I kid you not, yesterday at the gym, this chick had a They Live shirt. It was badass. Made me want to watch it again. Then this morning, what do I see? A Joblo video on it. It's either a sign to watch the movie, or a sign that I should have asked that girl to marry me.🤔

As A Kid Born In '87 I Can Relate To This Conversation When It Comes To Pro Wrestlers From The '70's, '80's, '90's,'00's And 2010's Who've Gone From The Squared Circle To The Big Screen. I'm guessing you may already know this, but I will leave it for those who don't.
      Roths//Child 25 Point Plan (1773)
      1. Use violence and terrorism rather than academic discussions.
      2. Preach “Liberalism” to usurp political power.
      3. Initiate class warfare.
      4. Politicians must be cunning and deceptive - any moral code leaves a politician vulnerable.
      5. *Dismantle “existing forces of order and regulation.” Reconstruct all existing institutions.”*
      --Communism and Religion
Abolished - all religious and metaphysics is rejected. Engels and Lenin agreed that religion was a drug or “spiritual booze” and must be combated. *To them, atheism put into practice meant a “forcible overthrow of all existing social conditions.”*
      6. Remain invisible until the very moment when it has gained such strength that no cunning or force can undermine it.
      7. *Use Mob Psychology to control the masses.* “Without absolute despotism one cannot rule efficiently.”
      8. Advocate the use of alcoholic liquors, drugs, moral corruption and all forms of vice, used systematically by “agenteurs” to corrupt the youth.
      9. Seize properties by any means to secure submission and sovereignty.
      10. Foment wars and control the peace conferences so that neither of the combatants gains territory placing them further in debt and therefore into our power.
      11. *Choose candidates for public office who will be “servile and obedient to our commands, so they may be readily used as pawns in our game.”*
      12. *Use the Press for propaganda to control all outlets of public information, while remaining in the shadows, clear of blame.*
      13. Make the masses believe they had been the prey of criminals. Then restore order to appear as the saviors.
---When the goal is worldwide Communism, who do you suppose they will make the masses believe were the criminals preying upon them?
      14. Create financial panics. Use hunger to control to subjugate the masses.
      15. Infiltrate Freemasonry to take advantage of the Grand Orient Lodges to cloak the true nature of their work in philanthropy. *Spread their atheistic-materialistic ideology amongst the "Goyim" (gentiles).*
      16. When the hour strikes for our sovereign lord of the entire World to be crowned, their influence will banish everything that might stand in his way.
      17. *Use systematic deception, high-sounding phrases and popular slogans.* “The opposite of what has been promised can always be done afterwards... That is of no consequence.”
      18. A Reign of Terror is the most economical way to bring about speedy subjection.
      19. *Masquerade as political, financial and economic advisers to carry out our mandates with Diplomacy and without fear of exposing “the secret power behind national and international affairs.”*
      20. Ultimate world government is the goal. *It will be necessary to establish huge monopolies, so even the largest fortunes of the Goyim will depend on us to such an extent that they will go to the bottom together with the credit of their governments on the day after the great political smash.”*
---Remember point 13? Hints as to who they will make people believe are the criminals preying on the masses is: It's the nation created three years after this was all written. The world's most powerful Capitalist nation, with its currency being the most widely used around the world, as well as being among the top currencies held in reserves by many nations. It is the world's number one importer of goods, beating out China by around $500 Billion in imports each year. In an effort to fight against Liberalism/Marxist ideologies, it will soon turn to religious laws as a means to Make that Country Great Again, forcefully remove Liberals from positions of power, authority and influence as it becomes the Fascist nation Liberals claimed it would be if a certain orange colored man were to return to his former position in the government. As a result, capitalism and Judeo-Christianity will be seen as the biggest roadblocks to "progress".
If you have studied the Bible, you would know this as being the fall of "Mystery, Babylon the Great", the empire of the Roman Catholic Church in the last days.
      21. Use economic warfare. Rob the "Goyim" of their landed properties and industries with a combination of high taxes and unfair competition.
      22. “Make the 'Goyim' destroy each other so there will only be the proletariat left in the world, with a few millionaires devoted to our cause, and sufficient police and soldiers to protect our interest.”
      23. Call it The New Order. Appoint a Dictator.
      24. *Fool, bemuse and corrupt the younger members of society by teaching them theories and principles we know to be false.*
---That would include things such as: Big Bang Theory, Darwin's Theory of Evolution, Climate Change/Global Warming and gender being different than sex. (Just to name a few.)
The main goal is to make people question and deny the existence of God. Without Creation, there is no God who designed the universe, people and animals, it's all just random chance. If there is no God, there are no moral absolutes, "your truth" and subjective morality is all that matters. Do as thou wilt shall be the whole of the law.
25 Twist national and international laws into a contradiction which first masks the law and afterwards hides it altogether. Substitute arbitration for law."
      Psalm 2
1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying,
3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
---That is, they want to cast off the moral requirements established by God the Father and God the Son, the Anointed One (Messiah).
4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
7 I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

I saw this one in the theaters when I was 12. Didn't even have to sneak in or anything, they just let me buy a ticket on my own (One of the reasons I'll always remember "They Live"). I was completely oblivious to a good portion of the social commentary at the time (It took me a few more years to start following anything close to politics), but man, did this one make my eyes go big! I was down with everything about it (the different kind of alien invasion, the look of the movie, "The" fight scene). Plus, I'll always have a soft spot for Meg Foster, who will forever be my favorite version of Katrina Van Tassel in the Jeff Goldblum starring "Legend of Sleepy Hollow" from 1980 (she's also Evil Lyn from the Masters of the Universe movie). Anyhow, "They Live" continues to be in my top five of Carpenter's work (don't see it ever dropping) and a sight to see if you haven't yet had the pleasure. Once again, another stellar entry in this series! Keep 'em coming! Cheers!

Carpenter was also the first director on Halloween 4, but left due to creative differences with Moustapha Akkad. Surprised you didn't know/mention that.
Halloween 4 being a big hit and They Live flopping must have stung quite a bit for Carpenter.

One thing I didn't understand was how the aliens were able to do commercial transactions and simple banking when they can't see what money is. Maybe they agreed that "this is your god" is a 10, maybe "obey" is a 20, etc.

One of my all time fave films
And the CONCEPT is clever because it can be used as a blank THEM kinda thing.
Like. If you’re are into a specific conspiracy theory. This film offers a blank template to show an uprising against a “THEM” or “THEY” of your choice
Loved WWF as a kid too but this was so separate from WWF in my mind
PIPER was just brilliant in this film. Glad he didnt just go with Kurt Russel AGAIN because that would have been just TOO much Russel/Carpenter in the bank
(Almost as bad as Burton/Depp became)
As much as I LOVE this film. It IS a film that suffers from a two half problem.
I think the second half just LOSES steam.
The fight is round about the middle and is like a MARKER for this.
Once Piper and David join the “resistance” it just…loses something
I never like UPRISING movies. It just has a very lame feel to it in my opinion. Very righteous. I dunno but this film deffo suffers in terms of keeping you AS interested in the second half as it did in the first in MY opinion
Similar to the comedy Stir Crazy with Gene Wilder & Richard Pryor
That film is RIDICULOUSLY funny until the midway point and then it just virtually DIES A DEATH throughout the second half! I mean I dont even think there is any DIALOGUE in my memory?
Yea so. John Carpenter for me. His best movies in order from best down in my opinion
    Assault On Precinct 13
    The Thing
    They Live
I do LIKE the Escape films and Big Trouble. But they are just pick em films. Take or leave em in my opinion

  • @latedecember2805

In my opinion this movie had the best movie quote. I have never forgotten it. You know the movie from this one tag line quote " I came here to chew bubble gum and kick ass and I'm all out of bubble gum. "
Just so you know, I love cheese. I love cheesy movies. Appreciate the cheese please. If you look at many many great movies that have a whole lot of cheese in them. Movies might have flopped but some movies were just ahead or behind their times. Thankfully we can rewatch movies we love in secret and love them even though they were flops. I'm looking at you Rocky Horror Picture Show. Yeah you were a Saturday night cult classic I went to at the midnight showing at our local theater. It was fun and if you never went to Midnight madness showing of RHPS you missed out.

Fun fact, if you replace the grotesque faces with tiny little hats, you have the world we currently live in.

It's deep. The world was always about control, from pagan civilisations to religion to the technocracy of now. We don't even know who or what created us or if there's a why. Maybe alien gods, like in Lovecraft, that demanded sacrifices. Maybe waiting for our technology to reach a certain level. Funny how the entire world has this collective consciousness no matter where you are. I remember reading in an article (Starburst, maybe?) with Carpenter saying that his awareness became so acute that he couldn't even watch MTV anymore.

I enjoyed the movie, and the concept was definitely unique. However, all the complaining about Reaganomics is stupid. The producer talks about the seventies being so great but she must've forgotten about the 19% interest rate if you tried to buy a home or the gas shortages under Jimmy Carter. Reagan brought America back to prosperity, help restore American patriotism, laid the groundwork for the end of the Cold War etc. If anything, They Live is closer to today's world with constant surveillance, big tech and government working together to control the flow of information, using the government to silence and jail the opposition etc.

I just want to say as a wrestling fan rowdy Roddy Piper is not that big of a guy when it stands next to other wrestles but you put him in Hollywood next to a bunch of normal people and the dude is an absolute unit

It's probably more relevant but consumerism isn't necessarily bad.
I mean, do try to remember what the entire world looked like before grocery stores and big box retail.

I don't know if they're able to but if they could they should do a remake of tha movie just to see how it all would be today in age, I got a good idea who would play tha role of tha characters of tha same role of tha movie John Cena n Samuel L. Jackson would be two to play in it I don't know it's just an opinion

I stop watching a lot of channels because they get political. I've said this before for JoeBlo: so far, every time politics comes up, y'all stay fair and neutral, and it's much appreciated. Y'all talk about the movies and don't preach politics in this political time. Thanks guys. "Fake news from both sides". That was a good statement. Y'all don't ostracize either side.

Carpenter has to be dishonest about who the movie is about, otherwise he would be banned from small hat controlled Hollywood

When you hire a top notch wrestler it’s stupid to not take full advantage of his wrestling talent. (And yes wrestling is just overdone and very elaborate stage fighting.) so Craven knowing what he had was smart and rolled with it!

Crazy to think about it now, that They Live is a masterpiece while Halloween 4 is complete trash compared. Interesting, how Carpenter movies always become popular titles after they first played the theaters.
