      * The Stranger once tried to come for Ser Barristan and found the Warrior sitting beside him; when The Stranger asked if the Warrior was there to protect Ser Barristan, the Warrior said no, he just wanted to watch the Stranger try and fail.
      * Ser Barristan was once accused of violent behavior towards an animal; that was the most terrified dragon anyone had ever seen.
      * The reason the White Walkers had not been seen in over a thousand years is because they were still afraid of Ser Barristan.

    In the book, he says something roughly like, 'Here boy, melt it down and add it to your throne! It would do more good to you than these five here. Perhaps it will cut Stannis and bleed him after he kills and takes that throne from you'
    Jaime was a better fighter than him throughout the books, he knew. But it was because he was old now, and Jaime is really really Arthur Dayne sort of a bloke, about the same level with Barristan and Gerold Hightower.
    Tywin Lannister decided to send Tyrion to King's Landing, when he heard of Barristan's dismissal from the Kingsguard in favour of the Hound.
    ''King's Landing. I am sending you to court.''
    ''What am I to do there?'', ''Rule'' his father said curtly.
    Tyrion hooted with laughter ''My sister might have a word to say about that!''
    ''Let her say what she likes. Her son needs to be taken in hand before he ruins us all. I blame those jackanapes on the council - our friend Petyr, the venerable Grand Maester and that cockless wonder Lord Varys. What sort of counsel are they giving Joffrey when he lurches from one folly to next? Whose notion was it to make Janos Slynt a lord? The man's father was a butcher, and they grant him Harrenhal. Harenhall was the seat of kings! Not that he will ever set foot inside it, if I have a say. I am told he took a bloody spear for his sigil. A bloody cleaver would have been my choice.''
    ''And dismissing Selmy, where was the sense in that? Yes, the man was old, but the name of barristan the Bold still has meaning in the realm. He lent honor to any man he served. Can anyone say the same of the Hound? You feed your dog bones under the table, you do not seat him beside you on the high bench. If Cersei cannot curb the boy, you must. And if these councillors are playing us false..''
    Tyrion knew. ''Spikes,'' he sighed. ''Heads. Walls''
    ''I see you have taken a few lessons from me.''

    • @dorkandproudofit
      @dorkandproudofit 3 роки тому +1

      The reason was that his death was an essential part of Dani's story. The first time we see her be more the Mother of Dragons than the Breaker of Chains, it's when she's still pissed about Selmy's death and outright says she doesn't care if the people she's feeding to her dragons are innocent or not. Aside from Ser Jorah, he was the only one willing to call her out on any hypocrisy or other dangerous flaw he saw in her, and Mormont was too emotionally attached to speak to her in a truly unbiased manner. She failed the standard hero test of "see how well you apply the lessons of your mentor when the mentor is no longer available". I suspect his death in the books will be more glorious, but her response will likely be similar (or worse, considering the show was KIND to her relative to the books).

    • @saljpal3
      @saljpal3 5 років тому +3

      cristian yampasi As far as the books go Jon is dead so his story should be over but considering his resurrection in the show we assume the same will happen in the books. So I think it’s safe to assume he’s Rhaegar’s son in the books too. Also once he’s resurrected he’ll be able to leave it since he gave his life to the watch. At this point it all makes sense why everything happened to Jon Snow from a author’s point of view. George RR Martin had Jon join the Night’s Watch so he wouldn’t be killed at the red wedding and he had him killed so he could be resurrected and leave the Night’s Watch.

    • @cristianyampasi4692
      @cristianyampasi4692 5 років тому +1

      @@saljpal3 I still have doubts about him leaving the night's watch, since not everybody will buy his story of resurrection, but that can be argued. We will see(or read) if he is actually a true born son of Rhaegar on the books, I don't know how the marriages work on this universe, but I remember that Maegor the cruel had like 3 wives at the same time so I guess it's possible for Jon to make a claim to throne, oh and don't forget young griff, I always taught that Barristan would be more inclined to follow him, for Jon was born with Stark appearance and has no Targaryen traits as far as I remember.

    • @saljpal3
      @saljpal3 5 років тому

      cristian yampasi. I’m sure enough people will see his corpse to convince everyone else. I’m also sure Rhaegar’s marriage to Lyanna will be different in the books. No way would he be able to have his marriage to Elia annulled since they had two kids together. More likely he’ll have Lyanna as a second wife. And since R + L = J turned out to be true I’m sure young Griff being a Blackfyre will be true also. I’m sure Barristan would be inclined to follow whoever is both worthy and has the best claim to the throne who he thought at the time was Daenerys. He didn’t know about young Griff until he already pledged his sword to Daenerys.

    The disorder that turned Maelys into a monster, is called the Vanishing twin syndrome. It is extremely rare but there are cases miscarriage in which one fetus in the womb absorbs the other dead one into himself, this is possible because the twins share the same DNA and in that early stage of development the cells are not yet specialized and can be re purposed and integrated into the other one or the mother's placenta. In most cases the surviving twin will be fine with no major problems but more rare cases when the phenomenon occurs later in the cycle the surviving twin will be born with deformations or extra body parts that should have belonged to the other twin.
    It is an extremely rare phenomenon with extremely low chances of creating monsters like Maelys, so don't worry this might happen to your own children.

    The fact is that Barristan, in the show, was basically fighting with everything against him. He had to press the attack otherwise they'd kill Grey Worm, he had light armor on instead of the plate and chainmail he was used to, he was fighting in an enclosed space, and he was using a sword against enemies with daggers. Yet he still cut through most of them like cake, so at least he got a half-decent send-off. It truly makes you think he could have taken the other Kingsguard on easily.
