When the other guys got caught they mostly took their bans and apologised, Armstrong attcked anyone and everyone and that's why when he finally had no way to hide it anymore he's become so hated.

They called him an insult to the state of texas, and essentially spoke for the entirety of the U.S. to another country about being ashamed of his presidency. But that wasn't necssarily how everyone felt about Bush. It wasn't ok, I'm not calling the band right for saying that. What I'm saying is that a lot of prominent individuals criticized Bush during his presidency, and I'm sure they did it in the public eye. So why were the dixie chix targeted specifically is my question. That's all. Maybe I did miss something.:)

Four of the stars you mentioned did not suffer career ending scandal, more like career diminishing scandals (at least initially). The Dixie Chicks suffered a big loss of their country music fans but had gained a number fans outside of country music with their successful album "Taking the Long Way" that debuted at #1 on the pop charts. While they have been on hiatus, at least as far a studio albums go, they working on a new album currently so there career has certainly not ended. As for Mel Gibson, his career in front he camera as an actor suffered from the scandal though he's has had success since then behind the camera as director, especially for "Hacksaw Ridge" in 2016. Winona Ryder has made a comeback with "Stranger Things". Paul Reubens (Pee-Wee Herman) did suffer some initial fallout but has since made a comeback including a Broadway version of the Pee-Wee Herman Show (also filmed for HBO) and a Netflix Pee-Wee Herman Holiday Special.
