was £15 up on the deal. Not my best buy ever but the first time I was paid to buy something.

I bought a $5 space heater at a yard sale 2 years ago. It was designed for a small space like a bathroom. I intended to use it to season some sweet potatoes I grew. The following winter we got a severe cold snap and the heater in our pumphouse wasn't enough and the pipes froze solid. We were without water in the house until the little $5 space heater thawed the pipes. Lucky me, the frozen pipes didn't burst.

I had one of those tape deck converters that I bought for 5 bucks, and it worked like a dream. I also bought a bluetooth device that plugged into the cigarette lighter and had a headphone jack on it for like 20 bucks. So 25 bucks brought an almost 50 year old car sound system 40 years into the future. Worked great until I sold the car.

The curtain in my bedroom was bought by my grandparents almost 40 years ago with a fairly cheap price at the time. The seller, the maker and my grandparents all had died a long time ago and that curtain still going strong with no torn at all. My parents just change that curtain this year into a new one just because that curtain has gotten way too thin to the point that you can see through my window.

I started going to rock concerts in 1976. I went to a lot of concerts. Often taking a week off to follow a particular band to a half dozen shows in the SE. I bought the tour shirt for every show. Some venues had different opening acts, so that shirt would be different. I never wore any of these and kept them protected. Just last year, I sold my 80s and 90s collections, save a few, and traveled through Australia for two months.

I have owned cats for almost literally my whole life, most the time more than one at a time, and have never paid for one. I currently own SIX of them because my home is down the street from an SPCA that is normally full, cat wise, and I am pretty sure people dump these poor things. Of the six I own, only one of them wasn't a dumped or feral cat and that is because the first dumped and extremely loving cat was pregnant and when I rehomed the five kittens, one came back. On top of that there is a gray cat living on my back porch, a fluffy black/orange/white mix in my garage and a handful of toms that prowl my neighborhood that I feed. I have a bleeding heart. Also, all my cats except the most recent one are fixed, he has to get his shots first then will be as well. I have only had one cat my whole life that was stereotypically cat-stand-offish and the rest are like meowing dogs and extremely loving. The ones that were feral before I literally kidnapped them are always the MOST affectionate.

I was running through Walmart and happened to see fleece jackets on sale for 5 bucks. Warm enough for a chilly day but light enough that I don't roast when I go inside. Was given another one a couple of years later(same brand/company), and I think it was 3 or 4 times more than I paid. Still wear them 20+ years later.

Bought a Gordon Ramsay saucepan at a garage sale for $1.50. I beat it all to hell and it still looks and works the same years later. Best pan I ever owned.
Bought a HeroQuest game at the Goodwill for $1.25. HeroQuest was something like a D&D game with tokens, dice, statues and cards. The game was nearly complete and the included notepads were barely used. Sold it a short while later for 80 bucks.
A local dept. store was going out of business and they were selling their shelving. Found a beautiful, sturdy, metal and wood shelf for 10 bucks. Thing could withstand a nuclear blast.
My friend routinely finds functional flat screen TVs in his apartment's garbage room. People get their tax returns, get new TVs and throw out the ones they have. It's a good way to get perfectly good TVs if you're willing to lurk around garbage rooms around tax season.

I have an old Columbia brand windbreaker, it was my property ever since my dad bought it for me from some thrift store while I was in 1st or 2nd grade. It was obviously way too big for me then, but I still frequently wore it. I am now in my 2nd year of college, still sporting this jacket, and you can even see it represented in my profile picture. Best part is that the worst damage it has is just some impossible to remove stains near the cuffs, which says more than my winter coat I haven't had for a full year and it has a mysterious hole on the left arm I had to patch with duct tape.

I have a pair of tweezers that I cherish like those nail clippers. They're amazing at grabbing exactly what you need them to and they have this curve to them that makes them an amazing tool to prevent ingrown nails (which I have a problem with due to the shape of my toes) The tweezers perfectly adjust the skin next to the nail so I can painlessly work on it thereby preventing painful ingrown nails and infections. Its gross yeah but for anyone who this regularly happens to finding preventative tools is a godsend.

I got a large screen TV from Goodwill for $40 (to use for a second monitor for my laptop) that I figured after getting it home was because it was doing this weird thing where the screen was distorted and green. (It hadn't done so in the store.) I thought I'd bought garbage for a few days and was trying to figure out what to do with it, especially as it would occasionally turn crystal clear for a while and then distort again. Well after those first few days, it stopped doing that distorted green thing and has been crystal clear every single day for over a year. Best computer monitor I've ever had!

Not so much a purchase at it was rewards for drinking tons of coca-cola products. This was back when coke would allow people to turn in points for catalog items, so over the years I chose a great pair of Adidas jogging pants-still have them to this day (they are about 16-18 years old, still look new) and a hand blender that I still use around the same age as the pants and a salad spinner that I still use from that era as well.
