set the blender units to 0.001 and it will match 1:1 with the slicer. thanks for the video!.. also recalculate outside SAVED MY LIFE.. thanks for that :) it was driving me nuts!
Using it on 3.6 with a slapped together png in krita and it is so much easier than the ones sculpting directly on the cylinder. Had some stumbling but was able to figure it out by following along visually. Many thanks. Saved the core as it's own file to add more textures later. 🤩 Added a Action Recorder to reproduce the shape in a macro
Fantastic! i’ve been making a bunch of these today! LOL. Once I figured out how to make use of a non existant number pad on my Mac… I went to Edit then Preferences, then went down to Keymap. From there, go down the list to 3D View, then Mesh, then Mesh Global. From here go down the list to Select More and change the keybind to command = (I know it’s not a plus sign lol but it works). then go down to Select Less and change the keybind to command - and that’s that! now you don’t need a number pad on your laptop to get past the CTRL + section of the video :)
@sophiemulders you probably could. But if you are going to 3d print it, it does need some thickness. To hollow it out you can use a subtraction boolean with a cylinder that is smaller than the roller. Most slicing software has a hollow feature I would choose to do it there.
@zaap125 if you were doing this on a tube that was given to you chances are that tube's uvs were not unwrapped based on your description of stripes. Or around the 6 min mark there is an explanation of how to deal with uvs coordinates.
Following and everything is working great but when I go to move the dot off the work surface I select it but it doesn’t move off square. Working on pc please help
Time stamp 5:23. It won’t move the tiny dot. Secondly could you do a tutorial on how to make a hollow texture roller or tell me what steps I can change to do a hollow one? Thank you for your help
@yourcreativeplayground6829 press G to move selected UVs. To hollow out the cylinder, use a boolean modifier on a second cylinder that you use to "cut" through the first one. There are lots of tutorials on using booleans in blender.
when you say to select the end vertices before you UV edit them and you say to press ctrl + to expand your selection, that's not working for me on Mac. what am I doing wrong?
Ctrl Numpad + and Ctrl Numpad -, which expands and contracts the selection in all directions. This is the Google result I got I don't know if it works on Mac as I don't have one.
At near 4:20 time stamp, this is explained. Basically, you want to go into vertex mode. Press A to select all vertices. Then merge by distance and all of the overlapping vertices should merge making the cylinder "water tight". Basically the edge of the original plane weren't connected is my guess. Hope this helps.
You have to rotate the empty 90 degrees on the X axis for the simple deform to work. 1:04 mark for when this happens in the video. If you don't rotate the empty simple deform doesn't work.

Worked perfectly for me. Nice tutorial.
Great tute! No messing about! Thank you very much!

Runningggg to Blender rn, how did you know I needed to learn this?!! Thank you!!!! 💜💜💜💜
Haha. Happy to help! Feel free to ask any questions. I will respond when I can.

It looks simple and great but I cant select 2 sides of center on cilinder... before UV
click to select, rotate camera with mouse, hold shift to select other side

Could you leave the ends open 5:01 ?

I have an issue where all my textures (no matter tree bark or bricks) they all look like stripes! I dont know what I'm doing wrong
doing the tube from 0 fixed my issue, the person im doing this for gave me an alredy made cylinder, for measurements

What is the time stamp of the part that isn't working?

My model has a split on one side.. Like the cylinder doesn't connect to itself
Ya i followed this exactly and doesnt work at all the plane only shows twist bend does not do anyhting
On my laptop, I’m stuck at the CTRL+, CTRL+ All that happens for me is the view expands, like zooming in.
I belive you're using a Mac then? Expand selection is something else on a Mac num ctrl + or something.
No sir, not a Mac, just a little Lenovo laptop
And I ‘accidentally’ figured out how to do it! Now to just teach myself to tile images!
@@bridgetguidry7257 How did you do it? I'm on a laptop too..
it does nothing adding the ismple deform the plane doesn ot bend the empty is not attached to the plane so its obsolete

ne fonctionne pas avec la dernière version👎
