These people that comment on how stupid it is for someone to pay that much for a shaving brush just kill me. It’s my money and I’ll spend it however I please. If I want to spend $1000 on a custom engraved wooden toothpick that I’ll use only once then so be it.
Does England have so many badgers to fill the Simpson brushes? We suspect the hairs are Chinese. We suspect that by buying a simson I am paying for the seaweed for silk ribbons.
What's you opinion on the silvertip vs Manchurian as far as softness of the tips? Sorry about all those questions but I am trying to figure these brushes as much as I can and then buy what I think is going to work best for me. I just don't want to buy them all and then having to sale the ones that don't work for me.
+Mike Green no worries! That's why I make these videos! The Silvertip will always have the softest "natural" hair. However, the Manchurian hair is bleached/processed more. The result is actually a slight difference in quality between Manchurian knots. Sometimes, the bleaching can actually make the hair feel more coarse. I prefer the Two Band.
very interesting with the reason its called two band etc . I never knew this personally .... keep up the good work sir . If you ever get to look at the wee scott ... i think your be surprised at the size difference compared to that chubby - but i almost - yes almost bought a polo 10 tonight .... ohh man , this game can be as expensive as getting into 1970`s nose candy :O)
+technicaly brilliant Yes, and just as addictive. :) I'd love to try the Wee Scott. I think that I need to get my hands on one. As I compare the Chubby with the other brushes at my disposal, almost all pale in comparison. I'm going to be reviewing a vintage Gillette brush soon and, just for the sake of being ridiculous, I'm going to compare it with the Chubby. :) Thanks for watching, and I hope that I keep entertaining!
I wouldn't watch your videos if i didn't find them interesting mate - trust me , and another good thing about your channel , you actually answer your subscribers - which is another good thing since if people take the time to input , then its just good manners to respond imho which some channels seem to think they are so special that they just dont do this - i quickly unsubscribe if this is the case . - keep up the good work mate .
Thank you, sir! I, too, have had my comments ignored by people, and it's frustrating, especially when people will ask you to like, subscribe, and comment, then they don't respond. I try to treat others the way that I want to be treated!
Very simply put, processing. From what I can see, the Manchurian is much more processed and refined than the Two Band, making it a bit more luxurious. Sort of like the difference between Merino and Cashmere. Both are high quality wool, but one is just a cut above the other.
As an owner of 8 Chubby 2 and Chubby 3 Manchurians and 2 Chubby 2 and Chubby 2 2-band Silvertip brushes and just an all around badger brush fan, the Manchurian hair is thicker than the Silvertip 2-band giving it even more backbone. To some Manchurian hair is too rough, they probably would prefer the slightly softer feeling Silvertip 2-band hair. Cheers, Claus
Thanks, Claus! I prefer the two band, myself, although, I certainly wouldn't snub my nose at a Manchurian!!! I think that you're right: the Manchurians do seem to have a bit more backbone.
+Mike Green they're rare as chicken teeth. When one comes up, grab it! :) they rarely come up for sale on BST Facebook groups. They're actually less common than the Manchurians.

You cannot get anything in real ivory, so the faux ivory for the standard line of Simpson brushes is the best you are going to get. As for these limited editions in faux ebony or marble, etc., you would not want a brush made from the real material, as it wouldn't be durable and it would probably discolor from water damage. Having a resin handle colored to look like a certain material is the better option.
I don't care if the hairs on this brush came off of Donald Trump's daughter's bikini wax...not worth 300...unless the handle was gold....There comes a time when $$$ exceeds your ability to enjoy...example...You can spend 10 G'S on a home sound system...but your ability to hear the sonic high's and low's..is impossible...You start to lose hearing at 20...Same with the facial skin...you lose texture and feeling..because some of the nerves are gone on the face..."skin changes texture with age"...so spend what you want...it all in your mind
is a ridiculous price to pay for a brush, when there's custom made handles with the same, or better knots for under 100. the illusion of a brush being higher quality simply because it says Simpson and costs 300 is stupid. these ppl source their knots from the same places or tie them themselves. the hair source is the same tho. I've got HMW, 2 band finest, and premium Silvertip in custom handles that look waaaayyyy better than that and perform on such a high level that there couldn't possibly be anything better. it's an illusion and marketing propaganda people. don't be swindled out of your money for the notion of being elite.
I've not been "swindled" out of anything. As far as "custom made handles" looking better and performing better, that's really a matter of personal opinion. I've tried custom handles, and some are good, others aren't. What you get with Simpson is quality control. The fact of the matter is that they have proven designs, proven knots, and enough product to be available all the time. The custom makers can't say that, not by a long shot. This two band is simply my favorite brush, ever. It's the only high end brush that I own, and I certainly don't think that owning this makes me "elite." If you don't like high end brushes, you're entitled to your opinion. However, I've found few lower end brushes that compare, and I've used a TON of brushes.
+chirhomin I'm not knocking you personally man. I don't believe that you've used any of Mathew martings, Anthony makenzies, or envy shave brushes. the list goes on of custom brushes that look waaaayyyy better, and have literally the exact same knots. try one of those custom brushes that come in around 90 bucks, and you'll be looking to sell that one n to be able to buy more soaps and handles. lol
I am currently using a T3 synthetic brush. It feels very good on my face and lathers cream very nicely in my bowl. I have no doubt that your $325 Simpson would feel better on my face and do a better job than my $40 T3. The big question is….how much better? Probably not 8 times better. The other reason I went synthetic with my T3…besides the cost savings…was the ease of maintenance factor. I’ve seen you-tube video after video about breaking in new badger and bore brushes…..getting the smell out of them….hanging them upside down to dry them….etc. etc. Synthetic brushes are a no brainer (and no break-in). With mine…I just shampooed it 3 times…cause I just wanted to….and then started using it. Get done….rinse it out good…shake it good…and then stroke it over a towel to dry the bristles…and put it on my shave shelf ….brush up. It’s dry in about 4 hours. My point is that synthetic brushes are damn near bullit proof…do almost as good a job…and cost 5 to 10 times less. We won’t even get into environmental tree huggers and animal rights zealots who want to put guys like you in jail. Adding all of the plus/minus’ up…I would put my money on the Synthetics taking over the brush world almost entirely in another 15 to 20 years. So I guess it’s….ENJOY THEM WHILE THEY LAST.

Great video. I find this specific combo of ch2 in 2 band Silvertip to be the hardest to find of Simpsons brushes.
Can you do a how to care for your badger brush???? Please!!!!

i cant decide .. chubby 2 in best or super ?

which is the right way to go mate - Gratis , you have a good up bringing , sometimes i think we are a dying breed .
Probably. But, long after we die, the internet will still contain videos of us shaving, and future generations will say, "What strange people...." :)

Do you know where I can get one of those silvertip Simpsons? Google can't find it and Simpsons website doesn't offer those ether. Thank you.

Still cheaper than the $3000 Plisson ebony handle brush.
Hey man, if I buy a brush for that price it will certainly not have “faux” anything are you kidding me?

$300-$400 brush?!? I can say with the utmost confidence that I have zero interest in that experience.
Some people drop sick money on their brushes!
Expensive. !!!
