Splendid interview! Fascinating background, to both Elizabeth's entrée to the lute and the instrument itself. It would seem this is the same lute her parents obtained for her at the age of 12; it looks to be in meticulous condition. Most interesting to come to know the differences between lute and guitar, not just the strings, but the fingering vs picking with the nails. Also interesting to observe Elizabeth subtly wetting her fingertips against her tongue before playing--to make a more secure contact with the strings I imagine, somewhat like resin? (Just guessing.) This inspires me to listen to and rewatch my 2 disc edition (DVD & CD) of "The Journey & The Labyrinth, the music of John Dowland" performed by Sting & Edin Karamazov. It's been years since I last listened/watched it, but recall how interesting it was listening to Sting discuss what attracted him to Dowland and the desire to learn the lute and give Dowland's music a go. I seem to recall my impression that his efforts were not entirely mellifluous, but worthy nevertheless.
I look forward to the DVS posting Amarylli's concert with Ms. Pallett and Hannah Grove that later followed this interview.

Wonderful sound of the lute; has the effect of the 'peau de buffle' register on some harpsichords. I suppose the leather plectra on the keyboard are meant to mimic the soft finger.
