This is week SIX of making and releasing 50+ songs in one year, and this week was crazy. A new song went from zero to done and I worked on a ton of the Full Length album as well.

Congrats on finishing your album! CANNOT wait to hear it!
Great job!!
It’s crazy how efficient you are.
I’m just beginning and I cannot even think as quick as you produce lol
Really looking forward to hearing this album. Really special project.
Awesome 👍. What are your computer specs?
Great video. Everything I have heard from your album so far sounds great. Look forward to it coming out
Crazy workethic right here!!
Almost 3 :D
Great video man!
What great energy this week! 🎉
The songs are amazing!!!
Hey Nathan, I’ve been really enjoying your weekly progress videos, I’m always amazed at the speed you work and I’m wondering if I end up overthinking some of my mix decisions.
Do you have a particular technique to allow you to work quickly and efficiently (apart from setting your phone to ‘do not disturb’)?
random question, how do you (and future me) as a producer find someone like saylor or nika to become one of your main singers? is it just networking and searching or what?
You gotta put yourself out and there and find people like you and reach out. I DM'd Nika out of the blue. She didnt know who I was... sent her links to my work and introduced myself as a normal human and fellow creative.
Saylor and I had mutual friends and got connected that way.
I do think that posting content is crucial - in a lot of ways people will look to that and determine who you are before really making a commitment to anything - if you build something then you are increasing your own "stock" of people wanting to work with you when you do reach out.
🙌🙌
Amazing video! I think the longer videos were a bit nicer!
Hi Nathan, great progress! I’m curious about your mixing process. Do you mix entirely in headphones? Do you use any room simulation plugin or anything like that?
Aye pretty cool!
Massive
Nice to ser your process and nice songs aswell 😊Dont you find it hard to to volume adjusments after the fader is locked up in automation?
Thanks!
Not really, no - cause it's as easy as just moving it again. I dont really think about it I suppose. Just part of the process.
What do you think about James Blake recent comments on quality > quantity? This goal of yours of setting a certain number of release in a year as a win is somehow weird. You are a great teacher and communicator
Not really familiar with James Blake... but 50 songs a year is really not that much. That's one per week which as a full time creative - that's not a crazy output. It's not "small" either... but I think setting goals is great. I'm also not sacrificing my quality at the alter of quantity either.
I also pretty strongly believe that most need quantity in order to even GET To quality.
Do you mix only in your headphones or do you use your monitors as well?
Just depends but with little kids - I do use headphones quite a lot and I am very familiar with how they sound. I do think you gotta get used to it and also have a good pair... have a cheaper pair of Audio TEchnicas I would NEVER mix on.
how does your neck not hurt from teh tv
So no video on Wednesday this week? Too many inconsistencies. Monday switched from Wednesday and now no video on Wednesday. Messes up the mind trying to follow it
Sorry you're feeling this way - this past week I've had non-music and life related things completely absorb it's entirety so it made absolutely no sense to make a video when there really was nothing that happened.
I'm having to figure out how to best go about this - and it's been a learning curve. Hope you can understand. I'll be explaining more in the next video, but I don't think a video every single week is realistic since some weeks I do very little "music" and am heavily focused on more of the content side, promotion, etc. and that's just the reality of being a full time creative - it's not ALL time in the studio making music. I've never been the type to spend 40hrs every week dedicated on music. Typically I work 2-3 weeks extremely hard on music (way more than 40hrs per week) and then crash for 1-2 weeks and take that time to get caught up on everything "non-music" related.
So I do have to admit that a weekly video was trying to fit a square into a circle for me.
It's not even an issue of making 50 songs... I'm well ahead of pace (have 16 finished) - it's more a matter that my brain usually needs a week or two of recovery after going extremely hard on music and I promise you that it would not be healthy for me to try to force it (been there before and it's not good)...
All this to say... on the one hand, I bit off more than I could chew. But not in the way that people might think cause it's really more about how I got hard for 2-3 weeks and then need a 1-2 week break from the "Creative" and focus on the "admin" and everything else I need to do.
I'm thinking about making each episode around each song instead of a "chronological" episode following every week so that way it COULD be a weekly video still.
This whole thing is definitely teaching me a lot about myself and realizing why I've tended to have this kind of "push hard for a few weeks" and then "rest for a 1-2" and that rest part is exceptionally important or else there's just no way I could do this for a living.
