This song is a love letter to their fans during Covid, when concerts where cancelled and people could not meet. They live streamed a hole concert in 2021 from behind closed doors for their fans on 11 Feb- my 68th birthday.

Still moves me deeply every time I hear this. This was a song for the fans, released when the plague was keeping us all indoors and seprated from family and friends. It was, for me, a song that caused me to actually sob when I heard it - but that was a positive catharsis for me as I'd held in a ton of tension, sadness and loneliness for the 6 months before it was released as well as trying to be positive and supportive for friends in the same position. The release of all that was thanks to these beautiful women and this thoughtful song which told us not to forget that, one day soon, we'd all (us fans and the band members) be able to meet up at live gigs once again and not to give in or give up. Saiki made a speech before this performance (which was part of a streamed concert without an audience due to restrictions at the time, which they did a few times during the lockdowns) which explains everything about this song: “We were supposed to meet you today. For the first time in a year, we thought we could meet you all, those of you who could come to see us, but we can’t meet you in the end. I’m sorry. Even though it’s not my fault. We have been having days of turmoil for about a year. In the beginning, we were very surprised because we hadn’t experienced it before, and we had no experience of not being able to meet others in person. We were sad, but we found we shouldn’t be sad in this situation. When I saw you masters and princesses on social media, you were more depressed than us, and we thought that’s terrible. We Band-Maid have been thinking about how to cheer up all of you in the last year. We truly wanted to meet you at Nippon Budokan, but it’s impossible because of C***D, so let’s wait for the day when we can meet. And in the last year, during the C***D pandemic, we have become more eager to cheer you up, and we Band-Maid realized again it’s important to give our songs to you. That’s why we wrote this song for Budokan. We made the album also in the pandemic, so it might have a little similar feel, but this song is planned for Nippon Budokan, and we really want to give it to you masters and princesses now. Budokan is not our goal but just a stepping stone. We will perform at bigger venues, and we promise we will bring you there and give you even better songs, so let’s keep it up a little more. This is our present for you masters and princesses. Please listen to it.”

I watched this LIVE, it was during a terrible time for everyone but Band-Maid never stopped bringing light into our lives, this is proof. It's another love letter to their fans keeping our heads high and moving forward, never giving up. This song will ALWAYS have a special meaning for me.

They have written and performed, at least, 3 songs about their feelings for their fans.
Smile which is about how seeing the smiles on their fans faces brings them joy. About Us which is about cheering us up to get through the pandemic. Memorable which was a thank you to the US fans for their love and support during their US 2022 tour which they were unsure just how they would be received after not being able to tour here for 4 years.
I say "at least" since the version of Endless Story they performed at Yokohama Arena puts it too in the realm of songs about their love for their fans. A love which we fans return fully.

“About Us” is hands down, in my personal opinion, Band Maid’s finest slow jam. Powerful, emotional and beautifully written. Just magnificent songwriting.
When Saiki hits the chorus opening “Cries,” it’s as if she pulls every heart string you have and bungee jumps with it.

🐦 In a concert held on Feb. 14th, 2020 *BAND-MAID* announced that they were going to play at *Budokan* on Feb 11th, 2021 but due to Covid the concert was canceled. In the live streaming concert *Saiki* address the fans and said how much *BAND-MAID* missed performing live to their *Masters and Princesses* and was followed up with this song that *BAND-MAID* has _maid_ for their fans. 🐦
And in 2022 the restrictions was lifted and *BAND-MAID* did a 13 city tour of the United States where they got to reunite at last with their fans. 🥲

I saw this on a live stream for its world debut in the wee hours of the morning. Just before they played it, Saiki gave a very somber and heartfelt speech (see the comment from @tonygriffin_). Not knowing Japanese and with her being so serious I thought maybe they were breaking up the band or something. Nope, nothing like they. Just worried when they saw their fans sad and depressed by the pandemic which stopped them from touring, or playing that particular night at the Budokan which they had been looking forward to for a year. So they wanted to cheer everyone up and let them know it won't last forever and they'll still be here when we meet again. It still touches me.

"About Us", in the vein of other great mid-tempo Band-Maid songs like Daydreaming, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, Wonderland, Awkward, Start Over, Mirage, At the Drop of a Hat and Smile, is an amazing song and personal message to their fans - a direction I'm glad to see them add to their journey toward world domination. And we get to hear MISA play the vibe she so enjoys. Their beautiful DVD/BD/CD set with 100 page picture book of this incredible concert is unbelievable! Thanks Owner of Agnes, for bringing "About Us" to your viewers!

Miku’s 5150 really is a good choice for her since she normally uses a lot of overdrive in her tone. Perfect for the rhythm guitar with this style of music. Kanami at this point was playing through her Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier. Also a great choice since she changes tone so radically depending on what the songs call for. I think Misa’s tone would somehow stand out no matter what she was playing through but Orange was her amp of choice in those days. Misa and Kanami have moved on to other gear in the last year or so but Miku seems to be sticking with her EVH. ❤

Shoot I smashed that sub button the first time I saw you reacting if only UA-cam would allow people to sub more then once lol. I’m really glad you chose to do this one. Not enough reactors react to “ About Us “ for some reason. I did it, you have, Chief did, Ryan Mear, Mr Rocknroll etc… a few others.

I want to share with you one discovery of a young talent.
This girl amazes with her voice from a very young age.
Many reactors have made thousands of reactions to her amazing voice.
    React or discover this phenomenon.
To get acquainted, I recommend making a reaction to her performance at the age of 10.
If you don’t see that there is a little girl in front of you, then you hear the voice of a professional vocalist with 20-30 years of singing experience.
So, Diana Ankudinova (10 years old) - Oh, Darling!
The famous hit of the legendary group The Beatles.

You missed the bottle of Jim Beam on Misa's Amp. Yes, the " Barefoot Assassin" will have a swig or two during a gig. Lately, she has abandoned the whiskey for a beer. During their US tours, they had a Misa opening ceremony, where she would crack open the beer in front of the microphone and take a big swig to a cheering crowd.
    😏♥️🎙🎸🥁😎🤘

Did you see the bottle of Jim Beam Bourbon on top of the Orange amp? Back then Misa (bass player) would drink whiskey during the performances and would be drunk by the end of some shows. Kanami (lead guitar) who normally doesn't drink, will sometimes steal some of Misa's whiskey or beer and then shit gets really crazy, lol.

  • @killiansred1000
    @killiansred1000 5 місяців тому +3

You missed something. On top of the Orange stack is a bottle of whiskey. That was Misa’s stage drink, straight up from the bottle. Miku said Misa plays better after a few drinks. Speaking of Miku, the band says she can drink more than anyone else. Keep in mind she’s only 5’1” tall.

"about Us" was written for the fans and the "Us" refers to the band and the fans; about their mutual respect and how they make the music happen _together_ . It always reminds me of the bond between Kristin Hersh (of Throwing Muses) and her audience: ua-cam.com/video/rfjDDKyKv3U/v-deo.htmlsi=bGXq4n9aOGfDu7CC&t=255 .
To my ears, Misa (bass) and Akane (drums) lay down some fantastic bluesy groove here. Kanami first starts off on the acoustic on a stand, and then ventures somewhat into country/folk-rock with her guitar. And the harmonies between Saiki and Miku are pure ear candy.
