Actually, I can understand Thomas thinking that Sir Topham Hatt would scrap Hiro because if you watch the classic series closely, you will see engine remains in the scene somewhere in the background or somewhere in the side. And yes, who can forget the scrap yard!
I think I understand why the writers are reaching out to different countries for steam engines. It's well established canon that the other railway is all diesels, so it would raise the question of where the fat controller keeps finding English engines in perfect working order so easily. I realize that the other railway hasn't come up in the CGI, but the way the writers have been alluding to events from The Railway Series, it may only be a matter of time before the other railway comes up as a topic in a story (Oliver need only bring up his back story even a little and boom there you have it). As I see it, bringing in steam engines from other countries is the writers' way of making a loop-hole in that "rule" if you will. It's a clever idea and I like to see the variety in engine designs. Also, since Thomas and Friends is getting dubbed into so many languages, it must be nice for train fans watching the show to see engines from their home countries interact with the other characters. I'm sure Venezuelan Thomas fans freaked out when they first saw Gator.
HOTR and BMM are the only two specials I love. Hiro and Victor are the only two characters in the movie I love the most. Hiro is a wise guy and Victor I never knew we actually got to hear an engine speak Spanish.

It’s actually a good thing. Many new technologies invented and as well as many futuristic technology should’ve celebrated their 50,000th Birthday in the early 20th century
Honestly, I though this was a good special, but there are a few plotholes and some other issues that needed to be sorted out, like (I agree with) Hiro coming to Sodor and being the first engine there, etc... However, Nitrogen did a pretty good job with animation, but I have to admit, Arc is much better and the animation has gotten more beautiful and realistic, Arc's camera angles are getting better, and the designs are really standing out. I felt like the Sodor Steamworks was a nice adjustment to the CGI series, but Victor was an okay character (but I do enjoy getting more character from him in "Blue Mountain Mystery") and Kevin was pretty annoying and his humor got better in Season 17 and "Sodor's Legend of the Lost Treasure". At first I thought he was annoying (just like I said on my review of this special), but Kevin is starting to be a decent character and Hiro was a nice one and Togo Igawa's voice for him was pretty good. But, seeing as how Hiro's class was first built in the 1930's, it's really impossible for him to come to the Island of Sodor WAY before Thomas and the rest of the Steam Team came. But, here's my theory. I think that Hiro was lying about being the "Master of the Railway" because I think that he was actually an engine that helped Japan during World War II. He was harshly mistreated by his owner and the other engines he worked with during that time and he nearly destroyed during a traumatic accident during a battle in Japan during the War. However, Sir Topham Hatt/The Fat Controller/Fatty found him and secretly bought him but he didn't have enough parts to be repaired and left in a siding as a result, until Thomas found him again. That would explain on why I get bothered by Hiro being the first engine on Sodor, even though his class was built WAY after the North Western Railway was opened. But, I'm just gonna let it slide. I still enjoyed this special and just like "TGD" and my review of this special, I give it an 8/10 for a pretty good start to the CGI series. The action was pretty well-done, the song "Go Go Thomas" was okay, and having Spencer as the main antagonist was a pretty interesting idea for Sharon Miller and HIT Entertainment to do, instead of having a human, new character, or a diesel as a villain.

5:32 - Yes. I got really scared at that scene because I've never scene an engine fall apart before. Although I wish Gordon fell apart in the Great Race.
Hiro is a design towards a D51 JR Steam Engine, look into JNR D51 class on Wikipedia for the information and in Japan did you know that about 170 of these unique engines where saved from cutters torch which is remarkable to have saved quite a lot of engines, the most favourite engine that runs on excursion trains in Japan is D51 498,
Here are the great and awesome things about this movie: 1 - The locomotives actually have great new personalities. Gordon- actually not so arrogant. Kind, helpful and a great friend who enjoys any job. James - generous, not boastful, caring and offering. Edward - still the same as he was before ,but even better and more. Thomas - not so cheeky and fussy, quite sensible but still mistake prone. The list goes on. 2 - it has a CIT load of support, heroism, and helpfulness at every turn. 3 - there's really great cooperation. Only downside Sir Topham Hatt's jerkiness and impatience. So this gets more than a B+. This gets an A.
@@RedMadMichael Good point, but I can see some differences. Henry sounds timid, James still jabs a bit about his paintwork here and there, and Gordon is still proud to power the express but isn't a twat about it.
Hiro wasn’t the very first engine on sodor, it says in the film that he was one of the first engines on sodor. Though looking back I realized I missed that the first few times as well and legitimately thought that he was the very first engine on sodor so I don’t blame anyone for the mistake
Which is on England From the Mainland and since all engines on Sodor besides the ones that are obviously from somewhere else come from the mainland they are more foreign
The whole CGI Thomas thing felt like a fever dream I saw on KAET Channel 8 in the 2010’s, I was used to Clearwater Features Thomas with Ringo Starr and George Carlin. CGI Thomas still feels weird to me, with the Nitrogen stuff, it always feels like I’m watching it for the first time ever.
The greenery and lighting was too dark in the Nitrogen era. They also made James too large when he should be the same size as Edward. They could have stated Hiro was the first famous engine on Sodor. In my canon, Edward and Henry were the first engines on the North Western Railway as I prefer Thomas arriving after James.
Loved this when it came out Thought the story was charming, despite bits of unrealism (for example, Thomas’ brakes being broken, yet he manages to get stopped by some bushes. Then he manages to puff forward and stop, then get to the steamworks some how) Hiro was one of my favourite characters, though his basis is far younger than Skarloey’s, and even Thomas’ I liked his wise and kind persona and the fact he was foreign as well I love Japanese culture
I really like this special. *Here are my reasons* -It introduced one of my favorite characters, Hiro. -the animation is good -the music was great -the voices are my favorite but the lines aren’t that good -And I can’t hate it because I grew up with it

I think that the reason why Thomas got off the hook is because Spencer found Percy's mail cars, which Sir Topham Hatt went on & on about. Not to mention that while Thomas was doing his work & helping Percy find the mail cars, the other engines were bringing old parts to Hiro.
