Some dogs are guard dogs for livestock. Some like to be outside. We have an outside dog, we just make sure to give him attention and shelter etc, also he plays with our other dogs, or hangs with the calf etc. (he has some other animals that He really likes and will actually lay and play with) He also has an awesome coat in winter, and our climate is pretty temperate. We spend a good deal of time doing stuff outside, and take him with us on errands etc, so outside dogs can live a pretty nice life.
I agree. You shouldn’t have a dog if you’re going to keep it outside, especially if it’s alone. Dogs are pack animals, social animals & should be kept inside with the family, of which it is a pack member.

For people that live in cold conditions, being able to let your dog be outside comfortably in the cold is a pretty nice thing to have. Lazy dog owners will leave their dogs out in the cold to fend for themselves, thinking that theyre animals and they can handle subzero temps.

For all of the people confused as to why anyone would make a dog life outside. I live in a very small house in the middle of the woods with multiple large dogs. If I kept them all inside they'd fight, they're break things, they'd be stressed and uncomfortable, really just awful in general. Outside they have room to play and they can use the bathroom when ever they please without waking me up or waiting for me to come home. Its not cruel to have a dog that lives mostly outside, in most cases its more cruel to keep your dog inside. Its not like I shove my dog outside when ever I feel like it and leave them to die in the cold, either. Questioning why you would ever put your dog outside is like questioning why you should let a child out of a closet sized room.

We had a German Shepherd mix that hated coming in. He had a very dense thick coat. I believe he just got too warm. We bought the heated floor thing. He pulled that thing out of his house. He hated it. My husband made him a insulated dog house and was kept under our carport with other weather barriers. That dog loved his house. My his also spent many hours outside daily with this dog. His inside visits were short. He just didn't care for it. Weird dog.

that 1st one is a great idea, maybe reflective vest like a construction worker could also work to insure if your dog get away at the park, forest, or does a Houdini off his leash on a walk they will be less likely to be hit by a car:)
