How to Appy Game Hack Patch IPS Files

Most rom hacks come in the form of IPS patches. In order to get the hacked version of a game from this patch you'll need:
The hack patch
The original (unmodified) game file
Lunar IPS, download for Windows: www.romhacking.net/utilities/...
Then open Lunar IPS and select “Apply IPS Patch”.
Use file explorer to select your patch and click “Open”.
Then on the next screen select the original unmodified game file to patch onto and click “Open” again.
Your game file should now be patched to the hacked version.

Actually, there's Floating IPS, which is a newer program that is recommended now for applying .IPS patches. Unlike Lunar IPS, instead of overwriting the original ROM, it creates a new patched ROM file.

It also has more safety features to protect you from patching the wrong ROM, which may or may not be desirable (for BPS patches specifically)

I did this exact thing using roms and snes9x, for some reason it doesnt work. Even when i change the name of the rom to be the same as the name of the patch file, which i remember used to work

Yeah, this system is terrible. No CRC check of either file. It lets you patch random files and leaves you wondering what could go wrong. ROMs tend to have multiple versions, you know. Software engineering at its worst.
