Roger, congratulations, that is a stunning compilation, thank you for your dedication to producing it, and telling just a little bit more of the Emma story. There is so much there that's a clear indication of just how incredible Emma is, in so many ways, she truly is a warrior, and the absolute determination that shines through everything she does is a wonderful testament to how she has refused to let gastroparesis define her life, despite 22 hours a day on the pumps, a bag or shoulder pack that is the size and weight of a small boat anchor, she rises above it all, and delivers such powerful performances. Even better, it puts an end to the lie that she is a one song performer, which is so clear from this video, and from the other songs also on youtube that she performed at other events around that time, they make it so clear that she's become world class, and is capable of standing on any stage, and commanding it with her presence, we're seeing it with things like her performance of Dancing on the Stars from Maastricht, her preview of the Disney concert that's happening in January, and now, her first ever concert in the prestigious venue of the Royal Concertgebouw, (concert building, constructed in 1888) in Amsterdam, in her name, sold out in under 3 hours, an indication of just how many people are following her rise, and I know from other contacts, there are people travelling literally thousands of miles to attend that event, and I just hope that there will be a professional DVD made of the event. This video obviously mentions her trademark song, Voila, which was the start of her metoric rise to fame, but what's so good about this compilation is that it only mentions Andre Rieu, rather than focussing on her performances with him, while all the songs she's sung with Andre are spectacular, this video shows so clearly that she is more than capable of performing with other singers and orchestras, and does so very competently. This video is just a tiny snapshot of how Emma's rise to fame has happened, and the best thing about it is that through it all, she's retained that open and lovely personality that defines her, right from the early days, it was clear that she's so competent, so at home on any stage, and it doesn't matter how big or small the event, she rises to the occasion, and nothing seems to trouble her, a consummate professional, yet at the same time, a very relaxed and open individual who is totally able to express her views when interviewed, even when talking about complex issues like the wars in the Middle East and Europe. Even when she's in front of huge audiences, her ability to shine is so visible, the words she spoke before singing Dancing on the Stars, they were so genuine, so clear, and so powerful, she had that audience in the palm of her hand before she sang a note, and then she absolutely destroyed them emotionally with the vocal explosions she delivered through that song, finishing with incredible top notes that seemed to last for ever. Even better, a few months later, at the start of October, she sang for a concert near Maastricht, a small town, Geleen, for a full house audience of only 600, a wonderful event, Emma sang 4 songs, and we also were treated to nearly 4 hours of first class music from a very talented group of people, as they celebrated 150 years of making special music, and all of it was superb, in so many ways, and because it was so much smaller, it was somehow more intimate, and more relaxed, and not as pressured or fast, even the tempo of the songs was slower, which in a strange way made it very different, there's a couple of videos on UA-cam, Roger has put one up, and I have as well, a search for Emma Kok Geleen will find them. It's hard to recognise that Emma is still only 16, yet she's already been seen live by close on 1 million people, and her songs have been played on UA-cam or streaming sites like Spotify by close to 150 Million times, the videos on UA-cam alone are now over on 100 Million, and that's not counting the huge number of reaction videos that have also been put up, and the best is yet to come, and the only thing that can hold her back is the ongoing issues of gastroparesis. Emma's foundation, started with the money she won in Ministars in 2023, was set up to research her illness, and it's one of very few groups working to hopefully find a cure for her, and they have a website, it can be found at Gastrostars.nl I will leave a closing plea to everyone reading these comments, if you want to see and hear more from Emma, please consider making a (regular) donation to her foundation, as freeing her from the awful regime of being tied to feeding pumps for 22 hours a day would make a huge difference to her life, and give her a way to perform more, and to be able to live the full life that she is so much denied, it's hard to recognise that she can never, has never, shared in a normal meal with family, simply because her stomach can't process food properly, the only thing she can do it have small pieces of rice cake, with slivers of other food, to get the taste, but the whole emotional experience of sharing together in a special time is denied her, and has been since she was a baby, she was put on tube feeding at 9 Months. Despite all of these issues, and regular pain that she has to cope with when her stoma tubes are changed every 5 months, and for which she refuses anaesthetic to protect her voice, Emma doesn't talk often about these issues, she's always incredibly positive and bright when being interviewed, an absolute shining example of a wonderful young woman who has shown how it's possible to rise above adversity so strongly.
Nicely said Steve, on all points, particularly support for Emma’s foundation. One thing we have both noticed is Emma’s smile of self satisfaction when she finishes a song, even as a 12 year old. This video shows her maturity as a youngster at Madurodam. Unlike the 5th May where freedom is celebrated, the 4th is a more solemn day of remembrance. I notice as Emma finishes at the Children’s Memorial, she simply lowers the microphone and bows her head slightly, expressionless, doesn’t acknowledge the applause. It’s that wise old soul in her. Absolute respect.
I found it quite emotional manually translating the lyrics to Als Wij Niets Doen. And especially the way Emma carried the performance at Madurodam. Its such a shame though that on 5th May on the Amstel Emma and Dirk van den Brand weren't able to sing the whole song.
Thank you. I am a bit amateur with my editing but I try very hard to get the best translation I can. I started doing these for my own benefit because I wanted to know more of the details and accurately. If just one person says something nice then it makes it feel worthwhile. The video image quality on the interview with April Darby isn't great but I took the view that it doesn't exist anywhere else on YT so its either this or nothing. I have managed to get quite good sound quality though. I have a new video out very late today or some time tomorrow (I've struggled getting it through copyright and unfortunately it will still be blocked in The Netherlands). It is footage I have watched before for the music but didn't really know what was being said in between. I have to admit that as I was writing the translation I had tears in my eyes. It was like watching it again for the first time.
Great watching this video Of Emma & all the other musicians. What is shown is dedication & hard work to produce such a concert. Emma has come far & will still go many places. An exceptional young woman despite her setback that doesn't stop her performing.
Roger - thank you for another great video of Emma. You keep outdoing yourself with every video. I had a comment in here last night that must have not gone through or was deleted?? Anyways, what lovely insight into our cherished Emma, she is so smart and handles herself so well for her age! Keep the videos coming, can't get enough of her ❤
Thanks for the kind words. I think many will have seen the footage in my videos before, my hope is that the (slightly) more accurate translations and perhaps some of the information will give them a bit of a new life. I have a new one in prep but it has a copyright glitch. With a few tweaks I can get it out but maybe a day or two delay.
Yes Roger, I have seen most of the footage, but what you are doing bringing it all life for non Dutch speaking individuals such as myself...thank you so much, you're to be commended!!👍👍
@@ronaldveillette9549 thanks again for being so nice. I would be doing the translations for myself anyway. I love getting Emma’s story first hand. It would therefore be a shame not to share them. 👍

I think they are living the dream, mum and dad included. 😃And yes on pride - I have posted before in a few places what Vico, Emma's dad, said when asked about their pride in Emma. He said this: "Can I describe how proud we are of Emma Kok when she gets to stand there on stage next to the great André Rieu and his Johan Strauss orchestra! Let me try to describe it: Your nerves twist through your body, tears spontaneously spring from your eyes, the smile on your face doesn't stop, you see your heart pounding through your clothes, you lose 2 litres of moisture, grey hairs suddenly turn black again and some even fall out, you're floating above 12000 people and you're just out of this world in that time, you sit next to your own body for a moment and you see your little girl standing there and thinking, how is this possible... She's just going to do this now for a while... Well, yeah, that's how it feels... Voila!"
