- Paint job review on my 89 k5 blazer. Did it all myself in my garage no experience besides UA-cam and a friend advice that paints professionally. Three coats of epoxy. Eight coats of high build primer. One seal coat, three coats of gray, three coats of blue, and 4 coats of clear coat. Took 6 months off and on to do all the body work and paint. #squarebody #k5blazer #squarebodychevy #diypainting
That turned out great for a first time painter. When you walk through a car show, people don't realize some of the best paint jobs there were done in people's garages. You can take a lot more time and focus on details that most body shops don't have time for. Nice job!
Thank you bro, I’m very proud of it. Lot of time spent in UA-cam and a sander.
@@205_bowties I know exactly what you mean. You'll be watching me go through that whole process on mine as soon as I get this engine/trans stuff done! I'm gonna show you how to do custom pearls in the paint too.

Beautiful paint job. I was wondering from watching your other video. Why so many coats of paint? I’m gearing up to paint mine as well. Wasn’t too sure at first but now I’m all in haha!
I took a lot of it down to bare metal so I put 2 coats of epoxy before I started high build primer. Block sanded the entire body 2 times. Hood was 3 times. Plus the seal coat before I even started my base coat. I was trying to get the body panels as straight as possible. I ordered 1 gallon of high build primer, 1 gallon of epoxy primer.
@@205_bowties epoxy primer for bare metal and then high build after? What grit sand paper did you sand your primer with? Paint plus primer equaled about 25 coats? I’ll need to take mine down to metal in certain spots where bindi from previous body work has popped/cracked. I’m taking notes from everything I’m seeing and like to apply to how I’m going to do mine.
@@bowtiebuilding I block sanded with 320 grit each time I block sanded. And my final I wet sanded with 400 before I did my sealer coat of reduced down epoxy.
Very nice for a first time painter.
Couple of random questions: What spray gun and paint brand did you use?
Thank you, I used eastwoods LT100 with 3 different tip sizes. 1.7 for primer 1.3 for base and I think 1.4 for clear coat. I used sherwin-Williams for my base colors and clear coat.
Thanks for that info and again, thanks for inspiring us other first time painters out here.@@205_bowties
@@rmchevelle not a problem, glad I could help somebody.
What’s the paint code for the Victoria blue
What kind of front seat did u put in and how did u make them fit
Seats are out of 2013 Silverado work truck all manual seats. I replaced all my floor pans when I did the seats so all new holes. And seats are sitting on 3/8 steel flat bar. Also used the same bar under the floor. Check out my instagram @205bowties it shows a lot more of the project
