Going to double comment here because I've done designs in gel polish and you have to be SO careful Bc the gel polish tends to slide and will spread out if you're not quick and then the design can get muddy. Acrylic has better staying power and it doesn't move on the nail.
Thank you for explaining. I tried black gel polish for tiny detailed lines and was disappointed. I can't wait to try the black acrylic paint instead 👍🏻
I was searching for exactly this information. I’m new to gel art and the paint wasn’t behaving so I wondered if I could use acrylic. I learned that I needed to top coat before acrylics as well. Thank you 😊
BLESS!!! I need that dusty rose gel polish in my life! I haven't been able to spot it on the website since Kirsty had it on her nails WEEKS ago! (Y'all need a sort by color feature for your polishes...would make it MUCH easier to find what colors we like/need and want to compare).
I absolutely love acrylic paint as a medium for so many projects. But I've yet to do anything with nails. I used it in my leather work, i did a lot of cartoon, comic book and pop culture images tooled into leather and it was easy enough to get many levels of thinner work the acrylic by just adding water, and the colors stay solid even as the moisture was absorbed into the leather. I've been wondering as I'm picking up using acrylic as a medium for projects if i need to buy gel polish, if I'm not doing nails... It's nice to know though how raised vs flat and solid vs faded they both look 😊 Thank you!
Nail polish dries to quick to do much of any more than a few lines, you should try to do a co plex design with nail polish and you'll realize quickly its not easy lol. Acrylic dries fairly quickly but moves around seamlessly and you can achieve the tiny details with no problem.
Dear Christie,That's all very true, everything you said BUT I kinda waited for you to state THE DIFFERENCE between gel polish and acrylic paints, that being that when you have a design with too much detail one overlapping the other, acrylic paint stays where it is but gel polish tends to unite,as we know gel goes to where gel is so it doesn't leave lines and blah blah etc, which is good when you paint a plain colour but for details it kinda ruins the whole thing,,anyway I love your videos and all, just wanted to express my thoughts,,
Jessica Harrold i am a nail tech and I purchased a gel polish thinner and works great. Any alcohol or anything won’t help the polish much at all if not ruin it.
Hi I tried to do the dragons skin I think it was where u put the top coat over the matilic paint cure and then wipe of the paint and leaves just where the top coat is but after curing I didn’t put top coat over it mine wouldn’t wipe of with acetone can u advise what I might of done wrong as love the nails xxx
I have a question about something else, when I use acrylic paint to do nail art and then topcoat the paint seems to dissolve after a few days. It just vanishes, even if I topcoat it twice and let it dry for about 5 - 10 minutes. Why does this happen?
In the video she uses Maimeri acrylic paint, which is a professional quality acrylic paint. They have 2 different blacks; ivory black and mars black. In the video it appears to dry matte and slightly transparent meaning it is most likely Ivory/Bone Black. Now, if you don't want to use Maimeri, there are plenty of alternative brands that are just as strongly pigmented and far easier to find. Look for Golden Acrylics, Liquitex Acrylics, or Winsor and Newton. Here are some of the benefits of each brand: Acrylics color shift to become slightly darker when dry; W&N paints do not do this due to the formulation. This makes color matching much easier. Liquitex Acrylics are much easier to find and slightly cheaper than the other professional brands while still retaining an extremely high quality. Golden Acrylics typically have slightly higher pigment loads compared to other professional acrylic brands. This means slightly brighter and stronger colors, although it may be hard to tell unless comparing them side by side. They also sell 1oz bottles of fluid acrylic, which is the perfect consistency for nail art straight out of the bottle and is a much more appropriate size than the 2 oz tubes that the other brands sell.
it's the brand sold on naio's website. You could use liquitex or something similar though. It will be about the same quality and you can buy in kits of many colors
Thank you for making this video. I have been wondering the same and it has been bugging me a lot. If you don’t mind, could you do a video about free hand brush strokes and how to utilize them?

Have ever compared gel paint and acrylic paint?
@@kimberthompson7038 She just explained her actual comparisons.
Is this the same acrylic paints that we use for crafts?
Thank you for explaining. I tried black gel polish for tiny detailed lines and was disappointed. I can't wait to try the black acrylic paint instead 👍🏻
I love the glitter streams in your hair!

Same here 😚
Same hehe
They're both good. It depends what look and finish you're going for
I always wondered about the acrylic smearing when you apply the top coat. But I guess once it’s dry it’s ok. Thank you for this. ✌🏼😎

Hello. Is the acrylic paint you use the same kind that's used for painting or is it some specific type?
Use a wet palet for acrylic paint

Did you use a non wipe top coat before applying the acrylic paint?
Hello Kirsty can you do a tutorial with a calligraphy pen for nail art please ???

What brand of acrylic paint is recommended for nail art so that it lasts under gel top coat?
Betty Carr I’d like to know that too
Have you ever used Liquitex acrylic paint on shellac ( soak off gels) before? Can I? Would you apply two top coats to protect the art work.
