Boba Fett Helmet: Episode 13, Airbrushing

- So we finally get to the airbrushing stage. Like I said in the video, I go with how I feel when mixing the paint, just ensure its not to thin as you will have a problamatic finish. If its to thick it just will not come through the nossel. Take your time applying it in even coats, and makes sure its dry before you remove the tape. The hardest thing with a paintjob like is the temptation to touch lol.
Next video we will look at the final layer of the back pannels, and move onto masking up the difficult mandibles.
Colour list, all humbrol,
majority from terminalfettler from the Dented Helmet,
Back pannels: Silver rattle can, grey 106, beige 28 misted with 94, green 78+96
Dome: Silver rattle can, grey 79, green 78
Kill stripes : Yellow 154, misted with orange 84
Mandibles and trim:silver 11, grey 79, purple 73+104, red 60, red 73
R/H ear: silver 11, grey 79, sand 94
L/H ear: red 60, grey 28+64 (1:1), green 159+78
We will get into what is needed for weathering when we get to thats stage.
Thanks for watching, please ldont forget to ike comment and subscribe!!!
This is the technique I used on my armour, just make sure you use nice even coats with a smooth movement. The silver and yellow is not really as important, just get the green nice and even. Dont try to coat each layer in one go, take it slow with light coats and you will be fine. Then mist it with some black. I can show some of the amour in the next video if it would help.
I have a spare bit of armor that needs painting so I can do that no problem. I would have to finish these helmets first though. Dont worry to much with hard parts like the armor and helmet as if you mess up you can easily sand it off an start again if it goes south.
Good to know and thanks for the insight. Looking forward to the next vid!
Welsh, do you thin the humbrols at all? Researching it online, the suggestion is mix humbrols 1:1 with thinner, but I hear (and have experienced) mixed results doing that.
It sounds like you may have put down to much paint, Like I said nice thin layers are always better than one heavy coat. Are you also using the same make paint for each colour as sometime a certain brand wont work with another. Also try scuffing up the layer underneat with wire wool before you paint the next layer, it gives the paint something to bite into. I used to use windsor and newton but the humbrol is easier to see. Both are very similar its just the way you pull it off, slower the better.
I find that when I try to remove masking fluid before my paint is cured that the edges of the new layer that should stay on the helmet peel up a bit? Is there a way to address this? Also, does your mask stay together in one peel better than other brands? My Windsor & Newton doesn't like to come off together.
Can you show the double action and compressor aswell please warrior, for the serious modder
Yeah I tend to thin them out, no where near 1:1 though although thats what some people say, maybe three parts paint, one part thinner. Some paint you wont want to add any at all, if you watch me painting the kill stripes, the yellow I use is straight from the jar and its still way to thin with no thinner. You need the consistency to be a little thicker than milk.
Is the paint colour list you have listed here for a ROTJ bucket?
how come I found this just now? :o I'll use your vids to attempt my take on Jodo Kast helmet :)
Why do you remove the masking fluid? can't you just keep adding more masking fluid for each colour than at the end remove it all?
How long does one of those cans of propellant last?
Are you a member of TDH (thedentedhelmet)?
I can do when im in the studio, everything Im doing here is being done at home. Once I have finished this I can do a tutorial on using a proper setup.
Where's the Gray 147 layer?
