    Despite being very overpriced, the AP takes the crown for me.
    The VC just looks like a Citizen Eco-drive model, including the Citizen short hands. The minute hand is way too short so to me it's not the looks of the AP or Nautilus

    I hate to say this, and it seems like I might be alone in doing so, but the Vacheron doesn't appeal to me at all. The Royal Oak and Nautilus aren't really my thing either, but there's an undeniable charm to both of them, a perfect balance between bezel and dial size and just the right dial treatments and indices to offset the brutish cases with a bit of class. The Vacheron, on the other hand, lacks that balance, and ends up looking like a $300 fashion watch because of it.

      As another user said, the Vacheron looks a bit like an Eco Drive. Eco Drives are cool... but for what they are. Citizen could make a watch that looks very similar to the Vacheron. I'm not sure a budget brand could manage to make a watch look very similar to the RO.

    Never understood the love for the Royal Oak until I fell in love with it. Its ugly and beautiful at the same time; its so complex yet so simple; its rounded yet so angular; its so obnoxious yet so understated. Everything is balanced and that's why it will be an icon forever.

    • @playingbadgolfwell9732

      Completely agree. Maybe I'm too susceptible to the opinions of others, but, for the longest time, whenever I saw a Royal Oak in a magazine (late 70s through 80s) I always dismissed it. However, if I could now travel back in time, I'd pick one (or two) up without hesitation.

      If you want to buy a watch of this genre, seriously get the royal oak. The overseas screams " I didnt have the balls to own a RO " and therefore you compromised to settle for half. You buy not just the royal oak but its heritage. The vacheron is a pretender that is not true to royal oak heritage nor vacheron. Dont be neither here nor there, either get the AP or dont get it at all. Lastly, the overseas uses a movement from GP, i think its the base calibre, not truly inhouse to vacheron. You want a vacheron? Get their dress watches, their MODERN overseas chronos and even their in house chronos etc etc

    • @Ahmadb000
      @Ahmadb000 6 років тому +10

      Most people who criticize the Overseas is because it's not trendy like the RO and the Nautilus..thanks to Instagram and bloggers who made those 2 watches so trendy to the point that everyone suddenly wants to own one of them and made this fake qoues and waiting lists that even made people think that owning one of these watches will gain them millions of dollars over time not for wearing and enjoy them. The VC in my opinion tops those trendy watches and owns a deep and oldest heritage of the other two

    A better example of high end value?
    Anything from Girard Perregaux is an incredible value, most especially on the second hand market. And, if you're into this style of watch, the Laureato predates all of them except the Royal Oak. I recently saw a video knocking GP for "jumping on the band wagon" with the integrated bracelet look. It seems people don't realize it came out in the early 70s a couple years before the VC or PP offerings.
    For the life of me, I can't figure out why people just ignore the existence of GP. Their 3 bridges models and minute repeaters especially are incredible high horology pieces, and are absolutely in the same league as the "Big Three".

    Vacheron used to be the epitomy of refined understatement with unprecedented quality. In the past two decades they have started pandering to non-European tastes with their gerish masters of art and other 'hot felon-ish' series, wearing one of those in high society would be equivalent to arriving at the Viennese Opera in a stretched limo. I fancy the Overseas series simply on the basis that I like Seiko sports watches, but it really looks like a £200 Tissot that you could buy at Dixons.

Not that the VC is unattractive, but if you move away from from descriptions on paper - "prominent bezel with a repeating geometric design" - and look at them on the wrist, any resemblance vanishes. At some point I would like to own a watch of such caliber. currently my highest end watch is from Ulysse Nardin. As someone who is not interested in purchasing a watch as an investment but rather purely for the art and engineering in this case I would be more inclined to purchase a VC second hand. Lately I have become rather intrigued with the H. Moser pioneer which seems to have the same level of hand finishing and quite clever engineering.

    Patek's Natilus over AP's Royal Oak. AP over VC. I would actually never wear the VC, i hate its case. Designwise AP took it to another level, many years before VC came up with their inspired model. But as for everything, beauty is in the eye of the beholder..

    I wish Vacheron Constantin made a more moderately sized version of the Overseas. Perhaps a 37-38 mm would broaden the market for them and boost sales.

    One of the reasons we buy proper watches is the excitement factor.. despite the price, the heritage, the story.. Vacheron simply doesn't have that thing what AP RO has in this excitement area.

    All this talk of Gerald Genta & he didn’t even design the VC overseas! He did the Gerard Perregaux Laureato though and no mention. It seems GP is invisible in the UK. Me I’d have a Blancpain thanks

    I don’t see how the nautilus is historically relevant. It’s a homage of the Royal Oak

    • @henrikaaseb2223
      @henrikaaseb2223 4 роки тому

      Bulova has a homage for the royal oak, gerrard perregaux has a homage, maurice lacroix has a homage, sure the design of the nautilus has some features that clearly makes it a Genta design, but i would not call it an homage as it has its own destinctive look.
      Anyway, thats Just my opinion :)

    I never understood the Royal Oak...until. One day I decided to try one on just to see what all the hype was about. This is gonna sound weird, but I'm pretty sure the heavens opened and a quartet of angels sang and white doves came out of nowhere. It's was truly the first time that has ever happened in all the years I've lusted after and collected watches. For all the haters out there...try it on, you just might get it once it's on your wrist.

      Eric Johnson I prefer the overseas. The dial, the bracelet and the bezel. I can tell you why I prefer it but somehow I bought the RO. It just feels so nice on the wrist and has great presence. Eventually I'll buy the overseas dual time. I've promised it to myself for a while but the odds are even I'll end up coming out of the dealer with an ROO instead 😀 I can see myself spending fortunes not buying the VC Overseas
