Hello the grain is added using 50% gray on overlay then grain. It's a very old technique people use. Since at 50% grey on overlay the value will not change at all and so does color since it is grey on overlay. Only the grain will show up after filter since the grain have different value than 50% grey

OK in case you wonder why do this. The reason is that you can lower or increase the strength of the noise using "just" the opac slider without affect anything and only the noise

I love how you aren't saying you're "fixing the art" or making it better. I find it cool how you only follow along for a study and not calling it completely original art that you did. This is really informative and helped me a lot with my art! :D

5:51 the layer she was using is the color balance layer in CSP; it basically allows you to control the colors in shadows, half-tones, and highlight. it's very useful if you feel your image is ruled by one strong color(think: an image filter), playing around with it can drastically change the...well, balance of colors in the image!

A tip I can suggest toward people is to start with thin lineart and then thicken the lines as you go. Even when doing copy drawings, if you try to immediately replicate the same thick lines as the original, you may accidentally go overboard and be forced to erase. However, this can ruin some parts. So by starting with thin lines and thickening them as you progress, you can view what the thick lines do to the whole image rather than just that isolated part for that moment.

    this is me,
I love playing racing games and occasionaly make a livery for one of the cars. neither am I good at drawing, nor do I know anything more than the most basic stuff in photoshop.
yet here I am. Watching almost all videos of you explain how artists use different features of photoshop in a category I will propably never touch. going frame by frame to see what you did only to perfect a single line, on a virtual car, that will be seen by only a handful of people.
I will propably try to draw along one of these videos at some point, once I feel more comfortable with everything.
Thank you for doing these videos! I feel like I get better by the second

Yoneyama Mai's art is so good. I really try so hard to draw like her but I always failed. Mostly because I don't know what to do after one step to another..
When I draw, it's usually sketch > lineart > color > shade > lightning. And that is just never make my art looks good, in fact my art looks so terrible the more I look at it. I never actually satisfied with my own art, but I don't know where to fix it. It's always "just add this and it should be good" but turned out it looks bad lol

I noticed that there really 2 processes that popular artists use. The line, base then render ,ethos or the painterly one layer painting method. Both are valid and all other process styles essentially a blend of the two. I lean on the line art side but starting to get used to painterly because you get to do Matt painting and photo bashing and making the materials a part of your blocking process. Very interesting stuff. Great video as usual

What I feel this series fails to mention, is how regardless of the knowledge of any of these tools and strategies you have, it still comes down to the personal view and creativity of the artist, none of the things done here are revolutionary, they are as bare ones as they come, but it's how she used them
