    Thank you. The slightly larger 24" wheels make a big difference in speed and still keep it very portable, much smaller than a 26" folder. The Eclipse X20 is the perfect bike to take on the bus or toss in the trunk of your car and take to the park for a few fast loops. -Bert

    You have to see it in person, its a piece of art. The 24" wheels make it really fast, darn close to a full blown road racer. -Bert

    The Dahon MU Uno and Dahon Speed Uno are single speed bikes with coaster brakes. The most compact is the Brompton at 21x22" but doesn't have coaster brakes.

    Just got my hands on one of these babies and its Sweeeeeet!! If am you are used to riding very high quality bikes you will fell right at home on this. The build quality and level of components are just as good as you are hoping them to be. I have had it out on a couple of rides and I like to reply to a few questions that I often see floating around about these bikes. Is it fast? Yes - its reasonably fast, but not AS fast as a road bike. Claiming that it is is marketing BS. Is it agile - YES - and much more so than a 27" racer or 29"mtb. I am 6"3 so is it big enough for me? Absolutely, but you will not get that Aero position because the reach is not long enough for that. I particular went for the Eclipse rather then the Verge due to my height. 24" to me is a great compromise in my view and that is why I hunted down a nice second hand version of this exact bike. The 26" is just too big for folding an commuting. Is it fun? Very much so! And the funny thing is that I have some pretty cool bikes in my garage but the TERN is the one that turn heads - There is something so appealing about the design - its just pretty! Any down sides? Well on this version you compromise on discs brakes, BUT in all honesty I do like disc breaks but I dont recall ever having problems with stopping power with older bikes I have owned that had V-breaks or even cantilever or older roadbike breaks. Today people will claim that only disc brakes can stop in rainy weather but I now for a fact that that is not the case. These brakes are more than fine! This is cool bike to own and I am so happy I finally managed to acquire on, making my work commute but train/bike that much more cool and fun.

    Tern Verge series. Building a bike by yourself can save a lot of money. I had built several MTBs and folding bikes. I ride a 14'' folding bike and a 26'' Lapierre MTB at present.

    I hear NYC residents are notorious for taking cabs and subways to get from point A to point B. Not major car drivers, but this may be presumptuous on my part. A bike like this could work in a pinch if not traveling long distances from home to work and if the price is right can be less costly than using a car.

    • @nycewheels
      @nycewheels  10 років тому

      New Yorkers' tastes are as multifarious as their options, but increasingly bikes are becoming a popular option to get around. The Eclipse X20 is very high-end folder, which could be ridden across the country if that's what the rider wanted to do, but there are many great bikes that are a little cheaper and totally sufficient for shorter city commutes. I would recommend the Link d8: www.nycewheels.com/tern-folding-bike-link-d8.html - Jack

      Hi, the rider in this video is 6' 2" with an inseam of 36 inches. At your height you should be fine on most folding bikes. The Tern Eclipse X20 is a great bike for daily commutes, is very fast, and also features very nice components. Unlike most folding bikes which have 20 inch wheels, the eclipse features 24 inch wheels which make this bike very comfortable to ride. I've been riding this bike for about a month ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxwC0IIeIomGQVeBWg-kKJaToZkLEFIA2W and a half now and I think it's fantastic. It helps me get to work on time every day since I'm able to fit it inside of public transportation rush hour. The price is great too, people are always shocked when they ask me how much I paid for the fold up and I tell them "200". It's easy to fold and installation when it ships is insanely easy. All you have to install when the bike arrives is one foot pedal, everything else is done for you. I do recommend you carry some sort of wrench to tighten any loose screws on the handle bar and seat whenever they get a little bit loose. Other than that I think it's a fantastic bike. Easily fits in the home, can fit inside a car trunk and can even fit in subway rush hour.

    Would you recommend this bike over, say the Tern Verge X10 as a companion to a Brompton M6R? I currently love commuting to work on my Brommie, but come spring and summer, I think I'd want something faster to take on weekends. I know the X10 is a 20" bike and this is a 24" but is it worth the $400 price difference? I guess the Eclipse might be more durable and better suited to handling potholes (not that I'd purposely want to ride into one of those?) :-)

    • @nycewheels
      @nycewheels  10 років тому +1

      I think the tern eclipse X20 would make a great companion to the Brompton- much faster than the Tern Verge X10, fit with great components, and you're right, the 24 inch wheels really make for a smoother ride over rougher terrain. - Jack

    • @nycewheels
      @nycewheels  10 років тому +1

      Hi noMotive, the X20 has an excellent frame and a very wide gear range for climbing. If needed, you should be able to stand up on the pedals and really crank on the bike to get up inclines at a good pace - Jack

    I was wondering if fenders are available for this bike and water bottle rack??? You also mentioned in the review that you can install a rack either in the front, back, or both making it a true city commuter like the Eclipse S11i. is this true?

    • @nycewheels
      @nycewheels  10 років тому

      Hi Sashimi272, yes a rack can be installed either in the front or the back of the Tern Eclipse x20 and this water bottle is compatible: www.nycewheels.com/tern-folding-bike-bottlecage.html
      We do not sell 24 inch fenders separately, but you should be able to find some online or through a local dealer. All the best - Jack

    Also on your website it says "fastest folding bike on the market" does that refer to actual speed or how fast you can fold it

    • @nycewheels
      @nycewheels  10 років тому

      This is referring to the speed of the bike itself. The Eclipse X20 has gear inches 25 to 107, allowing it to go faster than most other folding bikes which are geared lower. But If you're looking for the fastest folding bike for the price, the Dahon Formula is just as fast as this one and just had a price drop. Definitely worth checking out: www.nycewheels.com/dahon-folding-bike-formula.html - Jack

    Could you compare the verge x20 and eclipse x20? Thanks

    • @nycewheels
      @nycewheels  10 років тому

      Hi Reza, both the eclipse x20 and Verge X20 have extremely high quality components, but the Tern Verge X20 is a step above the eclipse. The Verge is lighter weight, at just 20.5 lbs compared to 23.6, and uses SRAM red components that are top top quality. The Verge will also have a smaller folding size as it uses 20 inch wheels instead of 24 inch wheels. The Eclipse however will be slightly faster due to it's larger wheels and higher gear range. Tern Eclipse x20 is awesome. But i don't have the budget for this monster. Looking for alternative which is the new Tern Eclipse P18. Do you have any review on this?

    • @nycewheels
      @nycewheels  10 років тому

      Hi Kok, the Tern Eclipse P18 will be a little slower and heavier than the X20, weighing 28.6 lbs and fit with a lower gear range. In my opinion, the X20 would be a better folding bike for the price. If you are interested in a cheaper alternative, I would highly recommend the Dahon Formula S18, which has great parts, is very fast and just had a price reduction: www.nycewheels.com/dahon-formula-s18-review-ef.html - Jack

    I like 20" bikes, as the range of available tires is broader, particularly things like quality and puncture resistance. Also, smaller is lighter and more aero by default. Just put more teeth on the chainring. Same with the 451 wheel, fine for out and out racing as for tire selection, but in general I am not happy with the available tires. I like wider and puncture resistant tires as they are more street practical. 451 tires / rims are often too narrow and vulnerable.

  • @EvendimataE
    @EvendimataE 10 років тому

    do you really need that much gears for a 20 inch wheels?

    • @nycewheels
      @nycewheels  10 років тому

      Because the wheels are smaller on folding bikes, they are geared a little higher so that they feel like regular bikes to ride. You're right many riders don't need so many gears, and there are a wide range of bikes with 3-7 speeds, but the Eclipse caters more towards those who really appreciate a bike with great parts, and great transmission that is responsive at faster speeds. - Jack
