- In this video I show how to fit an electrical dry lining box into plasterboard/drywall. I explain how to cut the plasterboard using a choice of four different tools, and show how to physically fit the dry lining box into the plasterboard wall.

I find the best is stanley knife first as you have done to score the paper lining of the plasterboard and then bring the speed down on the Makita multi tools to say 2 or 3 (i have the same multi tool) so you can get nice crisp lines without losing control and piercing through the wall at the end.
You do a great job on your channel. I have particularly enjoyed watching your roofing stuff for entertainment in the last few months.

whenever I fit a drywall box I usually just use a regular metal 2 gang backbox as a template, the drywall box will then just fit nicely in

What battery do I need for the makita multi tool.?? Seen you used it there, I got the body only from screwfix and only realising it takes a much smaller battery that the norm. Also great video as usual. I've learnt a lot from just watching your videos.
I'll be mounting my plasterboard onto 50mm insulation board. What would you suggest here? I could cut the hole in the insulation before installing but would then need the hole in the plasterboard to align perfectly
Love your content helps with my garden room, I'll be battening 2 walls where where all the sockets are going with 2x1, with the 1in batten and the thickness of the plasterboard will I be OK to use these back boxes?
Should be. These are 25mm so 12mm plasterboard plus 1inch (26mm) should give you plenty of clearance. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
If you have a multi tool you can buy a box shape attachment that cuts it all at once

Great video thanks. Just a quick question if the drywall is double 12mm plasterboard in some places so around 27mm thick including the skim. The side flaps cant get behind the plasterboard is there something else you could do or use??

I would just carefully cut the inner layer of plasterboard out with a multicutter or knife just larger than the size of the clips. Should work then. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

Most accurate is knife or multitool. But using a knife to score the bored with careful cutting using a plasterboard saw is fine if you're on a budget. Hope that helps.

No - Standard plasterboard
Hi I have a question, how would you remove one of these to replace it? How would you info the yellow clips?
Get a small flat head screw driver if it's tight, wedge it in and gently lever inwards. If your replacing it then it doesn't matter if you snap the clips although it may come out without breaking. Hope that helps.

I have hollow walls, and all my sockets stick out. Would I follow this video, to sink the sockets into the walls?
You can yes, but you will need to remove the patress box (bit that sticks out) and use a dry lining box as per the video. Then attach your sockets to the dry lining box. If in doubt call a qualified electrician and stay safe. Hope that helps.

How to remove a box that's already installed with the lugs on the yellow clips already snapped into place?
Awesome. Is there a best tool to use if the wall is already painted to stop the paint chipping? Planning to fit some on an already painted wall.
If you're careful they're all ok. The dry lining box has a lip and socket over hangs that so you have a couple of mm to play with if you have a bit of chipped paint. Hope that helps.
Can these be removed without breaking the yellow plastic spurs?
They can with some gentle persuasion but I have to admit, I've broken some in the past. Hope you managed it!
OK......managed by using a small thin blade kitchen knife and a bit of a waggle. Earned me a beer.
The regulation says 450mm centre not 450mm to the bottom of the socket.

Yes I'll be showing rest of loft conversion, they just take longer to edit and I like to keep a mix of stuff on my channel as a lot of viewers like the basic DIY stuff. I'm still doing the day job, have a family, and a loft to finish so limited time these days. Hopefully loft insulation vid soon!
