Finally found someone on here to get me up to speed on the basics! Thank you so much! I inherited a 12 bass Hohner Student II that was my grandmother's, and I am determined to make it sing again!
Looks simple but since I’m just starting to play the accordion, it’s a challenge to me to coordinate the right and left hands. I’ll keep practicing until I get it right. I think what’s key is to pay attention to where the notes fall in reference to the bass notes. Thanks for the lesson!
Thank you so much for these amazing lessons! I picked up a used accordion from a music shop yesterday on a split-second decision and will be using you as my teacher!
Liberty Bellows Thank you so much for uploading these lessons and each lesson is taught in a very simple and understandable way. I searched so many lessons online but these accordion lesson series are the best online course I found. I am still a beginner at playing the accordion. Coordination is hard but I am sure by practising continuously and following your lesson series I can get rid of that.
Hi, Tony! The advice to divide the phrases before playing and identify the point to invert the bellow movement was very useful to me. Thanks! This song looks easy but the hand shift to finish the first phrase and start the second phrase is not trivial... :-) Best regargs from Brazil
Thank you very much ı have studied accordion with your video for all 20 hours in 12 days yes ı m not good at this but not bad Thank you very much liberty below İ m going on :)
The first few attempts at combining bass and piano keys are quite mind-boggling, but I'm starting to slowly get it after a few minutes of practice. You're a great teacher, thanks for videos like this one!
I found a somewhat beat up accordion in a box next to some trash bins when I went on a walk three weeks ago. Today I decided to put some good use to it and found this video. Damn, is it going to be a challenge learning to play key and bass combined, but I love a good brain workout. Thanks for the videos!
I'm new to the accordion (ie just got a 48 bass yesterday and started practicing today) and was wondering what my goals should be. Should I be aiming to master a lesson and start a new one every week? Also how long should I practice each day?
This is great. What a fantastic resource! I am a beginner player but I only have a full sized accordion--will I be able to follow along with this videos?
There are loads of full sized accordian vids teaching out there! But he did mention he would be moving on to teaching accordians with more bass keys so I'd assume so!
My problem is moving the bellows evenly, I was lent a 12 bass tonight. I can play most stuff in C...as I dabble in piano. Do you have a chart showing the bass notes on the bass section?. But trying to move the bellows and play the bass at the same time, will keep me busy. Any suggestions how to keep it all even?
Thank you Tony. I can play right hand and I can play left hand but the coordination is very difficult. do you have an advice to support the coordination between the two hands?
Thanks Tony for the lessons and MarieHelen for your question -- I see little to no guidance on this issue and would appreciate your advice/exercises, Tony, about coordination of both - piano and bass.
Loved all of these lessons! Bought a used Fontanelle 12 Bass after seeing what could be done. Where could I get the straps you are using here? Aloha from Hawaii, Mike
I know this video is 8 years old but I'm interested in starting to learn this and want to start simple. Not sure where or how to buy my first accordion.
when you press the keys is there a certain way you have to press them with each finger. like when you move your hand must you put it in a certain position. when you do a chord is that the way you have to position your hand and the fingers you need to use for each key? im new to piano
I'm planning on getting a 48 bass piano accordion and i have no experience at all. Do you think I could start learning with these videos even tho mine will be a 48 bass accordion and not a 12 bass or should I begin with something smaller?
I was thinking about getting an accordion with 27 keys and 48 bass buttons. I would like to be able to play at least a few of my favourite pieces of music, from German folk, to classical, even to some movie soundtrack songs, like from Lord of the Rings, etc. The site says it has 26 keys, range B-C, 2 voices, 3 registers. Does that mean I couldn't play something involving D keys so well, like Pachelbel's Canon in D Minor, for example? I have never even really played piano or anything else, but have just listened to a lot of music.
I got one for Christmas. I’ve always wanted to learn to play, but I’ve only played on a toy accordion and have no music experience. What’s messing me up is my black keys go 2 2 3 2.
one of those sets of 2 is actually a 3 it just gets cut off due to space limitations... for anyone just starting and getting stuck on this, imagine the keyboard keeps going in each direction
Mine is 1 2 3 2 1 and 16 bass?? So confusing. Plus, no mark for where C is on the chords or the bass. I don't even remember how long i've had this thing.
Lol I don't think I can play the accordian or piano. I can't multitask at the same time. If I try to play with both hands, it doesn't work. My left hand won't keep a beat while I try to play the other.
Most people aren't born able to multitask. It's not even really a matter of skill so much as it is familiarity. You basically have to play a left hand pattern so much that it becomes second nature, and then slowly add one or two notes in your right hand. It also helps to play it slowly and get used to it. Feel free to repeat phrases a lot until you get used to them.
I always failed to play the piano because I couldn't co-ordinate right and left handed playing, so we'll see how I get on with my Grandad's accordion using two hands...
Please change the title to previous music experience required. you were doing so well when you were explaining the notes but then you started hitting extra keys and did not explain those notes thank you for helping me find C but how the heck am I supposed to know what everything else follows after that

Me too!
i’ve got the same one! thought quarantine would be an ideal time to start
I just got a used 12 bass too and am attempting to play after not picking up an accordion for 50 years.
That's great! I inherited two of my grandfather's accordions as well. One with piano keys and one with all buttons.
I guess I am kinda off topic but does anyone know of a good place to stream new series online?

always welcome
Took me about 40 minutes, not going to lie. However, you made it easier! Thanks.
Me too😂

Hi Tony I have my Grandmother accordion and it came with a complicated book to me. This helps to simplify the book a little. Thank you for now

Really liked this video. Helped me to understand the principle of playing the instrument. Thank you.

Really glad to have found this video. I inherited a 12 bass Horner from the 1920s and am learning to play overseas. Will be looking for more videos!!😊

It was excellent and usable. Help with strengthening the trail and the necessary exercises. be successful
Really helped me. Everyone else seems to have way more buttons and my 12 button accordion doesn't have any indent on C so I didn't know what button.
THANKING YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR WONDERFUL LESSONS .I HAVE JUST BOUGHT MY FIRST 12 BASS ACCORDIAN.YOU MAKE LESSONS FUN !
Thank You very much, along with your lessons and practice anyone can play the magnificent accordion!
Forgive the missing apostrophe

lucky find
Thank you so much! I just got an old 12 bass and your explanations are much appreciated!
Should I start here if I have a 72 bass accordion and just starting to learn how to play

Excellent style of teaching

I'm starting on a 48-bass and following these lessons and it's working just fine for me so far

I'm late to this party - but this is incredibly helpful! Thank you
Thank you Tony. I can play right hand and I can play left hand but the coordination is very difficult. do you have an advice to support the coordination between the two hands?

Hello Alexandra- I have made some progress since I wrote this comment. It took perseverance. I can now keep some simple bit on the left hand.
Great about your progress! Yes, perseverance -- practice, practice. I am just wondering if Tony has any exercises or hints to how to coordinate.
Also have some difficulty getting my left and right hand to work independently from each other. Struggle is real.
Same here, would be great if OP replied.
such a beautiful unit!!
I have an 8 bass, do you have some lessons for this.
Loved all of these lessons! Bought a used Fontanelle 12 Bass after seeing what could be done. Where could I get the straps you are using here? Aloha from Hawaii, Mike
I'm here because of the new "Weird" Al movie. This is fascinating!!

I'm self-teaching on a 120-bass and following along fine, KC. You should be fine with your 48, as long as it's a piano accordion.
Plans to do this with concertina and single row diatonic?
Thank you king
But so far you are making sense of this thing.
Why does the bass notes take up so much air in the bellow?
How much do you charge for sky lesson?
Can you play waltzes on a smaller according like this? And specifically, there's a Russian song called on the Hills of Manchuria
What Akkordeon is That and where to Buy it ?
Amazing tutorial! Thank you so much! Could you include the lyrics? I would love to sing along!
Row, Row, row your boat, gently down the stream,
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,
Life is such a dream!
How would you not know the song row row row your boat :0

Good job man
very well explained
Very well explained.
So the second row of bass notes plays an entire chord, and the first row just plays one note?
Little bit late, but yes lmao
Where is lesson 2?
Can i have a lesson 0 please😭😭😭
started playing my great grandfathers piano accordion, its got bass in the hundreds O_O I'm terrified.
My grandma left me her accordion and she played Mexican music
I like it, I like it a lot... :D

তাহলে আট থেকে একশ কুড়ি । বাখো সমুদয়ের এটাই রেঞ্জ ।
My accordion has 10 times the bass buttons why am I watching this

Hi Michael
I use the playback speed on the you tube video to slow down the video so I can see what keys he is hitting.
Im polish and I don't want to learn accordion!!!
quit playing that stupid stuff.
