Never interrupt an enemy making a mistake. Nervous Pavlov reaction to Zelenskyy Kursk misadventure would show Russian weakness, but here Russians showed maturity, good judgment and willingness to exploit enemy's mistakes. Zelenskyy already wasted 12,000 troops and tons of equipment that could have been used at a vital Donbass front that is rapidly crumbling. Now he's losing these villages in the middle of nowhere, he managed to capture at such a staggering cost. This misadventure proved to be another unmitigated disaster for Ukraine.

Great factual updates, rediculous analysis. To suggest Ukraine paused the Kursk offensive because they didn't have authority to use missiles to strike deeper into Russia is rediculous. Pay attention, Ukraine is not targeting military installations with its long range drones, it's attacking civilian infrastructure and residences. This has nothing to do with the Kursk offensive which was an attempt to eke more money weapons out of the West, and to capture the Kursk npp. It failed, huge numbers of elite troops are being attritioned. Ukraine doesn't operate long range missile systems supplied by the West, the West does, so those attacks will be nato attacking Russian lands. Good luck with that nato. It is the final escalation, outside of this the West has nothing to bring to bear except nukes. They see silly enough to use them, but they are being played by zelensky. That's how dumb western leaders are. Nothing will stop a Russian victory in this conflict, even direct nato involvement will merely finish off nato, and western Europe.

      @yvonneollivier7088 Місяць тому +19

I don't see that Dima contradicts your accurate assessment re the purpose of the Kursk offensive, nor the immediate aims they had, much less that it didn't work. He knows that they attack civilians.
But I think he may have a point. Despite heavy losses, had it brought about an immediate consent for involved Western forces, just as you say, to strike into Russia long range, then leadership might have kept them at it.
They'd not care about loss of even their elite forces, if fully bringing in NATO and creating that wider war seemed imminent. Imo, of course.
Zelensky likely doesn't mind losing Ukrainians. He is still fat and happy, pampered pet of the West.
In fact, since he has presided over selling what remains of Ukrainian land and resources to foreign investors, he may feel safer as more Ukrainians die.
Your assessment of Western leadership is spot on, I think, for the most part, it's terminal stupidity.
Some surely know what they are trying to bring on, and look forward to surviving in luxury bunkers. These evil ones do also hope to destroy the Western peoples. Their lust for power and for blood is insane.

No, they are terror weapons to be used against Russian civilians and, if they are used, that is likely to be the beginnings of war between Russia and the US and/or the UK. Heaven help us. I believe the same. The operation got stalled because they removed at least a part of the better units to the Eastern front where the Russians advance over fortifications nicely, eliminating years preparation. Kursk was a gamble and that gamble seem no to work. Russians outnumber the Ukrainians and it seems to me that only one part of the front stalled - Krivoy Rog from the Russian side, perhaps because of moving soldiers to Kursk from there. That would also mean that the regulars in Kursk direction get a tactical boost and experience from the veterans so I can imagine that the final balance is that the Kursk offensive is negative to the Ukrainians and positive to the Russians.

Ukraine is losing badly and they know it. The USA and EU countries have almost as much to lose as the Ukrainians do. The main reason Ukraine launched the Kursk offensive was to convince their NATO backers to either give them more aid / capabilities or better yet to put NATO boots on the ground. With the failure to penetrate any deeper into Russia Ukraine can make the argument that if only they had long range fires they could penetrate deeper into Russia but remember the preferred objective is to get NATO boots on the ground and that's the ulterior motive to get long range missiles to strike deep into Russia. It means fuck all operationally but they can terrorize Russians into doing something like removing a Ukrainian city or two ... preferably Russian speaking cities I would imagine.

Zelensky didn't try to prevent the conflict through diplomacy because he lacks honor and integrity.
In 2014 there was a coup. Soon after, there was a massacre in Odessa (dozens of people were burned alive). Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were treated as subhuman. Their language and culture was being oppressed. A civil war broke out due to the rise in ethnic tensions. For 8 years the Ukrainian military was indiscriminately shelling civilians living in Donbas.
If Zelensky honored the Minsk agreement and pledged neutrality, none of this would have happened. The 8 year civil war would have ended and Donbas would have remained part of Ukraine. War is the ultimate failure of diplomacy.
Zelensky, Poroshenko, Merkel and Hollande admitted that Ukraine had no intention to honor the Minsk agreements.
Who didn't want peace? Who advised against the 2022 peace talks in April? Hint: someone visited Zelensky in Kiev at that time.
Russia's national security was compromised once NATO began to expand eastwards. Russia clearly stated that Ukraine joining NATO was a red line (November 2021) and unfortunately this concern was never taken seriously. The Russians openly stated: if nothing changes, we will be forced to act in order to defend our national security. Enhancing the national security of one country at the expense of another is unacceptable. The Russians have legitimate security concerns.
20th September, 2021: Ukraine launched military drills with US and NATO.
NATO is not a defensive alliance. NATO illegally bombed Yugoslavia (a direct violation of the U.N. Charter).
We should never forget what they did to Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq etc.
Who blew up the pipeline causing an environmental disaster?
Zelensky banned all opposition and arrested a leading priest.
Zelensky tried to invoke article 5 under false pretenses. Remember the incident in Poland.
Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were treated as subhuman. Their language and culture was being oppressed.
Poroshenko said, “Our children will go to schools and kindergartens-theirs will hide in the basements”.
Russians will never forget the 2014 Odessa massacre. The whole world needs to know about it.
Why was Denis Kireev eliminated? He was a member of Ukraine's negotiating team during the peace negotiations. He wanted to help his country.
Ukraine has a hit list. They target artists, journalists and ordinary citizens. Hundreds of children are on this list. 13 year old Faina Savenkova was placed on this list.
Pink Floyd's Roger Waters is on this list. Jimmy Dore (American stand-up comedian, podcaster) and Aaron Maté (Canadian writer and journalist) are on this list.
There is evidence that Ukrainian troops have been indiscriminately shelling civilians in Donbas (they used petal mines and targeted areas where there was no military presence).
The azov troops trapped in the azovstal steelworks in Mariupol used human shields. They refused to allow civilians to leave despite of humanitarian corridors being present.
Russia held a proposed cease fire in order for the civilians to leave, but azov would not allow the civilians to leave.
Ukraine has committed many acts of terrorism (car bombs and other forms of assassination). Darya Dugina (journalist) R.I.P.
The first terrorist attack on the Kerch bridge killed the truck driver and the individuals in the adjacent car (innocent civilian victims).
The second terrorist attack on the Kerch bridge killed two parents and severely injured their young daughter.
I have done a lot of research and it took me a long time to write this comment. I have stated a lot of facts and I have given my honest opinion.
I have provided a brief summary of events that took place. In order to explain this whole situation in great detail, a book would need to be written.
Hopefully someone will write an UNBIASED book, stating facts and allowing the readers to form their own judgments. Everything I said can be fact checked and verified.

I suppose much is due to his ignorance of western politics and suppositions, but the reason isn’t as important as the fact that his geopolitical analysis and predictions have been horrible since summer of ‘22. I remember it really hitting me and taxing my patience back then when there were rumors of an immanent Ukrainian attack on Pridnestrovie. Dima was reporting on it like it was going to be invaded and the only question was when, not if. Since then I’ve grown less and less patient with such prognostications. Few strategists expect Ukraine to hold the Kursk territory for more than a few months. Strategically, this diversionary operation failed to stop the steady erosion of Ukrainian positions in the S/SE. Tactically, the Kursk offensive was moderately successful but costly. I get the impression Ukrainian forces are depleted and overwhelmed. The battle has turned in Z's favor, and unless NATO is willing to risk direct intervention (very dangerous), Ukraine will Inevitably lose the occupied territories. A negotiated settlement is long overdue.

Russia has Ukraine exactly where it wants them and Kursk has helped to enable that. Kursk wasn't even tactically successful - they're were expected to make progress in the first few days as it was a surprise offensive that faced border guards but after just 5 days and the frontlines started forming it became very clear that there will be little more progress. Nothing of any value has been captured, no supply routes cut, no NPP nothing but little villages and the odd town and empty steppeland. And now the little pocket is being attacked from 3 sides, the Russian drones and arty are causing carnage. Russia will not negotiate their own territory. I wouldn't be surprised if kursk is still around for a few months, it suits Russia to keep them there but an encirclement would be more enticing for them I think.

MILITARY TUBE TODAY - Video shows Russian Northern Fleet drills in the Arctic Circle, kicking off new exercises on Tuesday, as joint naval exercises with China, as part of strategic command and staff exercises dubbed ‘Ocean-2024’ that began on Tuesday and run until September 16. The Russian Defense Ministry released footage showing the ships moving through the Arctic, having arrived in the eastern Arctic Ocean to protect the “military security” of Russian coastal facilities in the region. The drills will “study possible threat areas” in a region that most of the countries surrounding the Arctic are members of NATO, which is unfriendly and continues to deploy weapons in the region.
The drills-which include the Rear Admiral Kulakov destroyer and the Alexander Otrakovsky, a large landing ship-are part of a series of joint Russian-Chinese exercises. They involve more than 400 warships, submarines and support vessels across the Arctic and Pacific oceans, as well as in the Mediterranean, Caspian and Baltic seas. More than 90,000 personnel and 120 aircraft are participating. Troops with the Russian Pacific Fleet will practice defending sea communications near Russian eastern Primorsky region bordering China, the Defense Ministry added. Four Chinese warships and one supply ship are taking part.
The tasks that the Russian Northern Fleet will perform during the drills include ensuring the security of coastal infrastructure facilities in the Russian Arctic region, investigating potential areas of military operations and carrying out joint special operations aimed at eliminating terrorists during the military exercises, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement. NATO, despite taking a heavy hit in its proxy war in Ukraine, is busy reopening a number of facilities and military presence in the region, which poses an "acute threat" primarily to Russia.

And again, the question is why? How could the strikes on Moscow help Ukraine? Why did the Ukrainians stop the offensive, realizing that they could not strike at Moscow? Are Ukrainians offended? Because Ukrainians freely use Western weapons in the Kursk and Belgorod regions. And it doesn't help them.
🤦‍♂🤦‍♂That is, Ukraine will break through to the long-term fortifications built by Russia, further stretching the already overstretched logistics. The question is, why would Russia try to prevent this?
