    Although only in its second-generation, the Corsa VXR hot hatch has carved a name for itself in a very competitive segment.
    Boasting over 200bhp and some rather stylish, performance-orientated tweaks over the standard Corsa, the VXR iteration looks to challenge the likes of the Peugeot 208 GTi and Ford Fiesta ST.
    We take it out on the road and put it to the test.
    Can the Corsa VXR really tackle models like the Ford Fiesta ST? Watch our video review above to find out, or skip to bits of key information using the links below:

    I've spent 5 days with a VXR Corsa. Now I may be 60 but I know how to drive, my first love was the 205 GTi 1.9. I've done a few track days and I feel I know how to push a front wheel drive car. But, I also like my licence the way it is, clean. So, I loved the time in the VXR, made me feel 20 something, a big grin was on my face most of the time. Except everyone drives so slowly in the countryside. Claustrophobic! Not once. I'm tall and had no problem with big A pillars or blind spots if you KNOW HOW to set your Mirrors correctly. Could I live with it, yes, for short periods. If I was to buy I would buy on PCP because I'd like to have something that limited my driving of it! Fuel economy was OK, but I did use a lot!!! I think it's brilliant.

    Nice review, but in my opinion the Corsa D model looks much nicer overall, especially if you have the post2011 facelift version. A much more slick and agressive look than the Corsa E.

    ...own an Opel Corsa OPC .....now around stage 1.5, and I love it...quite rare in Australia....and I'm 68!...flying under the radar, and being thought of as a Mazda 2. After the usual intake, exhaust and remap mods I'm apparently around 220hp which is all I want. I just love the acceleration on demand...especially in 2nd around town!...seriously pisses off so many BMWs and other tosser brands!

    I have the Nurburgring edition and it’s the most fun I’ve had in a car and I’ve had some fruity motors in my years. Turbo nutter asbo range!

    I stopped watching at 39 seconds because I figured that since you were watching the camera more than the road it was only going to be a matter of time before we heard metal on metal and the camera went blank.

    Really like the way it looks. 3 seaters seems to be the standard for the small hot hatch just like the Ibiza Cupra and Peugeot 208 GTI. The fuel consumption is poor and you'll be more likely to get around 30 mpg in real life. You may save a grand over competitors when you buy it but it may cost more in the long run with running costs.

    Considering getting one of these at the end of the year. However, I still think the Fiesta ST is a better all round hot hatch. What would you recommend?

    • @woodsy555
      @woodsy555 8 років тому

      +Robbie Jones the fiesta st is still the best overall package imo but so many drive them the new 208 gti by Peugeot sport looks a good choice also but quite a bit more expensive than the st

    • @R9L4j
      @R9L4j 8 років тому +1

      +nigel woods Glad you've said this because I've brought an ST last month and it was the best decision I've made. Absolutely stunning car which is such powerful engine that pulls in every gear

    • @woodsy555
      @woodsy555 8 років тому +1

      yeah I'm also looking for a new small hot hatch can't decide at moment but yeah I've drove the st its an awesome little car but i will find it hard getting rid my clio 182 which is probably the best fun car I've ever owned but maybe the st is on top my list also.

    I only asked because on the partners website all the vxr models have turbo but when you go on to the new corsa vxr it doesn't mention it.

    Unless you live in Germany and have the benefit of the limitless speed autobahns the VXR is too much, too expensive in almost every respect, not only to purchase but also to maintain particularly if you live in any other European country besides Germany where exceeding the speed limit by 20 to 30 miles can bring about heavy fines ... Hence the GSI less 50 bhp but also far more budget friendly in every respect and unless you're an aficionado of rally driving who thinks that anything under 350 bhp is a weak and slow engine the Corsa GSI is the perfect compromise between fun and good sense. I own a Corsa OPC with 1.0 t engine and 115 bhp and all the extras and I can tell you that for me it's enough of a compromise between comfort and fun driving.

  • @oddities-whatnot
    @oddities-whatnot 4 роки тому

    Fuel economy of 37 mpg is fine considering its 202 bhp. What are people expecting ? 50 mpg ? Some people are just idiots. I had a 140 bhp Abarth and that does even less MPG if you drive it spiritedly. These are fast hatchbacks. Want economy ? Get a Clio diesel or something. As for cheaper plastics lower down in the cabin, so what ? I usually have my hands on the wheel when im driving and looking out the window, not faffing about in the footwell ! Obsession in this country with interior materials. Look closely at premium cars and you will see they are still mass produced cars with trim that is made to look good but on inspection is pretty crap. Evoque is a prime example. Thin covering over the door panels. Merc A class, not the very new one but 16 plate model, the centre console side trims next to your legs, put you fingers on the inside edge and its rough and sharp, proper cheap rubbish. I could go on but people are easily fooled by a fancy badge

    Arguably the worst looking VXR car ever made, giving the first generation Astra VXR a run for its money in the ugly department. You would never think that the same company that made the new GTC VXR made this monstrosity.
