    Thanks for this video, I'm just starting but the Xenon are wrecking everything & I want to push them back in a few vital sectors, but don't really know much about capital ships or how to do large-scale battles. This is helpful.

      You're welcome.
      The fact that a wing of fast S ships with torpedoes or heavy weapons like blast mortars, will perform way better in an anti capital role, that destroyers ever could, is something that any X4 player learn eventually. 🤓

      With the Xenon "I" or "K", they have a soft spot. Above and behind them they can't hit you*.
      So... Load up yourself with a load of mines that you deploy from your space suit. Jump into a fast "S" ship and sneak up on the Xenon capital ship as stated above. Once you've slowed right down and you're above that Xenon, you can stop flying and your ship will get _towed_ by that Xenon. Jump out your ship. Spacesuit down to the Xenon and start scattering your mines like they're hot bricks. The more the merrier. 50+ of those bad boys.
      Then Zip back to your ship and sail away directly above the Xenon. Once out of range of the Xenon but you can still use the mines, trigger _ALL_ of of them to go off at the same time.
      If you've not destroyed it, then you've seriously damaged it.
      * Oh! Don't get the MOD that _ADDS_ extra turrets for Xenons for capital ships. If you do, then they have no blind spot and you'll end up getting a face full of about 20+ turrets ;-))...

    When a CATACLYSMIC xenon invasion becomes nothing more than an inconvenience, then you've probably gotten as far as you can in the game.

      Yeah, a Raptor full with Chimeras is pretty much end game content. In fact, my version of a "custom start" is a save slot from day 15 when I've first fill my Raptor with its Chimera friends, just in case I wipe out the xenon.
      But, there is also a "poor man" way to achieve the same thing like in the clip, with a competent destroyer (Syn, Odysseus, not the joke destroyer, the Ray) and lots of laser towers. Something like this: ua-cam.com/video/0Q8MIiIKE7s/v-deo.html.

  • @thezanzibarbarian5729

    Two methods to deal with a Xenon invasion.
    1 - By sheer firepower. A lot of non-Xenon ship, "XL" ships have really long range weaponry that will eat through even the Xenon "I" at range can't complete with.
    2 - If it's _NOT_ your sector, then flee back to safety leaving behind crap a load of laser towers and those lovely _"friend or foe"_ mines by the escape gate.
    EDIT.
    There is nothing quite like it when one of your capital ships _opens up_ with it's turrets. I can watch X4 videos like this for ages.
    However. I've got some pesky Kha'ak to deal with. Their small "S" fighters are no match for my destroyers with Flak Cannons. But I find it odd that even though they were in X2 and X3, the Kha'ak in X4 seem to have forgotten the ability to make capital ships. They had both carriers and destroyers in the previous "X" series!

    • @ragnos28
      @ragnos28  9 місяців тому +1

      "Kha'ak in X4 seem to have forgotten the ability to make capital ships", indeed. 😉
      I do remember the defend against the Kha'ak missions in X3TC, that spawn lots of "bug" capitals. I also remember the boron Rays being the best for that. You see, in X3TC the boron had destroyers, not the glorified frigate that the Ray is in X4. 🤨

      @@ragnos28 Something else you could do in X3 was to tow other ships with an installed tractor beam. I remember a mission, the hunt for the Yacht of Pontifex Paranidia, and having to go to that unnamed sector all the way down, somewhere in the SE area, find that missing M7 class ship and then having to tow it back through 2 sectors to a wharf for repairs whilst trying to avoid pirates and a minefield. It was a Hyperion ship. I'd guess it would fall between the "M" and "L" class ships now but nearer to a large "M" size. The amount of times I'd lose the tow going through a gate and when going back through that gate, I could never find the ship again. It'd vanish. So I'd have to restart the game from a save. Or if I went just a little bit to fast, and the tow beam would extend to far and if I stopped, that ship would go sailing past and I wouldn't be able to reconnect with it again.
      Oddly enough, and for some reason that I'm still not really sure of, but I also had a real soft spot for the Argon Titan. It was slow, but was like an old pet. Always faithful.

    • @ragnos28
      @ragnos28  9 місяців тому +1

      @@thezanzibarbarian5729 What I miss the most from X3, is destroyers actually being destroyers.
      I also liked the Argon Titan, had a heavy industrial look, kinda like BSG Galactica (also, old and faithful 😋).

      @@ragnos28 True. When one of those popped up on the battlefield, you knew there would be trouble for the opposition.
      The battleships now seem to have lost their edge. Unless you use a modded one that has better shields and weaponry.
      Or has the introduction of "M" class ships made the "L" class a bit irrelevant when compared to the brute force of some of the "XL" beasts?
      I was on my Asgard ship last night. It's a powerful "XL" battleship that's also got room for 40 "S" class fighters. It has a front beam gun that has a power of, if I recall rightly, over 300k. But it overheats really quickly and needs a long cool down. That being said, I attacked the two Kha'ak stations in Sanctuary of Darkness. It was like shooting fish in a barrel. And as an added touch, I dumped a load of Mk2 laser towers and those friend or foe mines as good measure. I didn't even bother to launch any fighters. The Kha'ak are not the threat they used to pose 8-))...

    • @ragnos28
      @ragnos28  9 місяців тому

      @@thezanzibarbarian5729 There is nothing like the Asgard for station demolition. But for fleet combat? I tend to not use it in that role because it kills all immersion, being so absurdly OP. I often "log" in X4 after watching some BSG battle for example. Imagine how shows like StarTrek, BSG would have space battles portrayed, if one ship could take out the oposition flagship in one shot....zaaap, boom...writen and directed by...... And I know that the Last Skywalker or how its that thing called, had those Star Destroyers with Death Star laser strap o them but that is #notmystarwars. 🤑

    • @ragnos28
      @ragnos28  2 роки тому +1

      @@gufbrindleback Yeah...is annoying the fact that our dmg ships don't go for repairs on their own to our or factions wharfs and shipyards. But they will go on their own to our carriers and aux ships, even if not subordonate to them. Sometimes, when I have my fleet in a sector, passing damage trading ships will land on the carrier and aux ships to get repaired...
      So besides having a wharf and a shipyard, I need an aux/carrier parked near the shipyard, for them to repair on their on...does this make sense?

      Torpedo Chimera have 4 neutron gatling + 1 Torpedo launcher. As for your bombers, I suggest you use Chimera as well, with mk4 engines, to my knowledge, they are the only platform capable of firing torpedoes and having decent survival rate (as long as they are not used against stations).

    What would be useful is to list the order of battle in the description plus the strategy and tactics. This is very pretty to look at apart from the manic changing of view, but useless as a learning tool.

    • @ragnos28
      @ragnos28  9 місяців тому

      For me, any combat scenario in X4, apart from station sieging can be handled by a combination of carrier based S torpedo bombers and interceptors. At the moment this clip was filmed, only the intercept role was handled automatically, the S bombers required manual target selection. Atm, the bombard role is available and act like intercept against capital ships.
      So now, fleet combat strategy for me is:
      - bring your carrier near the cluster of capital ships, about 20 km form the nearest capital is fine (as only capital ships are a threat for carriers)
      - select launched status for your bombers and interceptors
      - sit back and watch the fireworks
