My gf if a Delta and I came across this so I had to watch it. She’s a phenomenal woman so I can see why she’d want to be a part of these phenomenal women.
Hate it or love it. We, black sororities and fraternities, were and are a positive part of the American narrative. We, herstorically and historically, helped all blacks get to the progress in which we stand today. As a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, I am ever more proud of the fact that we were founded as an organization that sought to make a positive difference in a world that was (and in many ways, still is) against us. This documentary is awesome, insightful, and emotional for me. Thanks for the respect in depicting part of our story.
I have been doing research on DST because of the women on my campus who are deltas. This video was so inspiring I felt so connected and passionate with the organization's views. Thank you very much
This was an EXCELLENT documentary! As a Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, I became elated, emotional and enlightened in the particular details outlined through out this film. The main message that solidified my commitment our Sorority is the evolution of change for service to the community and the world. Although the “flower” had a different meaning than mentioned, this was beautifully symbolically shown. Thank you for this presentation, Bravo and well done!!
Powerful! As a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, this just sent chills through me! Deltas are here to work not socialize! OO-OOP sorors!
Those women were so together and different back then so classy and respectful, I'm not talking about the just the sorority, the values, but black women in general it was inspiring to watch the love and respect they had for each other aNd their dedication to uplifting their race, we need that back ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!
I am a 30 year member of Alpha Phi Alpha and enjoyed this history. But still, I am an AKA's son and I ponder how the decision to split the organization must have caused great distress for Nellie Quander and the women of AKA.
Greggory1987 Right. Can you imagine?! They didn’t want to SPLIT they wanted to dissolve and change the name, colors, bylaws of the already existing Sorority! A sorority they each pledged their lives to.
Time to call a spade a ♠️ - Those women were so "love stricken" by the Ques who were founded on the campus, they replicated most of the changes to be like them and our AKA Founders/Incorporators were not having it. The End
@@Sexyaka19 Our Founders of Delta Sigma Theta wanted to have. A VOICE in the Women’s Suffrage Movement! The Deltas wanted more than Tea Parties and to determine their lives not based on whom they were married to! Where were the AKAs in the Women’s Suffragette March? At home clutching their pearls!
@@Sexyaka19 ma'am. Not you saying Deltas wanted to copy a frat when AKA is literally one letter off from APhiA. LMAO Deltas wanted to WORK--to CHANGE the TOTAL ANGLE of the PURPOSE of Sorority life for Black women. It's right there in the name. And be clear: IT WAS THE ENTIRE ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP OF AKA AT THE TIME THAT VOTED UNANIMOUSLY TO DO SO. Already graduated AKAs wanted the organization THEY were part of to remain. Prior to 1912 they were a social group that focused on networking at tea parties. The shift in social unrest was a call to action. You can attempt to call things spades, but HISTORICAL *FACT* AND DOCUMENTED *EVIDENCE* HAS SLAPPED THE BIG JOKER ON THE TABLE, BOO. And we're not even gonna get into the "love stricken" Lucy Slowe and George W. Led here because my mama got me a piece of artwork with the world delta on it and it depicts a beautiful black woman holding her hands up forming a triangle with lighting bolts coming from her heart. She’s sitting on a beautiful elephant with stars in the sky and lighting behind her. She feels so strong and beautiful and she feels like a goddess . I wanted to find the meaning behind it and I think it’s connected for sure
I know I’m 10 years late and I’m 16.. I’ve been researching about sororities and colleges I wanted to go to. I just got done watching “ The twenty pearls” movie on UA-cam and it was really inspiring and emotional.. My nana was supposed to go to Howard university but she got pregnant with my uncle and she’s helped me out with everything I need to know. My coach is also an aka so I’m learning a lot from her as well.. if anyone wants to educate me on anything I’ll gladly take it !. And also there’s is no “beef” whatsoever with ANY sorority!! It’s a sisterhood and they all have different impacts on different things
I pledged Delta Sigma Theta long ago. My best advice is do your research beyond what you see on college campuses. Yes, I'm biased. But go to all the websites and official public online domains and see what the sororities do AFTER college. Undergrad is to train you for alumni membership. Don't pledge either just because your friends or family are leaning toward one organization or the other. Yes, we all do much of the same things, but only one may fit your personality and life goals. And please don't post which sorority you're interested in publicly. Keep it to yourself so folks stay out of your business.
Wow! This video really enlightened me on the reasons why there are sororities n fraternity's n specifically what Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. stands for. Its not about stepping, n having greek letters and wearing the colors, its about making a change in our country, its about sisterhood n standing together for the cause.
Choose this day who you will serve. Luke 12:2-3 "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known. Therefore whatever you have spoken in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have spoken in the ear in inner rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops."
I wonder why this film never got distribution? You all should try again. I think Netflix or OWN will be perfect platforms to showcase the doc. Whatever happened to the painting? Do you guys plan on doing the others orgs? I read somewhere it was a part of your long term plan. Lastly, what happened to the lawsuit with Delta, did they drop it? I wonder if things would have been different if you were in a fraternity. Oh well. Thanks in advance for your reply.
Proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and every time I watch this video it brings me so much joy and reminds me about how much I wish that I was fortunate enough to meet my founders while they were still alive. Very well constructed documentary.
very nice film. I learned so much. I like what the narrator said about the Deltas "they wanted to serve more than socialize". That's what the AKAs always appeared to be to me. A social club for pretty melanated feminine(only) women, nothing more. My only confusion is why black fraternities and sororities use greek letters rather than hieroglyphs. The part about the black deans stood out to me. Its like corporations using a black face(s) to sell products while the owner/board of directors are all white.... But I really like the history of DST and what they represent.
Black fraternities and sororities use Greek letters because they are college organizations. Much of the collegiate experience and related organizations are built around Greek or Latin words. Why cause Europe convinced the world Greece was the center of civilization but the Greeks went to the world's first universities in Africa. But that's a whole other topic. Notice your honor societies have Greek letters, your Cumma, Summa, whatever is from Latin aka Greek languaging. The Divine 9 ain't trying to be white. It's just following collegiate tradition. PERIOD!
@alicefuller3071 Trust Queen I'm quite aware that Africa is the cradle of civilization and the role ancient blacks played and continue to play in society. Thank you for the clarity. Ase.
After watching the history of the NAACP which resulted in the Boule, which then brought in the 9 Black fraternities and sororities, I no longer think these institutions are what we need. It’s still a form of exclusion…. This is not what the Black community needs…
In my opinion, Honorable Elders - you would cry and shake your head of the classlessness going on in today's time. I LOVE THESE ERAS - SO PROUD, FULL OF LIFE, AND DIGNIFIED! Thanks for the upload
I never pledged, but wanted to pledge Delta Sigma Theta. Got too busy with studies, and timing of going to college one year at a campus extension with no Greeks ruled out pledging for me. Then career time meant no time. Nevertheless, I shall always have a special place in my heart for the Women of Delta Sigma Theta as long as I live. Totally women of substance!
Corrie Wynns just wanted to say you can always look into joining a graduate chapter. As long as you have your BA. Go to the national website and look up your local grad chapter. Attend events and make your presence known & apply when the time comes. I think it's invite only. Try, try & try again if it doesn't happen the first time. It's never too late to join. I've seen women in their 60s cross. It's a lifetime commitment and journey.
I researched Delta Sigma Theta Sorority when I wanted to join and the information I found then was enough to know my plan was the right one, but this video really proves my point. I was inactive for a while but Im so glad to join the beautiful, hardworking ladies of my Alumnae Chapter continue what was set in 1913.....A member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority 27 years and counting.....
Do you sororities really don’t care who is the president they will sell out our black community regardless they did it back then and they continue to do it today what a shame
Be wary of people who are spreading misinformation and internalizing and caring on “beef” that’s been long gone. All shade between orgs is in fun and light fun banter. All D9 orgs are important and apart of black history!
wow this is so informative I absolutely love the fact that it is founded on service and not socialism ."this is not about our loyalty to friendship but our loyalty to an idea, an idea greater then us all. SERVICE.
I enjoyed it. Even though I completed undergrad and post-grad overseas, I still have friends and relatives that think I should join. I am still contemplating. This organization is the reason I wanted to be involved. Not only being different standing out from the crowd but making a difference.
Truly this film was an inspiration. So proud to be part of an organization that had purpose. Every young girl should watch this. We all stand on the shoulders of these women. I'm so proud👏👏👏

Yeah the god Minerva. Hopefully someday you be shown the wisdom of who the oath was to and why the pyramid. The true God will always accept your repentance.
Wow! This film is AMAZING! I wish I’d seen it in the late 90s when I became a member of this awesome sisterhood! My chest is extra poked out! Happy Founder’s Day to my dope sorors!
Great movements, accomplishments, ideas, and theories often are derivatives of something else. However, once the dissolution occurs a new path, direction, the evolving concept creates its own path. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority may have been a derivative of AKA, but the hard work, dedication, and service to the idea of change and the communities that have been impacted by the decision belong to them and only them. Be proud that there were once 22 great women, who you originally allowed into your sorority that changed the world. Their purpose is to be celebrated and not who came first or who came last. If anyone here is stuck on founding dates, remember why you pledged or became a member. It's not about you or Me, it's bigger than any of Us. Standing together is what gives Us strength.
I would love to see all the black sororities. But this documentary is great :)! And I got excepted to Howard. It's great to see my futures school's history.
I just wish that today's women join for the same reason as these woman did years ago. There was not egotistical attitudes, degrading of other woman, wanting popularity. At first I had mix feeling about these organizations but this film clearly speaks what it was founder on. I'm still confuse of whether these thought of themselves as being Christians since the subject of God is never mention
Why would religion be mentioned??? This is about a sorority, not a Sunday school group. Sorority life has nothing to do with the worship of anything or anyone. So what if they weren't Christian anyway? Do you discriminate against those of a different religion than yours?
RQQ. From this film, I have a much more profound appreciation and understanding of DST in particular, and the Civil Rights Movement in general. Thanks DST.
I like this video, but they did not give much credit to other organizations, including AKA. The only org that they spoke of in a positive light, other than themselves, was Omega. There are 2 sides to every story. Id love to see this done for ALL Divine 9 organizations so that one or two mentioned aren't shown as the stand outs.
The first part of the series is this documentary focusing solely on DST & its history. AKA was supposed to be next, as they were working backwards but I believe AKA took issue with production, so all is halted. However this particular documentary/part is about DST. Google it, if you desire
This project was not about any conflicts between the two organizations during the formation of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. the focus was on the role of Delta during the early years of the women's rights movement.
The theme of the documentary is about the formation of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Why would they talk about ALL Divine 9? I am certain that they will tell or have told their stories.
Alta J Cannaday I think you meant to reply to his comment, not mine. I described why this documentary only focused on DST. Like I said AKA took issue with the series, and their story so my long time assumption is the rest of the documentaries will not be made
Thank you. My intention was t respond to the gentlemen. After several tries, I am still unable to do so. I appreciate you bringing this to my attention.
BSP really help me to get better understanding of sororities in the D9. Their story was very helpful and touching for me bc I wanted to a better understanding of both sides of the fence esp their area of the women's sufferage march during the year of 1913
BRAVO❤️The film’s documentary content concerning Delta Sigma Theta is excellently compiled and narrated by the Voice of Delta Sigma Theta 😇😇😇. It is more than worthy of a Documentary Academy Award⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Educator, Mr Reddick from Harvard making a comparative statement between Howard and Hampton at that “reflective period” stating ......“Hampton where students were on a schedule, having to do things in a regimented way; very guarded against doing things sort of intellectual” in my opinion is an unfair editorialization. Mr Reddick if the only way you can applaud Howard is to speak in a fast syncopated manner-hoping people wont hear and respond to your comparative insulting statement about Hampton- always one of this nation’s foremost Historically Black Universities- then today is just not your day -nor is tomorrow 😡
I enjoyed this movie, but would like to see the same thing from the AKA's point of view of how and why the organization spllt to form Delta Sigma Theta. 0-six!
AKA doesn't care really. We are about our Father's business over here. This is why I chose AKA. In my experience, the ladies of DST carry a great sense of superiority that often revealed itself through negative remarks about AKA. Continue to chew on what you think happened. You weren't there & we don't care. We're busy changing the world for the better. You'll never hear us discussing the matter with disrespect. Our founders didn't do it. It's not in our DNA. We don't pass this narrative from generation to generation. We are free!
Rona Williams ma’am idk your experience but literally all of D9 throws shade, out of fun. Do not generalize the whole sorority because your description is just not true
Cliff Notes version - Basically, the Ques came on the scene (yard), the women dealing with them became inspired (whipped) and wanted to be the female sorority (version) of them. Nellie Quander said NO because AKAs LEAD and do not chase, nor would ever change their existence for a man, so Myra and them left. AKA became incorporated and DST was formed. The End 🤣
I like when a documentary attempts to tell the truth without obvious bias. I am sure that with more funding( which the African American community have) a longer film with more information could be made. I am especially interested in a few more years past the 1920's and why there are still a need for recruitment for the organizations.
definitely a great piece of history every HBCU student and sorority interest should see.....on another note, can someone tell me the name of the movie in this documentary?
I actually came here searching for deception on a covert opp but this was a great presentation 💯..Make sure your kids have a understanding of good and evil and the truths about ourselves taught TO US BY US from proper research and not bias opinions

Thank you to everyone involved in this project. I am sharing this!
As a HU Alum,I must say that this doc was tasteful and very well put together.
Absolutely amazing documentary that should be shown in classrooms. So informative. The narratives voice is perfect. Thank you.
I am a Sigma Man and this documentary about the history of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was extremely interesting and enlightening!
My gf if a Delta and I came across this so I had to watch it. She’s a phenomenal woman so I can see why she’d want to be a part of these phenomenal women.
Eye opening! Thank you for creating this gem!
It's Very demonic!! Don't lose your soul its not worth it.

This has been very helpful to me. Thank you.
Loved Ms. Tunie's narration of our story! 😍❤
this is absolutely amazing! i love learning about different orgs and their history best one yet

Yesss to all this ❤
WOW, I knew there was a reason I love DST. Those 22 really started something great. Those ladies were more worried about me then them.
I have been looking for this movie, and it has been sold out for years! Thanks for uploading it :)
LMAO
Deltas wanted to WORK--to CHANGE the TOTAL ANGLE of the PURPOSE of Sorority life for Black women. Cook; Cook was the University secretary that pushed AKA's incorporation papers through 20 minutes ahead of DST's, so that DST would not have the distinction of being first--even though they completed & turned in the requirements first. If you wanna attempt to bring facts to light, bring them ALL, honey. It pays to accurately know your history, and have corroborating EVIDENCE. I don't know how much y'all cover in your abbreviated intake process, but this is why ours is so long. I recommend you invest in historical literature with researched footnotes over salacious gossip if you want to speak on the inception of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Currently, you don't have the range, so kindly keep your nonsense to YOURSELF. Have a great day sister greek, respectfully. #KnowYourRoots
@@VoteHeaux Being one letter off is different from trying to be the female version of a male Fraternity Boo. This documentary and your history books speak of the truth I stated.
As a delta this video is important and informative... we must truly understand the founders vision and instill those principals in our young daughters so that she too can keep the founders vision alive for the future generation...if you don't stand for something you will fall for anything 🐘🔺

I love this video. So glad that I am a part of this wonderful Sorority!
@@alicefuller3071 thank you so much for telling me, I’m just still trying to figure out what I want to do when I get to college..
A Plus, this is very good and much needed...
I absolutely enjoyed watching this documentary! I'm blessed to be apart of such an illustrious organization! Oo-oop my Sorors!!
Saadiha Alford Amen to that soror!! OO~OOP!
Wow! This video really enlightened me on the reasons why there are sororities n fraternity's n specifically what Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. stands for. Its not about stepping, n having greek letters and wearing the colors, its about making a change in our country, its about sisterhood n standing together for the cause.
Most social groups start out like that.
Well put.
The reason there is sororitys and fraternitys actually has to do that word enlightened or rather 'illuminat'ed... Hint ... hint..

Luke 12:2-3
"Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known. Therefore whatever you have spoken in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have spoken in the ear in inner rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops."
I am so glad this project has been completed and released! It sheds great light on the subject of African American Sororities.
The documentary is informative, inspirational, and inspiring. Salute to the founders of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc.

This was amazing and it really explained in the most visual way, the history of DST.
very nice film.
I seen a public viewing of this documentary some years ago. It is still very enlightening.
True that
This is pretty good, but I got to stop it so I can finish my classwork for Week 5 at South College. I will be watching this after I finish my work!
You still have time. Check your local Alumnae Chapter.

Finally! I've been searching for this forever!
You can't just join... It's exclusive... It excludes most people
Do you think God will be against an organization dedicated to SERVICE?....service to humanity?
thankyou so much for uploading this movie
Their story was very helpful and touching for me bc I wanted to a better understanding of both sides of the fence esp their area of the women's sufferage march during the year of 1913
This made me cry, lol. I respect this org so much.
As a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha.. this was great!
BRAVO❤️The film’s documentary content concerning Delta Sigma Theta is excellently compiled and narrated by the Voice of Delta Sigma Theta 😇😇😇. It is more than worthy of a Documentary Academy Award⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Educator, Mr Reddick from Harvard making a comparative statement between Howard and Hampton at that “reflective period” stating ......“Hampton where students were on a schedule, having to do things in a regimented way; very guarded against doing things sort of intellectual” in my opinion is an unfair editorialization.

I loved it! Very insightful. Thank you for sharing. :-)
Where can I find that painting of the founders doing work in the living room? It's Beautiful!
