I visited on a school trip in the 90s and again in July 2001 when I was visiting a friend who worked as a radio technician on the 110th floor of the north tower. On that day, I had the opportunity to visit the roof of the north tower, which is very rare. My friend died on 9/11, and I was on an AOL chat with him when the attacks began.
they probably jumped because of the fire. everything gets insanely hot in a building once it starts burning, and I mean everything. floors, doors, everything you can touch.
English lass here. Myself, my dad, and sis went on a two week US holiday in 1995. First stop was NYC. First place visited- WTC. We went up the South Tower. I still have my ticket for the Observation Deck and receipts from the Skyline Cafe. Went all the way onto the roof. They were incredible buildings..I remember the ariel on the North Tower interfering with our camcorder and it made a buzzing sound as we filmed….later went on a helicopter ride and filmed the Towers again. Those memories and film footage is very precious…. August before the attacks I told my dad I wanted to see NY again. Will one day and pay my respects…Can’t bear to think about those poor people…I’m glad I’m old enough to have visited the Twins, to have seen views you will never see exactly like that again…and to have known the world pre- September 11th.
Another English lad here. Go to the memorial. It's actually beautiful what they've done. It's very peaceful there too. I was 11 when it happened and had never been before but I'm sure you'd appreciate it, having been there when the twins were there. It was weird standing there though, knowing what happened and seeing clips of it for decades.
I visited the World Trade Center in November 2000 during a family holiday to the US. We went up to the observation deck in the afternoon and stayed there until dusk, then browsed Century 21 and Borders across the street. I was 14 at the time and i will always cherish the memories.

I can’t even imagine how it must have felt to be in NYC that day. But I too wish I could have seen those towers, the inside looked really nice especially the entrance.
Visited the WTC back in 1988 while on a work/vacation & visited a tenant in middle floors. (60-80) Wish I had visited it earlier during college mid '80s but just too busy. Remember the panoramic view while waiting. It was impressive, but the host was meh. He just got used to it. Every time I see it I'm just saddened. God Bless.
I was a San Francisco police officer in 1989 and was in New York City visiting fellow NYPD officers and had the opportunity to visit the WTC and did not, I thought it was only office buildings. I recall looking at it from a distance though and was impressed by its height and design. I truly regret missing my opportunity to visit this Great American Icon.God bless all those First responders and civilians who perished that day, life has never been the same since.
Thanks I was up there with my mother just a couple years before the muslim extreamist destroyed it. The U.S. would have demolished it by now anyways, it was not that well built.
I have a severe fear of heights but was persuaded to go up onto the roof of the WTC in 1998, and I'm so glad I did. The views were stunning and best of all I felt completely safe. There was no sensation of movement, which I'd worried myself stupid about. The only thing I couldn't bring myself to do was go anywhere near the floor to ceiling windows in the restaurant. These made my legs buckle.
That's always been my biggest worry when going into tall buildings! I fear it's gonna sway and the movement will be very obvious. I've had tons of dreams where I'm in a tall building that falls over. But that's reassuring, to say the least.
People born in 2000 and afterwards will never realize just how much life became twisted and bizarre in the US after these towers fell. Been like a spiral ever since.

In 1997 I was visiting NY and stood in front of the Twin Towers; and I remember thinking: "No way that I will go up there, what if something happens ?" To work there every day seemed very heroic to me.
I believe there are some people who worked there on 9/11 (whether there on the day or sick/day off) who have come back to 1WTC to work, now. Strong people.

Its always good when you plan a trip like this, and the weather turns out great on the day, I had really sunny trip visiting the observation deck amazing view, the gift shop there was excellent, still got my New York City skyline mug.
My parents visited the WTC in the late 80s or early 90s. They were surprised by how quiet it was on the observation deck, even though there was a massive city all around the place. After watching this I see what they're talking about.
You could barely hear the traffic from out on the roof it was a wonderful experience, was there April 2001 visiting from Europe RIP all who lost their lives.

Went up there in August 1999 but it was late at night so we got the ultimate view of NYC. It was intimidating seeing the roof of the North Tower from the South Tower and couldn't believe that I was standing on top of those iconic landmarks of the world. There are no words to describe what it was like. But I never expected that it would be quite literally a once in a lifetime experience from me, given the predicament that occurred exactly twenty years ago on this day. I know I will cherish that experience indefinitely.
Yeah.. Peceful day. Almost as peaceful as that day when George W. Bush and Dick Cheney planted demolition charges in Building 7 and in the Twin Towers.
Days were bright blue, adventurous, and filled with life back in 2000. Families were closer together and holidays were celebrated religiously. Everyone was always out and about. Life has changed soooo damn much since then its so odd.

The feeling on the roof was simply magical. I stayed as long as they let me. To this day I have a sick pain in my gut thinking of the horror, death, and suffering due to 9/11. No number of years will ever change that.

I feel privileged having had the opportunity to be up there and enjoy that magnificent vista back in 2000. Who would have thought it would end up being such a historical privilege. Seeing videos like this now, my thoughts revolve not around the beautiful vista and my own memories, but around the fact that this is what those poor souls were seeing that dreadful day before their lives ended tragically (and before some 200 brave folks decided that they'd rather die "flying" than burning or suffocating). Still incomprehensible after all these years.
At least you are killed instantly except for that last few seconds of pain. I don’t know. I think I’d rather pass out from smoke inhalation, try to avoid fire. And die from smoke. That’s how scared of heights I am. But who knows until in that situation, but I will never go up a building that high. Other then on a plane.

As a kid going by many of the buildings in New York, where my dad’s from (he was actually born in New Jersey), I’ve always found each one of them very fascinating, and worth telling, especially when looking out at the New York skyline. He’s even told me his moments of when he’s visited not only the ESB, the Chrysler, RCMH, Rockefeller Plaza, and yes, the WTC. We’ve even visited NYC a few times, when the WTC was still standing, during its last few years, but really kills me to this day, that no one ever took a picture of me, or we went on the NYC boat tours (I wasn’t ready to travel on a boat, yet), when the towers were still there. Yeah. There were a lot of times, where I wished that a day like Tuesday, September 11th, 2001, never would’ve happened at all, or that I wished I would’ve been born much earlier, to see that they were still standing together. 🇺🇸#NeverForget🇺🇸

I took a school trip to NYC back in the 90's in 8th grade, saw the World Trade Center from a distance on the Ferry I think. Got a couple pics but never got to go to the top but I heard the view is absolutely INCREDIBLE.

Alex Perez there were eye witnesses that saw black vans fleeing the zone of the World Trade Center that morning. And workers also stated that there were sudden power outages in the upper half of the buildings and sudden evacuations of each buildings
There are reports, and surveillance video that record people entering the building between 3-5 am every night for more than 2 weeks leading up to 9/11. Also, the designer of the buildings himself said that they could have handled being hit by multiple planes and not completely collapsed like they did. Many, many mechanical engineers and architects agree that the buildings look as though they were destroyed in a controlled demolition. Even the family members of the victims are still pushing for a more thorough investigation. Not to mention, WTC7, a 47 story building that was never hit by anything free fell in just seconds due to "office fires". The evidence is there, but it's harder to convince people that they've been deceived than to deceive them. Some people want to believe that their government cares about them, and that they'd never be evil enough to do something like this, and I understand why, but all I'm saying is that we can't take everything the government has said to us regarding this tragedy at face value.
And what it takes for building to fall at freefall speeds? Physics surely not, cause that collapse contradicts it all the way... Now did Newton read about physics on internet aswell?
Truly iconic structures. I grew up seeing them as an integral part of the NYC skyline. I remember having lunch there at Windows on the World when I was in college and interning at Merrill Lynch in the early 90s. I've been up top in the new building too, which is very nice, but it'll never take the place of those towers. The skyline, and the city, just hasn't been the same since.

I feel sorry for the people above the wreckage they either died of smoke inhalation or burned to death. Chances are no one from the window of the world restaurant was alive when the tower fell. It upsets me to think people were being told to stay in the building and wait for instructions. They could've gotten out immediately if they disregarded that announcement. RIP to all that were lost on 9/11.
I've never been to NY but it is chilling to see this footage to know that only a year later, the towers fates were to be destroyed by two planes in a terrorist attack. Very tragic. 😔 RIP to all those lost that day.

it sounds crazy but if i worked in a sky scraper i would get parachute lessons and have a parachute under my desk at all times.. in the event we couldnt get down like 9/11 id be busting that window and trying my luck.
@Sparky Malarky From my understanding most skyscrapers are still not high enough for regular parachutes. Also there's an issue with updrafts. But I'm absolutely no expert.

I am so glad I was able to visit and see the view from the very top. I remember when I was younger looking straight up trying to see the top from the street level. Those building were larger than life.
Was there in October 2000 on a school trip. All of us were so excited at the height of the two buildings, even dining at the restaurants up top and taking in the view. We begged our teacher to let us come back on another trip next year and he said he’d think about it. Flash forward to June 2000, He told us he was moving up a grade with us and if we got him again there’s going to be another trip early September (no set date) to see the WTC and Chrysler buildings. Trip never happened that year, but it’s always haunted me what the date could’ve been

@@SenseiDenax Lots of disbelief at what occurred. The majority of people went back to work as did I. I visited Ground Zero a few weeks later and felt deeply saddened.
Both of these buildings almost made it. They were engineered to take a hit from the biggest plane of the time. (Boeing 707) They were hit with planes that weighed twice as much and were loaded with full fuel tanks. Both planes were traveling at over 500 knots. That didn't knock either tower over and they remained standing. That was incredible. Had the resin used to adhere fireproofing to floor joists been just a few years younger, it may not have failed and the buildings may have stayed up.
The difference between the two planes is 6 ft in length and 10 ft in wingspan with only a 900 gallons difference in fuel capacity (planes don't get filled up with fuel, they only get what is needed for the trip), also the 707 has more thrust and travels over 80 mph faster than the 767 which makes them almost equal on damage calculations. Also idk if you know anything about engineering but the maximum allowance on any measurement usually has a buffer allowance, take for example an elevator, the elevator may say it has a maximum weight allowance of 300lbs but the actual number is 1000lbs so when they designed the wtc they knew planes would get bigger and they also didn't calculate it for just a 707, otherwise a 707 hitting it and a strong wind would bring it down
@@hotshot6923 I don't know a thing about engineering. I'm just repeating what a read and I don't care what you say, both buildings actually withstood those hits. 900 gallons, 80 mph faster? Doesn't mean a thing to me. I just know they both took hits by large commercial jets loaded with fuel and stayed standing for quite some time after that happened. My only comment was to the incredible architectural ability that allowed and also foresaw such an event and for a while, worked.

@@hotshot6923 Absolutely. I agree with that completely. If the fireproofing had not been blown off joists, It would have done its job, joists would not have been heated to failure. I SAY the buildings came close to remaining standing. Both of them. Had fireproofing remained on floor joists, I believe firefighters would have made up to those floors and could have possibly stopped the fires. What would have happened to the buildings after something like that happened, I have no idea, but those towers damn near stayed up.

Actually, this is a fact... _There was only one observation deck, which was on the South Tower. Since it opened up at 9:30 and wasn’t open at the time of the crashes, no tourists were up on the observation deck. The express elevators to the 107th floor observation deck were out of service due to the observation deck not being open yet, which probably means that there were no observation deck workers there at the time. There was a tourist from Winnipeg on the 105th floor visiting her Brother’s office who died. I think she might’ve been the only known tourist that died._
I hate heights, I would have never worked there because of that. God bless all involved with 9/11 but I would have to have burned up there before jumping.
Every time I was up there I had an uneasy feeling. It was more than just being scared of heights. A feeling of I need to get out of here. My brother and I used to stand on the corner of the building from the ground and look up. Now that was an amazing feeling in itself.
Travelled over from England in May 1997 and went up the south tower to the indoor observation deck a couple of floors or so down from the roof. Amazingly, we ended up being evacuated after about an hour enjoying the views by the NYFD, who did a sterling job and had us all back on terra firma and outside the building in literally a minute or two. Turns out there was something happening in the kitchen on that floor, a small fire broke out I think - smoke was coming from something in the kitchen area at least. Everybody was all fine as far as I know. Fast forward 4 and a bit years later. I really can't bear to imagine what it must have been like for the poor souls in those towers and around them on that day, or the other incidents on that day for that matter. Never forget.
Just looking at those views from up there sends my vertigo soaring. How people used to go up there and stand near those railings and look down is something I could have never done. My feet are tingling as I'm typing lol.
I was lucky enough to have been up there in October 1978, life was so much better then. Taking the 45s lift to the top was awesome and the view was breathtaking. Why can't humans live together with respect for others, wouldn't the world be better for it?

I visited from the U.K. and went up the tower late afternoon one Saturday in October 1999. Loved the view out to the Statue of Liberty and up Manhattan. Was the finest view of any city I’ve ever seen. Was glad our military were involved in bringing to justice those who destroyed them and our government stood shoulder to shoulder with the US. Personally I think they should have rebuilt them exactly as they were only bigger.

Aside from the horrible attacks, I always get to be amazed again, that they were able to construct this kind of huge building in freaking 1966. When they fell in 2001, they were already ancient, but had the technology to withstand those insanely hot fires for very long. Nobody talks about, how the pure quality of those buildings was responsible for saving numerous lifes on that tragic day. The designers and creators of those buildings had all reason to be satisfied with what they put together.
It was quite poorly constructed. The Twin Towers were exempt from any fire or safety codes because they were built by Port Authority which is a government agency. The core was so poorly designed, the fact it was standing longer than it was is even surprising.
This brings tears to my eyes. I used to work nearby. These pictures bring back so many memories. I always loved going there with my grandmother when she was still alive. Now she's gone and the World Trade Center as well😢
Did this in 1980 on a trip to the US and then in 1993 on our honeymoon, We will return one day to NY where we had a fantastic time back then. Still can’t forget that dreadful day on 9/11 and the bravery of all those firefighters, police, ambulance drivers, medics and everyone else who perished on that awful day. The visitor center didn't open until 09.30 and because of that no tourists/visitors where up there at time of the impact. But it's a scary thought anyway, right?
That day all of our lives were changed forever. I was in the 10th grade when this happened. My history teacher said thing will never be the same again. We all were crying and in shock this day.
I almost got a panic attack watching this video. I don't believe it was just this video that almost caused it, rather, it was this video in addition to the mental images- now forever imprinted in my brain- of commercial airplanes smashing into the buildings and people jumping out of windows. Firefighters climbing the stairs of the towers that would be collapsing with out notice right on top of them. All of that played in my head while watching this clip...seeing the height at which this all played out is nerve wracking.
My son is now 45 but I have a great picture of him at age 11 when his dad took him to NJ and NYC...they are on a harbor tour and the towers are behind them 🥰
I was on the viewing deck in August 1999 just 2 years before 9/11. I still remember being in awe of the height and grandure of the buildings. A very memorable visit to NYC. To this day, I see so many movies (Escape from New York is a great one) with the towers in the background and many Friends episodes that remind me of them. Losing all those lives is horribly tragic.
My older brother worked at WTC 1, for several months he was in the process of divorcing his wife, and on 9/11 he had a summons to court. But he had no intention of going, since he had work and he preferred to go do it, but on 9/11 in the early morning his wife arrived very upset and they had a very strong argument, so he decided to go to the hearing 8:00. Therefore, that decision saved his life since he worked on the upper floors of the north tower and would not have been able to survive. When the attack took place, his wife hugged him, cried, and they backed down on the divorce. Today they are still together.
I’m so glad I was fortunate enough to have visited the original WTC and go up to the observation deck on the south tower. It was 2 years before 9/11 - I still have vivid memories of the visit. Even after 20 years, it’s hard to imagine these tremendous buildings are no longer there.
I visited the Twin Towers when I was a young teenager, together with my father somewhere around in 1987 or 1988 - and I just loved them! Amazing buildings. We were there until around late afternoon / early evening, the sun was going down slowly, a beautiful sunset was about to start, wonderful sight, and I remember that a helicopter was flying pretty close by the Towers about 30 metres lower than us. It was an amazing view from up there, I really loved the visit there. And I will never forget the horrible day of 9/11, I will never forget that day, how I turned on my TV and suddenly saw the horrible news and couldnt believe the horror that I was watching. I went to the memorial in 2014.. As a now 31 year old growing up watching 90s movies, these towers were iconic.. I can only imagine being there on top looking over NYC..
Me & my sis were over from the U.K. in Feb 2001 - we went up in the lift, our ears popped, and we stood on top of one of the towers - staggering views. Not a cloud in the sky, the same as 9/11 - I have been back post 9/11 - definitely a different feel about the place ❤
I was 10 when 9/11 happened and obviously I didn’t really know what to think or even how to process it so I don’t really remember much about it at the time, but I do remember seeing it on the news and seeing George Bush with his speech/press conference. Fast forward 22 years and I’ve watched several documentary’s and the thing that gets me watching this is the height and when the person’s filming looking down at streets, the cars look like dots. Can’t even comprehend what it must have been like for the people that had to jump. And that one guy that shimmied down from over the 100th floor down to the 20th floor and then lost his grip. Very sad.
We went in 1982 and dad taught us to bend our knees on that long elevator ride. He also had us stop and notice it gently moving slightly in the wind. It was not crowded when we went and we took fun pictures. Always loved the look of the outside of the building & would admire it on other visits. Sending love to nyc.

Respect for those who died on that day. That was the day America was hurt badly not just two buildings dying but a loss of nearly 3,000 people. Respect to the paramedics, the cops and the firemen. And those of you who lost someone important just because they died in the world doesn’t mean they’ll leave you. RESPECT. I was born 4 yrs after 9/11 I found out about the attacks when I was 12 from a TV series known as ‘Quantico’.
As bad as 3K is, what people don't realize is that the initial death toll was expected to be 10-20K, which was a big part of the shock. and it took weeks to even get a real estimate. The search and rescue at ground zero lasted 8 months, and its not like you can get a body count because most of the deceased were simply pulverized. The only thing they could do was find out who was working that morning and one by one confirm whether they were missing or safe. I believe the FBI/CIA went though the rubble and tested every piece of debris for human DNA, both for the family of the victims and likely for intelligence to find the DNA sequence of the terrorists, as forensic technology was advancing at the time.
It's weird when you see old movies and you'll see the Twin Towers in the Skyline. Straight away you think of 9/11...

English lass here. Myself, my dad, and sis went on a two week US holiday in 1995. First stop was NYC. First place visited- WTC. We went up the South Tower. I still have my ticket for the Observation Deck and receipts from the Skyline Cafe. Went all the way onto the roof. They were incredible buildings..I remember the ariel on the North Tower interfering with our camcorder and it made a buzzing sound as we filmed….later went on a helicopter ride and filmed the Towers again. Those memories and film footage is very precious…. August before the attacks I told my dad I wanted to see NY again. Will one day and pay my respects…Can’t bear to think about those poor people…I’m glad I’m old enough to have visited the Twins, to have seen views you will never see exactly like that again…and to have known the world pre- September 11th.

Another English lad here. Go to the memorial. It's actually beautiful what they've done. It's very peaceful there too. I was 11 when it happened and had never been before but I'm sure you'd appreciate it, having been there when the twins were there. It was weird standing there though, knowing what happened and seeing clips of it for decades.
I visited the World Trade Center in November 2000 during a family holiday to the US. We went up to the observation deck in the afternoon and stayed there until dusk, then browsed Century 21 and Borders across the street. I was 14 at the time and i will always cherish the memories.

I can’t even imagine how it must have felt to be in NYC that day. But I too wish I could have seen those towers, the inside looked really nice especially the entrance.

Visited the WTC back in 1988 while on a work/vacation & visited a tenant in middle floors. (60-80) Wish I had visited it earlier during college mid '80s but just too busy. Remember the panoramic view while waiting. It was impressive, but the host was meh. He just got used to it. Every time I see it I'm just saddened. God Bless.

I was a San Francisco police officer in 1989 and was in New York City visiting fellow NYPD officers and had the opportunity to visit the WTC and did not, I thought it was only office buildings. I recall looking at it from a distance though and was impressed by its height and design. I truly regret missing my opportunity to visit this Great American Icon.God bless all those First responders and civilians who perished that day, life has never been the same since.

Thanks I was up there with my mother just a couple years before the muslim extreamist destroyed it. The U.S. would have demolished it by now anyways, it was not that well built.
I have a severe fear of heights but was persuaded to go up onto the roof of the WTC in 1998, and I'm so glad I did. The views were stunning and best of all I felt completely safe. There was no sensation of movement, which I'd worried myself stupid about. The only thing I couldn't bring myself to do was go anywhere near the floor to ceiling windows in the restaurant. These made my legs buckle.

That's always been my biggest worry when going into tall buildings! I fear it's gonna sway and the movement will be very obvious. I've had tons of dreams where I'm in a tall building that falls over. But that's reassuring, to say the least.

In 1997 I was visiting NY and stood in front of the Twin Towers; and I remember thinking: "No way that I will go up there, what if something happens ?" To work there every day seemed very heroic to me.
I believe there are some people who worked there on 9/11 (whether there on the day or sick/day off) who have come back to 1WTC to work, now. Strong people.

My parents visited the WTC in the late 80s or early 90s. They were surprised by how quiet it was on the observation deck, even though there was a massive city all around the place. After watching this I see what they're talking about.

Went up there in August 1999 but it was late at night so we got the ultimate view of NYC. It was intimidating seeing the roof of the North Tower from the South Tower and couldn't believe that I was standing on top of those iconic landmarks of the world. There are no words to describe what it was like. But I never expected that it would be quite literally a once in a lifetime experience from me, given the predicament that occurred exactly twenty years ago on this day.
I know I will cherish that experience indefinitely.
This day right here right now. This was the most peaceful time in the world. And it was all just taken away.

As a kid going by many of the buildings in New York, where my dad’s from (he was actually born in New Jersey), I’ve always found each one of them very fascinating, and worth telling, especially when looking out at the New York skyline. He’s even told me his moments of when he’s visited not only the ESB, the Chrysler, RCMH, Rockefeller Plaza, and yes, the WTC.
We’ve even visited NYC a few times, when the WTC was still standing, during its last few years, but really kills me to this day, that no one ever took a picture of me, or we went on the NYC boat tours (I wasn’t ready to travel on a boat, yet), when the towers were still there. Yeah. There were a lot of times, where I wished that a day like Tuesday, September 11th, 2001, never would’ve happened at all, or that I wished I would’ve been born much earlier, to see that they were still standing together.

Alex Perez there were eye witnesses that saw black vans fleeing the zone of the World Trade Center that morning. And workers also stated that there were sudden power outages in the upper half of the buildings and sudden evacuations of each buildings
There are reports, and surveillance video that record people entering the building between 3-5 am every night for more than 2 weeks leading up to 9/11. Also, the designer of the buildings himself said that they could have handled being hit by multiple planes and not completely collapsed like they did. Many, many mechanical engineers and architects agree that the buildings look as though they were destroyed in a controlled demolition. Even the family members of the victims are still pushing for a more thorough investigation. Not to mention, WTC7, a 47 story building that was never hit by anything free fell in just seconds due to "office fires". The evidence is there, but it's harder to convince people that they've been deceived than to deceive them. Some people want to believe that their government cares about them, and that they'd never be evil enough to do something like this, and I understand why, but all I'm saying is that we can't take everything the government has said to us regarding this tragedy at face value.
And what it takes for building to fall at freefall speeds? Physics surely not, cause that collapse contradicts it all the way... Now did Newton read about physics on internet aswell?

Truly iconic structures. I grew up seeing them as an integral part of the NYC skyline. I remember having lunch there at Windows on the World when I was in college and interning at Merrill Lynch in the early 90s. I've been up top in the new building too, which is very nice, but it'll never take the place of those towers. The skyline, and the city, just hasn't been the same since.

I am so glad I was able to visit and see the view from the very top. I remember when I was younger looking straight up trying to see the top from the street level. Those building were larger than life.
Was there in October 2000 on a school trip. All of us were so excited at the height of the two buildings, even dining at the restaurants up top and taking in the view. We begged our teacher to let us come back on another trip next year and he said he’d think about it.
Flash forward to June 2000, He told us he was moving up a grade with us and if we got him again there’s going to be another trip early September (no set date) to see the WTC and Chrysler buildings.
Trip never happened that year, but it’s always haunted me what the date could’ve been

Both of these buildings almost made it. They were engineered to take a hit from the biggest plane of the time. (Boeing 707)
They were hit with planes that weighed twice as much and were loaded with full fuel tanks. Both planes were traveling at over 500 knots.
That didn't knock either tower over and they remained standing. That was incredible.
Had the resin used to adhere fireproofing to floor joists been just a few years younger, it may not have failed and the buildings may have stayed up.
The difference between the two planes is 6 ft in length and 10 ft in wingspan with only a 900 gallons difference in fuel capacity (planes don't get filled up with fuel, they only get what is needed for the trip), also the 707 has more thrust and travels over 80 mph faster than the 767 which makes them almost equal on damage calculations. Also idk if you know anything about engineering but the maximum allowance on any measurement usually has a buffer allowance, take for example an elevator, the elevator may say it has a maximum weight allowance of 300lbs but the actual number is 1000lbs so when they designed the wtc they knew planes would get bigger and they also didn't calculate it for just a 707, otherwise a 707 hitting it and a strong wind would bring it down
@@hotshot6923 I don't know a thing about engineering. I'm just repeating what a read and I don't care what you say, both buildings actually withstood those hits. 900 gallons, 80 mph faster? Doesn't mean a thing to me. I just know they both took hits by large commercial jets loaded with fuel and stayed standing for quite some time after that happened. My only comment was to the incredible architectural ability that allowed and also foresaw such an event and for a while, worked.
In my view, BOTH buildings would have stayed up had fireproofing not been blown off joists.

I SAY the buildings came close to remaining standing. Both of them. Had fireproofing remained on floor joists, I believe firefighters would have made up to those floors and could have possibly stopped the fires.
What would have happened to the buildings after something like that happened, I have no idea, but those towers damn near stayed up.

Actually, this is a fact...
_There was only one observation deck, which was on the South Tower. Since it opened up at 9:30 and wasn’t open at the time of the crashes, no tourists were up on the observation deck. The express elevators to the 107th floor observation deck were out of service due to the observation deck not being open yet, which probably means that there were no observation deck workers there at the time.
There was a tourist from Winnipeg on the 105th floor visiting her Brother’s office who died. I think she might’ve been the only known tourist that died._

Every time I was up there I had an uneasy feeling. It was more than just being scared of heights. A feeling of I need to get out of here. My brother and I used to stand on the corner of the building from the ground and look up. Now that was an amazing feeling in itself.

Travelled over from England in May 1997 and went up the south tower to the indoor observation deck a couple of floors or so down from the roof. Amazingly, we ended up being evacuated after about an hour enjoying the views by the NYFD, who did a sterling job and had us all back on terra firma and outside the building in literally a minute or two. Turns out there was something happening in the kitchen on that floor, a small fire broke out I think - smoke was coming from something in the kitchen area at least. Everybody was all fine as far as I know. Fast forward 4 and a bit years later. I really can't bear to imagine what it must have been like for the poor souls in those towers and around them on that day, or the other incidents on that day for that matter. Never forget.
Just looking at those views from up there sends my vertigo soaring. How people used to go up there and stand near those railings and look down is something I could have never done. My feet are tingling as I'm typing lol.
And to think people had to jump from that height
I was lucky enough to have been up there in October 1978, life was so much better then. Taking the 45s lift to the top was awesome and the view was breathtaking. Why can't humans live together with respect for others, wouldn't the world be better for it?

I visited from the U.K. and went up the tower late afternoon one Saturday in October 1999. Loved the view out to the Statue of Liberty and up Manhattan. Was the finest view of any city I’ve ever seen.
Was glad our military were involved in bringing to justice those who destroyed them and our government stood shoulder to shoulder with the US.
Personally I think they should have rebuilt them exactly as they were only bigger.
Such a turn of the century style holiday video. The way we all record ourselves now is so different, i never really realised until now. The way we used to do slow pans of the skyline like you're gonna be interested in that when watching it back. If I ever see old home videos now I'm just interested in the people that are in them

Aside from the horrible attacks, I always get to be amazed again, that they were able to construct this kind of huge building in freaking 1966. When they fell in 2001, they were already ancient, but had the technology to withstand those insanely hot fires for very long. Nobody talks about, how the pure quality of those buildings was responsible for saving numerous lifes on that tragic day. The designers and creators of those buildings had all reason to be satisfied with what they put together.
I wouldn’t go as far as calling 35 years ancient. Look at the Empire State Building. It’s 92 years old and is still the icon of the NY skyline.
No they didn't. The fire escapes were extremely faulty and narrow. More people would've gotten out had they been to code.
It was quite poorly constructed. The Twin Towers were exempt from any fire or safety codes because they were built by Port Authority which is a government agency. The core was so poorly designed, the fact it was standing longer than it was is even surprising.
This brings tears to my eyes. I used to work nearby. These pictures bring back so many memories. I always loved going there with my grandmother when she was still alive. Now she's gone and the World Trade Center as well😢
All I can think about when watching this is how scared those thousands of people inside and the ones that decided to jump on 9/11 must have been :/

We will return one day to NY where we had a fantastic time back then. Still can’t forget that dreadful day on 9/11 and the bravery of all those firefighters, police, ambulance drivers, medics and everyone else who perished on that awful day.

The visitor center didn't open until 09.30 and because of that no tourists/visitors where up there at time of the impact.
But it's a scary thought anyway, right?

That day all of our lives were changed forever. I was in the 10th grade when this happened. My history teacher said thing will never be the same again. We all were crying and in shock this day.

I almost got a panic attack watching this video. I don't believe it was just this video that almost caused it, rather, it was this video in addition to the mental images- now forever imprinted in my brain- of commercial airplanes smashing into the buildings and people jumping out of windows. Firefighters climbing the stairs of the towers that would be collapsing with out notice right on top of them. All of that played in my head while watching this clip...seeing the height at which this all played out is nerve wracking.

My son is now 45 but I have a great picture of him at age 11 when his dad took him to NJ and NYC...they are on a harbor tour and the towers are behind them 🥰
I was on the viewing deck in August 1999 just 2 years before 9/11. I still remember being in awe of the height and grandure of the buildings. A very memorable visit to NYC. To this day, I see so many movies (Escape from New York is a great one) with the towers in the background and many Friends episodes that remind me of them.
Losing all those lives is horribly tragic.

My older brother worked at WTC 1, for several months he was in the process of divorcing his wife, and on 9/11 he had a summons to court. But he had no intention of going, since he had work and he preferred to go do it, but on 9/11 in the early morning his wife arrived very upset and they had a very strong argument, so he decided to go to the hearing 8:00. Therefore, that decision saved his life since he worked on the upper floors of the north tower and would not have been able to survive. When the attack took place, his wife hugged him, cried, and they backed down on the divorce. Today they are still together.
I’m so glad I was fortunate enough to have visited the original WTC and go up to the observation deck on the south tower. It was 2 years before 9/11 - I still have vivid memories of the visit. Even after 20 years, it’s hard to imagine these tremendous buildings are no longer there.

I visited the Twin Towers when I was a young teenager, together with my father somewhere around in 1987 or 1988 - and I just loved them! Amazing buildings.
We were there until around late afternoon / early evening, the sun was going down slowly, a beautiful sunset was about to start, wonderful sight, and I remember that a helicopter was flying pretty close by the Towers about 30 metres lower than us. It was an amazing view from up there, I really loved the visit there.
And I will never forget the horrible day of 9/11, I will never forget that day, how I turned on my TV and suddenly saw the horrible news and couldnt believe the horror that I was watching.

As a now 31 year old growing up watching 90s movies, these towers were iconic.. I can only imagine being there on top looking over NYC..
Me & my sis were over from the U.K. in Feb 2001 - we went up in the lift, our ears popped, and we stood on top of one of the towers - staggering views. Not a cloud in the sky, the same as 9/11 - I have been back post 9/11 - definitely a different feel about the place ❤
I was 10 when 9/11 happened and obviously I didn’t really know what to think or even how to process it so I don’t really remember much about it at the time, but I do remember seeing it on the news and seeing George Bush with his speech/press conference. Fast forward 22 years and I’ve watched several documentary’s and the thing that gets me watching this is the height and when the person’s filming looking down at streets, the cars look like dots. Can’t even comprehend what it must have been like for the people that had to jump. And that one guy that shimmied down from over the 100th floor down to the 20th floor and then lost his grip. Very sad.
I was there on the south tower observation deck in 1998. My first and last time in NYC.
We went in 1982 and dad taught us to bend our knees on that long elevator ride. He also had us stop and notice it gently moving slightly in the wind. It was not crowded when we went and we took fun pictures. Always loved the look of the outside of the building & would admire it on other visits. Sending love to nyc.

Respect for those who died on that day. That was the day America was hurt badly not just two buildings dying but a loss of nearly 3,000 people. Respect to the paramedics, the cops and the firemen. And those of you who lost someone important just because they died in the world doesn’t mean they’ll leave you.
RESPECT. I was born 4 yrs after 9/11 I found out about the attacks when I was 12 from a TV series known as ‘Quantico’.
As bad as 3K is, what people don't realize is that the initial death toll was expected to be 10-20K, which was a big part of the shock.
and it took weeks to even get a real estimate. The search and rescue at ground zero lasted 8 months, and its not like you can get a body count because most of the deceased were simply pulverized. The only thing they could do was find out who was working that morning and one by one confirm whether they were missing or safe. I believe the FBI/CIA went though the rubble and tested every piece of debris for human DNA, both for the family of the victims and likely for intelligence to find the DNA sequence of the terrorists, as forensic technology was advancing at the time.
