siempre me fascinará la manera en la que el sonido flamenco emociona incluso a gente que no tiene ni idea de lo que está escuchando. Siendo un estilo de música tan diferente y complejo para el que no está familiarizado con él... me fascina

first of all this is chapter 2 on the story “chapter 2: wedding” after feeling the augury of what’s to come in Malamente, she decides to marry this guy and there’s parts where the guy is the one telling the story, he’s saying horrible things like “if anybody is against this wedding, be silence and don’t tell the bride (that’s why you can hear a “shhhh” at some point) he tells you how happy she looks but he’s already saying things like “you will be with me until you die even if you don’t want to” he’s already showing his possessive side which will be more developed on the next song, chapter 3: jealousy! it’s a whole story it’s amazing you can also hear how excited the girl is about her wedding, she’s choosing diamonds and all that stuff without having a clue about what’s to come… this album is literally Rosalia’s college thesis which makes it even more brilliant!!!
there’s also this video of a musician breaking down the whole album, It has English subtitles, I would recommend you to watch it when you’re done with the whole album or watch the two first songs break downs and then react to the next chapter and go watch his explanation! it’s extremely helpful and you will understand everything a 100% better :) here’s the link 👉🏻 ua-cam.com/video/NgHXFTgaVT0/v-deo.html

Rosalía´s videos are works of art, the videos of the Albúm EL MAL QUERER that you should see are : "Pienso en tu mirar. " " De aquí no sales" " Bagdag " " Di mi nombre". But every song of the Album is a work of art. You should listen to each of the songs. This Album won a GRAMMY and has a great prestige in the world of music.

there is a video of a very famous Spanish UA-camr called "Jaime Altozano". He analyzes musically El Mal Querer and I think you will like it and help you understand a little more. Has English subtitles. So sorry for my English :(

React to “Pienso en tu Mirá”, is the next song of the album, there is an official video, it’s amazing you’ll blown away with the creativity and symbolism. The song for many is her best song by far.Thank you

Rosalia le da una dulzura al flamenco que permite que mucha gente pueda apreciarlo. Sería como el chocolate y el cacao.

It is amazing that you are going in order… Her lyrics are even hard to understand for Spanish speakers and I believe She and The Guincho (her producer) are the only with a full understanding of them.
We have concepts and ideas but this is deep.

Some great replies here, specially Daphne’s. Quite self explanatory this one. To me the main theme here is coercion and subterfuge from the broom, plying his soon to be bride with material goods. I find it incredibly interesting that you picked up on the fact there were many voices in the background. Now I could be wrong but this could represent a criticism of the wider social circle and how they are somewhat complicit in the toxic relationship. No one challenges the groom when he warns folk not to oppose the marriage or have a word with the bride. How often in real life situations are people impassive when witnessing abusive relationships dismissing it as a “private matter” and “not to interfere”.

Yes, I totally agree! I feel they're probably afraid to speak as well. If he has so much money that he can shower his fiance with such expensive gifts, he must be very wealthy and therefore powerful too. The bride to be sounds as if she's from a poorer background, easily swayed by shiny objects. Her family/friends powerless to warn her.

@@albamartinez4987 As always your dissection of the song was bang on the money, no pun intended! Yes the groom is using his wealth to exert control and “buy” his bride and she is blinded to this danger by being dazzled with shiny things. The social circle are rendered powerless. I’ve looked up the lyrics yes pretty much the whole song is about subterfuge and coercion using material wealth to possess the bride and serve some dark inner need or insecurity. What a dark yet strikingly beautiful song.

Hi @Hotmessreacts! Firstly, I just want to say I'm incredibly flattered you read my comment from Malamente out loud! Thank you, you are so sweet and I'm really happy it helped! ❤❤🥰
Secondly, I love how you always genuinely make such an effort to understand the song, it's a rarity among UA-cam reactors and to your credit you've done fantastically well considering you don't know the language or have the cultural background to rely on! You basically have it down.
Dafne Ramirez and 16_30FsEk have both given great explanations of what's going on in this one. I particularly like 16_30FsEk's interpretation of the reason for not challenging the groom.
To me this is a song of contrasts. Firstly, with the singing, you have the joyfullness of a wedding. You can hear it in the voices of the other singers ('guests'). Everyone is happy as would be normal at a wedding. But aside from this you have the constant background strumming of the guitar (which Jaime Altozano explains perfectly in the link Dafne gave you) is like a funeral march. This gives you a sense of foreboding, not in fact joyous at all. At the beginning you'll notice this strumming feels far, as if you're away from the room where the festivities are taking place and the groom is talking. I imagine he's in a bathroom, looking at himself in the mirror telling himself that he was so lucky to have met his bride. That when she saw the ring, her eyes shone like daggers...so hungry for the riches he offers her. Desperate for his 'fish to not wriggle from his hook' he menacingly threatens those who would dare object to their marriage. Don't let her hear anyone speak ill of him, don't let the light of the moon shine on the dark truth, what he really is, there's no point in telling her.
After the part where she's choosing her ring, you hear them sing she's a queen, crowned with gold and pearl's. Nothing's too good for her, he's put her on a pedestal, untouchable but also letting everyone know she's his. By accepting his gifts, it confirms to him she owes him her dedication/loyalty. Her life is his. He's 'bought' her. The key phrase of what's to come is 'like it or not, she will be with me until SHE dies'. He's confident of the power he has over her
The contrast is how Rosalía shows you the bride's p.o.v too. She's happy to be getting married not only to a man that adores her but showers her with expensive gifts. Sje's the luckiest girl in the room, envied by all her friends (or so she thinks). She marries him blindly, ignoring her instincts. It ends abruptly though, with a distant echo. Like slamming the door in a dungeon.
This is how I see it at least, not sure if it's right and I'm sure there's more there too. But that's the just as I see it. It's incredible to think how Rosalía has managed to put so much in a sing without a video right?!
Looking forward to your view on Chapter 3, Celos (jealousy)/ Pienso en tu Mirá. The video is fab!!

Yes the whole album is a history, in this song is the male or groom 🤵‍♂️ point of view talking about the bride 👰‍♀️ the people said if you have something to said don’t said it, they know the guy looks good but his not. Yes in the image it’s kind like Frida Kalo the 2 Fidas but the hands are cuffed because the groom with all his jealousy imprisoned her… Now please please react to Pienso en tu Mira… this is so interesting….

"Frida" from 2002 is one of my favourite films, it's a pretty artwork with Molina and Hayek. Even if the film is about two characters that are described more positively, the story itself contains the bad momentum, i can see the intersections with "El Mal querer". 💙

The cover for this song is inspired by "The Two Fridas", which is a work from Frida Kahlo. In the original painting, it shows a self portrait of the two Fridas sitting in chairs. One is in a traditional European style dress, as her fathers side was German. The other side is dressed in a Huipil which is from traditional tribes from the center/south of Mexico, where her mom is from. Both their hearts are visible and are connected by veins, showing that this is one person with two sides. The European one has half of her heart missing, while the Mexican one is full. Also in the Mexican side, she is holding a portrait of her ex-husband which symbolizes content with what was, and moving forwards.
The story in Rosalias Album is about a women entering an abusive and toxic marriage. You were mostly right with the handcuffs in saying how the were agreeing to be together but the woman was soon to find out the truth about her husband.

You pulled the visualizer, there isn't an official video from her. Maybe you want to avoid the visualizer's in future as there is always a live video that should be much more interesting to review and missing her detailed facial expressions let u loose much context/deepness and with that much of the basis you could interpret from... Therefore the recommendation for the Live version, which is an impressive showcase of her stage presence. Maybe you want to watch it anyway for yourself: ua-cam.com/video/XFjNMQNTtww/v-deo.html
You got the song in high quality, so that's the most important! These combination of flamenco and arabic vibes combined with modern sound design... EPIC💙
In my very own interpretation you can see her critique of this classic concept of man providing to "own" the woman they marry. At least that's what the man's are expecting. Not sure if humanity evolved here to the full extent. Let's see what interpretation we get from spanish insider's...
Thank you for taking time, enjoyed it! Hope you have great HolyDays! 🍸🍸🎀🎀
PS: I just want to hint you to her upcoming new album Motomami (should be released in the next week's), should be a very different style... yet same talent. I don't know if you want to jump on the band wagon... (you can multiply your views if you review a song in the first days after release) yet i always would recommend to wait for official video's or live version's.
