Are hygrometers accurate?

- I use hygrometers to monitor air moisture inside my filament dry boxes for that hygroscopic 3D printer filament. But how accurate are they? The cheap ones can only measure down to about 10% humidity and have about 5% error margin above that.

Thanks for the vid
I noticed the same deviations with mines.
I have 3 different ones from a pack of 30 (same supplier).
I've experienced the same thing. Most are within a percent or two and then there's the outlier. I think I do the same thing you do-buy a lot and use the ones that are within the general agreed range. Sleeping hygrometers? Yep, I have a few of those too!
Good point! You can spot the outlier and offer it an early retirement plan.
Not really, they may all be calibrated within a range you don't care about, to make calibration cheaper. For example, hygrometers could be calibrated only for 35-70% humidity because air usually does not get drier than that, and you would find many identical wrong values.
You need a properly calibrated one. The statistical approach does not work if you apply it blindly as you suggested.
Yeah, they have about 5% accuracy :)
😅
I have inkbird, govee, thermoPro and sensorpush, but often have problems. Among them, I like inkbird's IBS-TH5, which is cute, smart and accurate, with an ink screen and weather display. A little more expensive, but very reassuring!
Mine have been terrible, same with temperature sensors from Amazon… there just no point unless they’re accurate IMO
They also degrade with time by design. Also if one of them got wet or something, well that one is going to have a bad time. Manufacturing faults happen as well.
Oh, that's good to know. I also heard about the mechanical precision ones that you're supposed to... dry them after a while? They start getting an offset or something like that.
Thank you for this video
I have some retangular ones and they work great within 3% of each other. I also have some round ones I bought recently. They are awful. They are 12-14% lower than the rectangular ones and there does not seem to be a way to adjust them.
No they’re always off a few % always calibrate 👍🏽
Are they waterproof? What happens if I submerge them in water?
They'll read 100% 🤣🤣
On a serious note, I don't think they're waterproof at all
So what would someone use to measure sub 10% humidity accurately?
Can u link where to buy it?
Sure, links are in the video description.
Bfdi leafy singing/humiditynya hanya 9%
where can i get that box?
Oh, that's one of my older dry box designs using an Ikea container. I never got to publish it.
@@MihaiDesigns do you happen to remember what container? Ive been looking for a truley sealed one for a while....
Great videos btw, wave pattern one blew my mind.
Cool 😎
