Emma Kok, age 13, 'Times are Changing' at the Flow of Change congress 4th Nov 2021
Emma Kok sang at the Flow of Change Congress in November 2021 to close the event. After singing 'Times Are Changing', Emma was interviewed on-stage by Humberto Tan. There was a lighthearted exchange talking about Emma's career aspirations and her dreams of singing at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, Did either of them think her dreams would start to become true within weeks and to become fully realised three years later?

Emma Kok, age 14, head to head with Sting singing Fragile

I've always been a fan of Sting, right back from the early days with The Police he's one of the threads in the soundtrack of my life. Emma Kok is the most recent, and, for me, the most significant addition to that soundtrack. Emma is the best I've ever heard; at least the best 12, then 13, 14, 15 and 16 year old I've ever heard. Hence the idea for this comparison. I like Sting's 'Fragile', its ...
Emma Kok, age 16, giving the German version of the introduction to 'Dancing On The Stars'

This video will form part of the German DVD release of Andre Rieu's summer concerts. I do know that Andre stands on stage with just the orchestra (or maybe just the parts of the orchestra visible on camera), but with an otherwise empty Vrijthof Square on a non-concert evening to record all the verbal parts of the concert in all the different languages required. Maybe Emma did the same here? Tha...

I had been very keen to see Emma Kok sing in a more intimate concert setting with a small audience compared to the huge arena concerts she has become used to; this concert was the perfect opportunity. Travelling from the UK not knowing exactly what to expect, it turned out to be brilliant decision. Notwithstanding Emma singing there, there were some seriously elite, musicians on show: Miro Petk...
Emma Kok, age 16, full performance at 'Fred & Friends' 2024, Incl. Imagine and Dancing On The Stars

On 11th and 12th October 2024 Emma Kok performed for the second consecutive year at 'Fred and Friends' at the Ahoy Arena, Rotterdam. To date there is no video showing Emma's entire performance nor complete version of any one song. This video is a collage of clips, edited to provide that complete picture of Emma's superb set. If you are looking for a video / audio masterpiece, this isn't it, it ...
Thanks for putting this together, Roger. Emma’s story is sad but inspiring. The world will soon be clamoring to hear more about this little Warrior!
Just to have the courage to speak freely in front of a 10.000+ audience amazes me. Let allone doing that in a language which is not your first language. I know: here in the Netherlands most people are speaking some English and German. But again, to give a speech in a foreign language, no matter if you are a teenager or an adult, in front of a huge audience: respect for that!! And nobody has forced Emma to do this. It is something she wishes to do and André Rieu agreed with it.
Exactly right, many would go weak just walking out there and facing a crowd of that size. I thought Emma at Fred and Friends was spectacular just the way she walked out to that small island stage, in total control and living every moment. Emma is uniquely special and I think she is beginning to understand that more fully. 👍
Emma can sing it all. Imagine going to your local pub or legion hall on karaoke night, and this young lady - who is not old enough to even be in there - steps up and begins singing like she does. The entire floor would be littered with dropped jaws.)
Superstars. I'd know them anyplace.
Mon ♥ princes ♥ EMMA
Emma has big dreams - but her talent is even bigger. You Go Girl. You've already captured this old guy on the west coast of America.
Isn't she just magical. Did you see that she has organised her own concert at the extremely prestigious Royal Concert Hall in Amsterdam next October, and it fully sold out in under 3 hours. You don't get to perform there unless you are someone special.
What a lovely video. And the most recent (last Friday, 25-10-2024) fact about Emma: thanks to André Rieu she will have her own show in the Royal Theater (900 seats) in Amsterdam on 21-10-2025. Only 3 hours(!) after Emma annouced this proudly and very happy on national tv it was SOLD OUT. So again 'full house' for her. So she is living proof: when you have dreams and you persue them, working hard and meet the right persons, it really can work out. But again heartbreaking: hearing a 13 year old (this is recorded 3 years ago) sing without any hesitation 'I'll be waiting till the day I die....' is so, so sad. But look at Emma now: 16 years old, trying successfully to persue her dream under the wings of André Rieu and his orchestra despite her tricky condition. As he said last year: she is an example for all of us... And Emma is not only a gifted singer, she is a great musician as well: the arrangement of "Dancing On The Stars" is made by André AND Emma and when I hear other songs she sings I think she is already actively involved in other arrangements as well.
Not 900 seats - next October Emma will be in the main hall of the Concertgebouw which has 1975 seats, and yes all sold out in under 3 hours. Amazing.
@@RogerC-2024 Even better!! I did look on the website from the Royal Theatre (Koninklijke Schouwburg) in Amsterdam to discover how many seats there are. The Concertgebouw is a different theatre.
@@JaapFilius Yes, Emma is in the big house. 😃 Its not just that its bigger the Concertgebouw is a super prestigious and selective venue. If you perform there, you are someone special. Emma deserves it. 👍
Roger C, I forgot the most important thing to say and that is : Thank you that you made this, it's perfect. I have the same feelings like you about Sting and Emma, exactly the same. And it gives me a feeling of peace all over me, when I feel sad or restless I listen to this song of Sting and Emma and the world opens for me with peace and all the beautiful things in life to live for and to fight for to keep it so beautiful as it is. Take care for yourselves and your loveones and also let's try to make the world a little better again and save the world and pray for peace. Thank you Roger C, I hope many people see your video❤❤❤
Thank you for your kind words. I made the Geleen and Fred and Friends videos firstly for my own benefit, but I decided, given I had made them, I could add some extra bits of information about Emma or the performance that some viewers may not know and maybe someone else might enjoy them. If just one person watches and enjoys them then that is good enough for me. I am not looking to build any kind of channel. But I do think Emma deserves to be heard and her story accurately presented for by as many people as possible. The first video was prompted by my trip from the UK to Geleen in The Netherlands earlier this month where I had a front row seat to see Emma. I made a video simply because I wanted a record of my experience. I know the audio wasn't so great on my phone but that was all I had. I was surprised it came out so well because I held my phone in my lap, I didn't want to watch Emma through my phone - I went there to see her live. Similarly the Fred and Friends video is quite poor in that it is comprised of nearly 60 video, audio, photo clips that I edited together as best I could (it took a long time) but it was the only way I could get to see Emma's whole performance end-to-end. I figured that if I liked it then maybe someone else would like it too so I decided to post it. I thought it would get a lot of negative comments because of my editing but fortunately it hasn't. These other videos will have been seen by many already, but they allow me to tell a little of Emma's story as far as I know it, and which some viewers may not know. So when one person such as you makes a nice comment about one of the videos its really great - not for my pride, it is that the commenter probably sees Emma's talent in the same way I do, and that makes me so very happy. Thank you ❤
@@RogerC-2024 Thank you for sharing your video's you made, great job👍so we also can enjoy more performances of her, I really liked them and you have a great talent for it. Almost every day I am looking for new performances of her so you made me and many others happy, very kind of you. Please go on this way, I'm looking forward to see more of you and more Emma. There will be some busy months for her coming next months, I hope you'll like it as much as I do all the performances of Emma but I am already convinced of that. Thank you for everything and I remember your name to see more of you❤❤❤
So beautiful, their voices sounds so perfect singing together/apart. They also have both that fragile feeling in their voices and in their humanity that they give to us but also how strong they both are. Together they and everyone are stonger and not alone anymore, that gives us hope for all. I also like all the stars shining and the pyama of Emma with the stars. Stars and making wishes, it belongs together so I wish seeing Sting and Emma singing this beautiful song live together for all of us. To share that beautiful song and singing it not only for us, but also for God, the angels, our loved ones who live in heaven together with them. Also for all the animals and specially for the earth, our planet that gives us so much beauty and make living possible for us, thank you and excuse that we often took too much of this beauty when not necessary🙏🙏🙏⏳✨⭐🌟🌠🌌🎵🎶🌍🌎🌏🌄🌇🌱🌲🌳🌴🌿🌸💮🌺🌹🥀🍁🍃🦁🐅🐯🐷🐖🐿🦔🐻❄🐨🐼🐣🐤🐦🐧🦅🦢🐢🐬🦋🫂🧑🤝🧑👏❤❤❤
Roger - thank you so much for putting out these compilations of Emma videos . I cannot get enough of her, I have been completely captivated since Voila and will never be the same!! I am from the US and trying to get the news out about her. Can't wait for her to get here in the states, I'll be the first in line to get tickets. She is a real natural talent and what gets me is the resonant timber of her voice and it is only getting better in such a short time- beautiful, absolutely beautiful. Keep up the promotion......😊
Thank you for the nice comments. I never set out to do much here. I created the Fred and Friends video as a collage from nearly 60 small clips of video and audio primarily for myself because I wanted to get a better feel for the whole show. I found I could get almost all of Emma's content and could cut it together, albeit a little clumsily in places, but I thought "now I have it, why not share it" in the hope that at least someone might also enjoy seeing her in a slightly different arena. Similar to you it seems, I have been following Emma for about 15 months and am consumed by her talent, her character, and her back story. I particularly like to find links between people and events. Therefore I also like to include a little bit of extra information in my videos that I figure others may find interesting. If you can get the chance to see Emma live, please do it. Emma is fantastic in videos, but it is a whole new experience live. I've seen her live twice, once with Andre Rieu and then the concert I recently went to in Geleen and have posted a video of. My video has poor audio but live it is different class. Both times I saw her live, with that voice, and the emotion, it felt like I had an elephant sitting on my chest; difficult to draw breath. Indescribable really. And consider I have watched Emma on video singing Voila maybe 1000|+ times, probably way more. She still manages to affect me. I am so thankful I got tickets to Emma's own concert at Amsterdam's Concertgebouw next October. One extra little bit of info (and sorry, I talk too much when it comes to Emma)...... I think to make the story easier to tell quickly, they simplify the story of Andre Rieu and Emma's first meeting. They always say Andre was shown Emma's 2023 Ministars performance and that prompted him to invite her to his studio to sing live for him. This of course happened; however, it is clear they met much earlier. Emma sang at a Rendezvous concert at the Parkstad Limburg Theater on 15th June 2022 which was a concert to celebrate 40 years since Andre's first album release. Frank Steijns (first violin in andre's orchestra and Andre's principal music arranger) accompanied Emma on piano that night. Emma and Andre were photographed afterwards together. And earlier than that.... You may have seen Emma singing Hallelujah with the male voice choir 'Maastricht Star' (in her red dress from The Voice at the concert for the victims of the Limburg floods in the Valkenburg town square). After this performance which was on 18th August 2021, Emma and Andre were interviewed together on TV, so they definitely knew each other a full 2 years before 'Voila'. A week earlier Emma had performed with her brother and sister along with Frank Steijns again; this time in Heerlen. So, my assumptions is that Andre and his team saw Emma's raw talent early and were watching for just the right time in her development to put her in front of a big audience, for which Ministars was the prompt, but definitely wasn't the initial sighting of her. Again. sorry I ramble on a bit. 😃
Roger - I have seen all the videos you mention here in my searches for everything Emma. I could talk to you for hours about her, don't worry about the rambling. I have seen photos you mention of her and Andre and suspected he knew about her for some time. I have been a fan of Andre for over 20 years and been to at least a dozen of his concerts here in the states. When Emma joined him last year something very unique and special happened. In my comments on UA-cam to Voila, I stated that the performance was a special moment in the history of music and still stand by that statement!!!. I donate regularly to her foundation and created an Instagram account just to follow her solely, lots of photos and videos there. OK - now I'm rambling 😅😅

How old is Emma here? This is really nice.

@@RogerC-2024 Wow, thank you. An incredible talent...and real sweetie to boot.

Emma is the best ever with the most beautiful voice ❤❤
You are exactly right. You may see one of my other Emma videos from where I traveled to Geleen in The Netherlands earlier this month to see her sing in a small venue. I sat front row, centre, about 10 feet from her. The experience was incredible. The sound quality on my video isn't great as it is from just a phone, but no video does her justice. I also saw her live in Birmingham last May with Andre Rieu. I find it difficult to describe what it feels like hearing her sing live. It makes me feel like I'm drowning, her voice seems to penetrate my chest and limits the space in my lungs to draw breath. Its an extraordinary feeling. I've seen a lot of singers live, but none have ever had that effect on me, yet she does it every time.
@@RogerC-2024 I understand, she takes your breath away, so beautiful and emotional she sings. I am happy that she is living her dream and she deserves that. Are you also going to the Disney in Concert in ZiggoDome 4 January 2025? If you do I am sure you will enjoy that. Thank you❤❤❤
Thanks for video, Diva is dancing on the star. Can't wait for official video
Beautifull. I like it. What a bright idea. So special, Thanks, Jacques
She will be an amazing star. Hope the U.S. picks up on this talent. Somehow they think only Americans are talented.
I can understand this, and I assure you all Americans are not the same. Holland is far away, and I don't hear about events, but the day I first saw and heard "Voila" I've been captivated. I'm so taken that I need to tell everyone. Emma is so outstanding; I'm anxious to see and how she's doing. My prayers are with her.
We Americans are a bit spoiled as English is widely spoken around the world, so we gravitate to English/American singers. It also helps that the USA has 18 times more people than the Netherlands. 😁 Emma, however, is a wonder. She is extremely talented and can speak Dutch, English, and German fluently and memorized a French song so well that we grown men cried. Her enunciation is excellent in any language!
Beautiful blend of talents.
Again a song that is perfect saying about her condition. And also again a diamond from her singing. Now very curious what Sting would say about this. 😉
Yes, 'Fragile' she is. I think Sting would love Emma singing this. He would see her talent instantly. I loved the contrast here, the guy who has been there and done it, with professional quality audio etc... then Emma is just standing in her bedroom studio in her pajamas. And yet Emma's is the dynamic voice that carries all the emotion - its extraordinary.
L @@RogerC-2024
@@RogerC-2024 Yes, I also think Sting will love it, I am looking forward for his reaction. And I hope he will ask her to sing life together on the stage, it will be a fairytale for many❤❤❤
Prachtig lieve Emma ..Grtjs en bravo uit Relegem/België !❤
well done Roger 👍
Emma's natural tone has just the edge to sing a rock song like 'Times Are Changing'. She would be a natural singing blues and country as well. These genres fit perfectly in her range. It will be interesting to see what she unveils at her concert next year at the Royal Concert Hall in Amsterdam. It's being billed as orchestral pop music and a mix of Emma's favorite music styles. She'll be 17 then, and who knows what she will be into? Great video. Well done.
There are videos of Emma singing Tina Turner's 'Proud Mary' aka 'Rolling On The River' as a duet with Phil Bee (I have two videos of her doing this) and similarly she sang Stevie Wonder's 'Superstition' with Phil Bee at an outdoor pop festival. I imagine Emma's set list will include these for definite: 'Warrior', 'Laat Mij Een Vlinder Zijn', 'Strijder', 'Voila', 'Dancing....', imagine' and probably 'Out here On My Own'. I'd love it if she would sing 'Father' (she simply folds me up when she sings it)... Let's see. 👍
@@RogerC-2024 Whatever she chooses to include in her program, I'm sure it will be a great and memorable show. Interesting that it sold out in 3 hours a year in advance. That seems rather extraordinary. I have seen Emma's performances of Proud Mary and Superstition with Phil Bee. That is when it struck me how well her voice lent itself to the rock and blues genre. There is a natural, bluesy edge in Emma's lower registry that is perfect for the brooding minor keys of most blues songs. It is only natural and inevitable that as Emma grows older, there will likely be some disagreements among Team Emma as to where she goes next. Right now as a 16 year old, I think she just excepts what's offered to her, and is grateful for the opportunity. As she gets older, however, she is going to have her own ideas about the songs she wants to perform, and the overall direction of her career. That is when things are really going to get interesting. We will see, indeed.
@@RogerC-2024 I have just heard something about a video clip of Emma that was posted by Elon Musk in relation to the American election? She has firmly disavowed any association to the American election, and chastised Musk for using her image without permission on her social media. Do you know anything about this?
Breaking News: Emma, surprisingly, has been caught up in a minor American political scandal. Elon Musk has posted a video in support of Donald Trump on his X account in which Emma appears at the vey beginning for about 1/2 second. The clip of Emma is from her 'Voila' performance and depicts an emphatic, pleading Emma at a point in the performance. As of an hour ago, Emma has posted a firm statement in which she disavows any association with American politics, and chastises Elon Musk for using her likeness, pointing out that she is a 16 year old minor, without her permission. Have you heard of any of this yet? @@RogerC-2024
@@exeter1588 yes, I’ve seen it. Pierre Rieu has since come out saying it was disgusting because it links to text or dialogue saying “if you spill a drop of American blood, we will spill a gallon of yours”. It is disgusting, Emma isn’t even American, and she only espouses peace and respect. It’s very sad.
You've done it again, beautiful video and well edited Roger. 👏👏👍

Thanks for the nice comment. I wish I had known who you were when I was in Geleen 3 weeks ago, it would have been nice to say hello. I was disappointed that I hadn't recorded Serena Vanheuverswijn playing 'Schindler's List' in Geleen but someone posted most of the concert yesterday including Serena's solo. I also note that Emma is on 'Carrie op Vrijdag' on NPO1 tonight at 19:00; I can get that on 'NPO Start' in the UK so I will be watching that. Have a nice weekend.
Did you see Emma on NPO1 on Friday evening. I watched the interview but to say my Dutch is limited is a bold overstatement but I could understand the general outline. But then Emma sang 'Imagine' with good TV quality audio; Wow!!! If you didn't see it: ua-cam.com/video/xpAIqyDybhk/v-deo.html
Thank you for posting. The duet with Belle Perzez was with a song from Ramses Shaffy, one translated line is "let me do my own thing, as I have always done." Very appropriate text for Emma. Rumours in de newspaper this morning are that Emma is a candidate for the Eurovision Songcontest 2025. I am sure she can do that and will blow everybody from the stage.
I have been watching development on Eurovision and saw the news yesterday that Joost will not enter. I have mixed feelings about whether it is a good idea for Emma to do it, but on balance I would love to see her out there with the global audience she deserves. I do agree, with the right song she could easily blow everyone away.
Marvelous that that single performance of Voila in Maastricht in 2023 was so impressive as to catapult her toward the realization of her dream to become a singer. Keep going, Emma! Life is bringing you all the joys you deserve. Que Dieu vous bénisse!
Wow, where did you find this song from Emma. Did not know this at all. Magnificent. Thanks a lot.
