I hope you're still there, but today my dad handed me down his old accordion. He says it's just a toy, it's only got like what 22 keys and 7 chord keys but goddamnit I'm really happy to own it.
All instruments take many hours to learn well, including the lips (whistling) the body (I consider dance as equivalent to music) accordion or whatever. The main limitation is the person's level of desire. It just takes time for the physical skill to become automatic so that you can focus on the musicality. If you love it, you'll get there.
+Jelley Peanuts - And then try playing a pedalboard with your feet! I've been doing it for years, but it took several years of playing on a single keyboard before I could manage pedalling and playing over multiple manuals!
If you know any keyboard instrument, you’ll have the right hand mastered already. If you have a basic idea of chords then the left hand is only a matter of finding those buttons quickly enough. I think accordion is easier than piano because you don’t necessary need to learn play chords manually. If your sheet music says A7 then you just press the A7 button.
Just got 1 for my son its an old Rivoli special red color and so pretty , and not being piano trained, I play percussions but this is a fun & amazing instrument!!

Yu Ju Hsu You would play it the same as a right handed person. It could just take a bit longer to learn. It shouldn't make too much of a difference though.
speed150mph: there is a band ,which has two accordion players, one plays the accordion the right way with piano keys to the right, the other accordion players plays the accordion with the piano keys to the left! It would only require knowing which way is up scale and which is down scale , however most charts for lessons showing where notes are is written for piano keys to the right! So when you play keys going down , you actually go up the scale from lowest not to highest!
If you're left handed, do you turn the accordion around and play the keyboard with your left hand and the buttons with your right hand, or do you just play it the same as right handers?
Middle C on the accordion is not the C in the middle of the keyboard. It's the C in the middle of a piano keyboard and the lowest C on an accordion keyboard. Of course the actual note played depends on the reed(s) selected, but the lowest C is what's called middle C on an accordion. That's because the right hand of an accordion is usually played like the upper half of a piano, with the bass being handled by the left hand.
